I have visited this site a for a few years now and have never made an entry because I did not know what to say. I think about him often and always stop by to say a prayer when I am at the cemetery. I served with him when I was the senior scout in 3/8 Cav at Fort Hood. I have very fond memories of discussing missions with him. He would always offer an opinion of how we could accomplish the mission more efficiently. This would at times become heated which in the end would make us both laugh. I am a Packers fan and remember how much I hated coming to work after the Cowboys beat us. To this day I will never say anything to a Cowboys fan even if we win because I am sure he is somewhere near waiting to pounce when we lose. It was truly an honor to serve with someone as passionate about being as scout as he was. He will never be forgotten!

Thinking of you so much lately. Rafe reminds me of you. I look at him and I see you. He talks about following in your footsteps constantly. You would be so proud of your nephew, he is a soldier even at 10. You left such an impression on him. You are truly his hero!! I love you.

SFC Mosterio (Moss man) was one if not the best platoon sergeant a soldier could ask for. Blackhawk troop truely lost a good soldier and a friend. SFC Allen Mosterio will be dearly missed by all of his friends, soldiers, and most importantly his family. It was my honor to serve as a scout under him and learned everything I know about being a scout from one of the best cavalrymen that ever lived. I will rejoin my brother in arms one day at fiddlers green. RIP brother for you have earned your place in heaven.

I want to thank this young man for the sacrifice he made. Also tell his family how sorry I am for their loss. Words are sometimes small consolation for the loss you have suffered as a family. I also have a son in the military-Army National
Guard. He was in Desert Storm in 1991. May God Bless every one of you. This is a Horrible price to pay for freedom-it has never come cheap. Again, thank you!

I served 2 Iraq tours under Mosteiro. One as my section Sgt, and the other as my platoon Sgt. He was a good friend and fellow Texan. We talked hours about the Mavs and the Cowboys. I can't say enough about him as a soldier and a leader. He really cared for his guys. I will always miss and remember SFC Mos
Allen, Along with a few other US soldiers at a Project Partnership event with the German Army. Allen was enthusiastic about partnership activities because they gave him a chance to get out and "do the things he joined the Army for."

I just heard of SFC Mosteiro's death from a mutual friend. I am deeply saddened and wish to express my deepest sympathy to his wife, Svetlana, his son and the rest of his family. I knew Allen when he was a Private in Schweinfurt, Germany in the eighties. I was one of his NCOs and I have to say he impressed me from the beginning. He obviously loved the Army. He was concientious about his job as a Scout, was quick to learn and always showed a deep curiosity that was hard to satisfy, although (goodness knows) I tried. He was truly the kind of soldier every leader wants to have in their units. Unfortunately, I lost track of him when he left the unit. I am very glad he stayed in. I am not at all surprised to read messages praising his skill, professionalism and leadership. Allen was a great Soldier when I knew him. I miss knowing him as an even greater leader.
May he rest in piece.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Mosteiro is one of these professionals who train our 1st Cav soldiers. We are so thankful for such leaders to train our sons. thank you,

It pains me to learn that a good soldier whom I had the opportunity to know and work with in Blackhawk Troop has been killed. I left the unit in November of 2003 but still remember SFC Mosteiro as a good scout and an even greater person. It is heartening to see in these pages that he is still alive in the memories of those who knew him best. Please know that my prayers are with SFC Allen Mosterio today, this Memorial Day.

I wish to offer my condolences to all who knew SFC Mosteiro. He was a good man who will always be remembered. My husband and I got lucky for knowing him because with my health problems SFC Mosteiro put him on rear detachment and the result of this is that I am now 4 and a half months pregnant so I guess in a way SFC Mosteiro had a hand in it. So wherever you are SFC Mosteiro thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I just want to tell you that I purchased a remembrance bracelet and ordered a random name selected from one of the many military heroes to die in this war. My bracelet came in today and the name read:
SFC WM. Allen Mosteiro
14 FEB 2007 Taji, IRAQ
ARMY 1st CAV
My twin Brother is off to Iraq as a Platoon Leader for a MP company fighting under the 1st Cav Unit Badge.
I just wanted to say that for as long as this war exists I will wear this bracelet in honor of SFC Mosteiro and and all of our troops.

