Keith Fiscus Obituary

U.S. Army Sgt. Keith E. 'Fisc' Fiscus, 26

TOWNSEND - U.S. Army Sgt. Keith E. "Fisc" Fiscus of Townsend died tragically while serving his country Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, when his humvee exploded after passing over an IED bomb in Taji, Iraq. He was 26.

Mr. Fiscus was born Aug. 16, 1980, in Glendale, Calif., the second oldest child of Darrell and Pamela (Ferrise) Fiscus.

At the age of 18, he along with his family, moved to Delaware. He graduated from Glasgow High School in 1998 and worked at Genuardis in People's Plaza, now known as Safeway, in the produce department before working as a customer service representative for Discover Card. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing and spending time with his friends. He was always the life of any party.

Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Mr. Fiscus enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2002. He served his first tour in Iraq in 2004. In 2005 he re-enlisted and in August 2006 he began his second tour in Iraq, where he was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He was an E5 and soon to be promoted to an E6. He was expected to return to the states in February 2007. He was a brave solider and a hero who will be forever missed by many.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dena and Chuck Archer of Smyrna and Korrie Fiscus of Townsend; a brother, Jordan Fiscus of Townsend; his paternal grandfather, Richard E. Fiscus of Fredonia, Kan.; his paternal grandmother, Lore Fiscus of Fredonia; a niece, Ashlee Fiscus; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many dear friends and soldiers of the U.S. Army.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Middletown Volunteer Hose Co., 27 W. Green St. where a service of remembrance will be conducted by family and friends at 8.

Burial with full military honors will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Keith, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I would have felt exactly as you did, although we are suppossed to support and do support the services and people who protect us, seeing our children and people we love putting their life in danger is not something we want. My son used to dress up army.... but the has outgrown that - thank goodness but the other choices he tends to make are dangerous also... God bless and help you... and be proud of your son!

The loss of a loved one is never easy! I have two sons in the military, one who lost his arm in Afghanistan, and one who is currently serving in Iraq. I served with the Wolfhounds of the 25th Infantry. I myself have lost good friends in the battle. They were heros, but most of all they were loved. Never let the good memories fade. God bless you!

Keith,

You were like my big brother... You got me through a lot of days and nights in training and in Iraq. I thank you for being a great friend, leader, and brother. You will never know how much you truly meant to me. I miss and love u and I am always thinking of you.

Fiscus family,

I love you guys as if you were my family. Pam it has truly been an honor getting you know you. I wish it could have been under different circumstances. You are like a second mother to me. I know there is nothing that I can say or do to take away that empty feeling but I will always be here for you and your family no matter what like you have done for me.

Love always

Please accept our deepest sympathies.
Joseph our son was friends with Keith and just learned of his death. Joe retrieved photos he has of Keith, himself and other members from the 1/27th during some of their training missions in Hawaii.
The Hanrahan family will keep Keith in our thoughts, as our son tells the stories of there escapades together.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I remember all the days before that fateful day. You always made us laugh when we needed it. that morning I wanted so much to have a picture of you, me and Murray. the call came in and we were off like a rocket. Little did we know that that would be our last group hug. I love you like a brother and I wish I could have seen you grow older. It happened so fast, my first thought was to get to you and Murray. I saw you when I exited my vehicle, but I couldn't see Murr. I saw you first, and ran to you. I called the medic and we started to go to work. It hurts me still to talk about this. I lost a good friend and brother that day. I have the memories of you, I won't let myself forget you. I love you bro. I will see you one day again. we can ick up where we left off.

Later bro.

I miss you so much, Keith. I'm doing everything I can to make sure your family is taken care of in the way that you would like them to be. I know you would have done the same for me. Your legacy will live on in all of us, and I know you are watching. I don't look at it like I lost a friend, but rather like I gained the best damn Guardian Angel out there.

I love you,

me.

You are missed every single day and I will always regret losing contact with you. You grew up to be a fine young man Keith. “Soldier”
To Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

My thoughts and prayers have been with the Fiscus family since word of Sgt. Keith E. Fiscus' death was made public. I continue to pray for them and for all of the families that have lost someone to this ongoing war. I know the pain will eventually dull but the scars will be a constant reminder of their loss. I am so sorry for their loss, but I am ever so grateful for Sgt. Keith E. Fiscus' courage and bravery. He lost his life doing what he loved and believed in. He exemplifies true courage and bravery by giving the ultimate sacrifice in honor of his country.....his life. I pray that in due time his family may feel peace in knowing what a true hero Keith really was. I did not know Keith, but my heart broke for his family whom I did not know. I had just left the Townsend Post Office after mailing 51 boxes filled with supplies to a Lt.Col I also did not know, when I heard of a soldiers death from my own hometown. May God bless Sgt. Keith's family and all of the families of our men and women who have lost their lives serving our great country, and let us not forget those who are still serving.
