Michael Ledsome Obituary

Cpl. Michael Craig Ledsome Cpl. Craig Ledsome, 24 of Austin, Texas, tragically died in combat fighting for his family and country on November 25, 2006. For Craig, life was about having fun and putting a smile on everyone's face around him. He could find something to laugh about in every situation. His family meant everything to him but the true joys of his life were his wife Megan and 2 yr old son, Caelub. Being part of the Marine Corps was his dream and something he knew he had to do. His passions were the Texas Longhorns and golf. Craig Ledsome was born in Brownwood, Texas on December 4, 1981. He moved to Austin in 2000 where he ran the golf pro shop at the Balcones Country Club until he joined the Marine Corps in January, 2005. He leaves behind his wife and son, Megan and Caelub; his parents, Tammy and Kevin Eoff, Mike and Shawna Ledsome; brother, Brad; sister, Alex and several grandparents. Also, his extended family, Denise and Michael Taddeo from Austin, Bobby and Stephanie Smith from Dripping Springs; sisters-in-law Kathryn and Kim Futrell; several grandparents and close friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd. with services on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Memorial Park in Austin, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any Bank of America to the Ledsome Memorial Fund.

Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son’s sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. This week is a difficult one as we come upon the anniversary of Craig's passing. We hold Craig in our hearts every day, remembering him as a beautiful young man, son, amazing husband and wonderful father. Please take the time to offer prayers and be thankful for all our amazing service men and women as they sacrifice so much so that we can live with all the freedom and privileges in this country.

Craig, thanks for your unconditional love to Megan and giving us such an amazing grandson. You are in our hearts always.

I knew Craig back when I was in 8th, 9th, and 10th in Brownwood. he was a great friend and whenever times were bad in football or anywhere else and I wanted to quit he never let me. He always gave me inspiration to strive for better. I thank him everyday for that. Today i am a C-130 Flight Engineer in the Air Force and fly many army, marines, and airman into and out of Iraq and Afghanistan, but everytime I fly I dedicate my combat missions to Craig and thank him for being such a great person. Who knows where I'd be today without him. He's a great guy and I miss the hell out of him. R.I.P. Craig

As I sit and watch the rain and think about tomorrow, I vividly remember that day so many years ago when we as a country would change forever. I think about all of the flags flying and the prayers of a nation. I remember the patriotism and many religions coming together as a whole to pray for peace and understanding. Our prayers now turn to all of the families and friends who have lost someone through all of this. I was touched dramatically by someone very close to Craig and although I only spoke with her a few times, I hold those times close to my heart. I pray for her and her family each time I see her house or hear her or her precious son's name. The pain she endures is unfathomable. With all of this I hope we all understand the hero that Craig is and the brave incredibly strong woman his mother is. God bless the family with strength and continuous courage and some satisfaction in knowing Craig is appreciated. Thank you to all those lost. Thank you Craig for touching a moment of my life without ever having known you. My prayers continue.

I remember the small things about Michael Ledsome or as we called him at Balcones Country Club, Craig. He used to draw up golf tournament stats on big white poster boards and post them outside of the club house. I remember he was so precise with his calligraphy, taking every little turn of the marker with pre-meditated attention to detail. After he finished one of these signs, he'd show it to us cart boys with a great pride. To me, he'd show a playful smirk implying 'beat that!'. I always thought to myself, I wish I could write like that but it wasn't writing, it was drawing these perfect letters..It was real art. Along with those signs, he dedicated himself to whatever it was he enjoyed doing. I never heard him complain about his swing or throw away a club at the driving range, he was persistent in his goals and always striving to do his best. I will always remember Craig as a big kid, always playing around, full of energy, and sharp as a nail. May his memory shine on through the lives of everyone who knew him until we all see him again in heaven.

My husband (also a former Marine) and I are in the Army. We both had done a few tours in Iraq. Now, we are approaching Afghanistan at the end of this year. We have two young boys, whom we talk to about Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, & Airmen; who gave their "Lives" and how we need to keep their memories alive. Our children believe that military service members are "Super Hero". To the family of Cpl. Michael C. Ledsome, you will always be in our familys prays.

Hi, My name is Ed, I was the interpreter for the battalion commander that CP. Ledsome served with, cp. Ledsome was the personal guard and the homvee driver for the battalion commander, we went together on many missions in Habbania and Ramadi, I was there the day he sacrificed himself for our country, and I miss him so much, he always know how to make us smile and laugh even when we were under fire, he always like to impersonate and sing like Elvis Presley, and he loved his wife and son so much he was often talk about them and carry their picture everywhere we go, there is much can be said about cp. Ledsome but words are helpless to describe his integrity, sacrifice and services to his Jump Platoon, the 3/2 battalion and to his country.

