Timothy Weiner Obituary

January 7, 2007 Air Force Tech. Sgt. Timothy Ronn Weiner, 35, was killed January 7 while disarming explosives in Baghdad. Born in Rochester, he was an 18-year Air Force veteran on his second tour of duty in Iraq. An expert in explosive ordnance disposal, Tim responded to nearly 200 calls involving improvised explosive devices and is credited with saving hundreds of lives. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Debbie, and son, John, of Utah; his father, Ken (Kathie) Weiner of Perinton; his mother, Marcia (Pierre) Fenster of Florida; a sister, Karyn (Steven) Plante of Fayetteville; three brothers, Robert (Tammy), Eric and Kevin (Barbara); niece, Melissa of Syracuse; nephew, Aaron of Fayetteville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial was held in Iraq, where he was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Interment, with full military honors, was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado. While in Iraq, Tim was touched by children whose faces carried the scars of war wounds. A fund has been established in his memory to help children with facial deformities. Contributions can be made to the Sgt. Timothy Weiner Fund, Upstate Foundation, 750 East Adams St., Syr., NY 13210.
