Hey brotha I was thinking about old military days and immediately thought of you. It's been a couple years since I first signed this but you never forget good friends and I've never forgotten the men I went into battle with. It seems like a lifetime since we used to laugh at your Spongebob pajamas and your "satellite" reception problems. I still have dozens of pictures of us in Germany and during our first tour in Iraq. One day I hope to get in touch with your family and give them to the ones who deserve to see what an amazing and courageous soldier and friend you were. You always made us laugh. Adam and I talk get together every so often and talk about you, mock and the rest of the guys. One day we will all see each other. Until then I know you're smiling down on all your family and friends. God bless you Eric.

Hey Little Brother, it's been 6 years now and the pain is still there. I think about you everyday and still can't believe that you're gone. We talk about the crazy things you used to do and laugh so hard with tears in our eyes. You were funny little brother and I miss hearing that laugh of yours. Today is so hard for us but together we will get through it. We are so proud of you and know that if you had to do it again knowing the consequences you would do it all over again. That's the person who you were. We miss you our brave Soldier and love you so much. We always pray for all the Soldiers away from their Families and wish for their safe return. Watch over our Family and those in War at this time.

It has been over 4 years and i have never forgotten the day you were taken away. Prior to learning of your death, i had only met you once, in Kuwait on our way in, you had lost your ID card and had asked me if i'd found it. We may have even been on the same patrols out of COP Steele together and i didn't even know it. The next time i would meet up with you, i was assigned as the investigating officer to look into the circumstances surrounding your death. At first i dreaded this duty and it really hit me hard once i realized that i knew you. During the investigation i came to know the Soldier adored by his subordinates, peers, and superiors. Each day became harder and harder, having to look into the eyes of those that were with you that day and recount what had happened, all of us trying not to cry. You and your platoon did it right that day my friend. I just wish i could have known you better in life. You would be proud to know that 1-18 IN calmed the streets in Ramadi and when it was time to head back to Schweinfurt, you would never have guessed we were fighting a war there. I hope i get the honor of meeting up with you on the other side brother. May God keep you and bless your family. Gone but never forgetten.

Eric,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get to this...I have thought long and hard about that day and what could've been done to change the events that lead up to your leaving us. I have only one conclusion that makes any sense and that is that your creator deemed it was time to bring you home. I will miss you and think of you often.

In Memory of Eric ~ (Debra Estep)

November 14, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Eric, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
CPL. ERIC G. PALACIOS-RIVERA

Two years are gone since you past away,
I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new,
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too,
I think of you in silence, I often speak your name.
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame,
Your memory is in my keepsake with which I’ll never part,
God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart.
No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.

I just found out about Eric a few weeks ago and have been overwhelmed with emotion. I had the privilege of knowing Eric since he was born. Our mothers shared a home in AC till he was around 3 1/2 yrs. old. That's when my family moved back to Reno NV. Eric and Jeff were the little brothers I didn't have. I missed Eric, Jeff and Tana very much. I feel fortunate that Eric and Tana (who was like a second mother to me) visited us approx 7 yrs. back. It was great to see Eric, who in my heart was like my first born, all grown up.

Eric, I still have a difficult time accepting that you are truly gone. Since you were a baby you did what you set out to do. You are the biggest hero I will ever know. Love you & you will always be in our hearts.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I served with Eric in Iraq during OIF II with C-co 2/2 Inf. He was a really good guy and I will miss him. I used to tease him cause he ordered some rims for a truck that he didn't even have yet. He'd say, "Yeah but I'm gonna get one when we get home and I won't have to find rims for it cause I'll already have them." He could always make me smile even when I didn't want to and for that I'll always love him. Rest in peace my friend.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go