My name is Brad Ledsome, the brother of this great man we all new as a great friend. There are many things that I could say about him, but what i think everybody that met him can relate to was his passion to make those around him feel better about themselves. I can not look back at any time, (and i grew up with him) that he ever talked down to somebody. He did not put himself above or ever try to prove that he was better than anybody. He looked at everybody the same, all equal and his impact made others want to match his passion. I know I did! Craig, when i see you again, i will thank you for everything that you have tought me, and will always be thankfull that i was blessed with a friend, brother and a role model to always have in my life. I love you with all that i have, and will continue to try and make you proud. All my love

Michael,
Happy Birthday in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

In Memory of Michael Craig ~ (Debra Estep)

November 25, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Craig, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Cpl Michael C Ledsome. I also I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.

You may be aware of this, but I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

"Craiger"...I hadn't seen your family lately, but randomly spent today, (Memorial Day) on the lake with Nick. It was a day celebrating you...your smile...the memories...and more laughs that you can only imagine that you brought to us. Story after story...and of course then tears. We were only kids when you taught me that I was strong enough to overcome anything. Starting with something as simple as keeping my head down to hit a golfball! Then just overcome everyday things..To fight every battle with all of my heart. There is no doubt that you've left an impact on so many people that will last a lifetime. No matter how old we were, how serious a situation was, or even if it was just the hilarious memories of things like knocking on doors with Kirby in a scream costume!!!!!...you put your complete heart into everything that you did. And I live each day remember the things you always told me, the way you pushed me to keep going...and most of all, to always smile. We love you Craiger. And you were with us today in many ways! - Kel

All of the lovely, kind and sincere thoughts expressed on these pages have been a tremendous comfort to us all. Of course, nothing and no one will ever be able to fill that space in our lives that Craig owned, but he will forever live laughing, loving, caring in our hearts...forever young and beautiful. Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our minds we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the few, the proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Ledsome family,
I cannot imagine your grief. I loved Craig and have not been able to shake the trajedy. I know that the Bible tells us that all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord. I know that we may not ever understand while we are here on Earth but that God has a reason for all things. I have kept all of you in my prayers. I am so sorry for your loss. Craig was such a special kid. I am so sad. I will continue to pray for all of you!

Dear Ledsome Family,
Even though we have never met, I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's fiancee was killed by a IED in Iraq on 10/3/05. It is my prayer that you will feel God holding you as close to His heart as He has held my family this past year. May you know God's comfort and peace as you travel down this difficult road.

Dear Craig’s family: Please accept my sincere condolences in your loss. I had the good fortune of getting to get to know Craig very well as the general manager of Balcones Country Club during Craig’s tenure there. His smile and outgoing personality was contagious to our members and staff alike. Every person who came in contact with him held him in the highest regard. Craig always went out of his way and beyond the call of duty. I vividly remember the time when Craig encountered a golfer who had a broken down golf cart due to a tire problem. It was after hours and Craig was making his final pass to close down the facility. Once he found this individual, Craig took ownership of the problem and helped to take the tire off of the cart. He then proceeded to drive to our maintenance facility where he fixed the tire and then helped the owner install it back onto his cart. The whole process kept him nearly 2 hours after his scheduled shift, but that was just the kind of person that Craig was, always willing to help others. Craig was a talented golfer and certainly had a career in the golf business as we had enrolled him in the PGA apprentice program. However, I remember the day that Craig sat down in my office and told me that although he loved the game of golf very much, that he really wanted to be a Marine and wanted to pursue that dream. As a veteran myself, I could appreciate his vision and commitment to serve our country. Therefore, I fully understood and supported his decision and have the utmost respect for his service and ultimate sacrifice. Megan, I also remember vividly how Craig’s eyes would light up any time that he talked about you and how excited that he was that he was going to be a dad. Those are wonderful memories that I will always treasure. Please know that although I no longer live in Texas, I will always be available to your family to help out in any way that I can. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you ever need me. In closing, I can’t imagine the pain that you are all feeling at this time. My only hope is that you can take some solace in knowing that others are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace Craig!

Sweet Craig,
I will always remember you as that adorable little boy eating bowls and bowls full of cereal at our home. You and Bradley were always so fun to have around. Even though you were 2 years apart, you were more like twins. Bradley I can only imagine how much you are suffering. Mike, I consider you one of my true friends. You are one of those very few friends you have in your life where you can go years without speaking, but know that under all circumstances the other person would be there for you. I have not met Shawna, but my parents say she is such a wonderful lady and are so pleased you have her in your life. I have kept you Mike, Bradley, Shawna and Tammy and Craig's wife and child in my prayers all week and will continue to do so. I regret that I was unable to attend the services in Brownwood, but will be at the viewing and service in Austin. My sympathies to your family. Craig, played a part in so many peoples lives. While I didn't know Michael, I wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Last night I had the most humbling experience and I wanted to share it with you.

I was on a flight from Atlanta to Austin and Michael was on that flight with us. The passengers on that flight knew that Michael was with us and when the announcement was made on the plane the passengers all paused to honor Michael. It was incredible to see the respect and honor that is bestowed on our military men and women. I am sorry for your loss, but I know that you are supported through the prayers of the people like the ones on that plane last night.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