Allen was and still is my friend. I just learned of his death today (18 Mar 07) and it was devastating to me. Allen was the kind of guy if you needed help then he is your man.
I can to this day see the smile on his face and his everything is going to be alright attitude. If you felt a little under the weather hang around Allen and he would have you laughing about something.
Allen was a soldiers NCO. When the soldier deserved to be praised he received it. When he deserved to be checked and put back into his place well, he did that to. Outstanding NCO that I am very proud to call my friend.
A Non-commissioned Officer that loved God, Country and Family. I will miss my friend.
A soldier is never forgotten until we stop remembering and I will always remember Allen. Svetlana, God Bless you and your family, Take care, Be safe!
Allen, my friend, I say to you: I do what I love and I love what I do....Scout faithful 100, 100, 100%, Allen, heard me say this everyday sometimes twice a day going out the gate and he knows what I mean. I will see you on the high ground my friend.

I guess you never know when you'll say your last goodbye. There is a part of every person, that assumes there will always be another meeting. My farewell to Allen was little more than a handshake and "see ya when I see ya". I surely wish I had the chance to tell him how much he taught me about working, teaching, and living. Allen was a tribute to his profession, and someone his subordinates might hope to become with enough hard work and dedication. Al was a great mentor and friend, he will be forever missed.

Svetlana & Family~
SSG Jason Evey was my boyfriend and served with SFC Mosteiro in 1-7 a few years ago. He reenlisted a couple of years ago and was in 4th ID. Jason was also killed in Iraq, last July.
I had only met Allen a couple of times, the most recent last August after Jason's memorial service at Ft Hood. A big group of us got together at Bennigan's to remember Jason. I remember Allen talking to me about what a great soldier Jason was and how the Army should have more soldiers like him. Well the same goes for Allen. I just know what Jason and a few other soldiers thought about him and they had great admiration for him as well.
My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.
SFC Mosteiro thank you for your service and bravery, you will never be forgotten.

Dear Pat,
This is Lisa (Bryant) Thompson. You and I went to nursing school together at All Saints. I am not sure if you remember me or not. I learned of the sacrifice your son Allen made, and my heart aches for you. There is no way I can know your pain, not having walked in your shoes...I can only imagine. I just wanted to say thank you for raising an honorable man. My prayers will continue for you...that God will give you the strength and courage to go on as Allen would want...for you to live a safe, happy life in a free country...a country free because of men, such as your Allen. My son Jared, is also serving in our military for our country in the middle east at this time. Speaking to my son about why he does what he does, I can know this...Allen went to serve and not to be served...Allen gave himself as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). I know you are so very proud of him and I know you will serve his memory well...and I know, your heart aches. I'm sorry.
To the rest of the Mosteiro family...I do not have to know you, to know how deeply saddened that you are, and how you will miss Allen. I pray that God will bind your wounds and give you strength and courage to go on and to honor Allen as you do.
My mortal words can not express my sorrow for you all at this time, nor my gratitude for the sacrifice of Allen Mosteiro.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Allen, I am totally in awe of what you have done for your family and for your country. Your service in the Army and attention to detail when preparing your men has saved countless American lives and provided us with freedoms we blindly live under today. As your Brother-in -law, I will miss our family gathering chats/discussions about everything from your service to sports. You always had an opinion - and darn it - most of the time it was right - whether we wanted to admit it or not. ON 27-Feb, 2007, we were forced to make the decision to send our dog Miss Maddie to you to keep you company (according to our daughter) and we hope you enjoy this gift. In this country of characters - it was truly an honor to be related to a MAN OF CHARACTER! As I sit here writing and as Stephanie and I discuss your memory (which we do often!) - I can picture you sitting down with St. Peter discussing - perhaps - a better or more efficient way of processing all of the incoming souls - and being correct in your assessment!
As a soldier, Allen, you freely and of your own accord made the decision to fight for our freedom and to protect this great country. You gave your life and will forever be remembered as a hero to family, friends, your men, your superiors, and a grateful nation. Please know that your sacrifice was not in vane. Many of us saw you as a hero while you were still here with us (Stephanie and I among many others in the family) - the rest of the nation is now clued in to what an amazing man, soldier, son, husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, friend, and leader you were. I will miss you, I thank you, and I look forward to seeing you again when it is my turn to join you.
Svieta, my heart goes out to you as you mourn the loss of your husband and best friend. Seeing the two of you together was to see what love really looks like. I am in awe of your courage as a survivor and proud of you for the way in which you honor Allen's memory. I am so thankful that you are a part of our family and hope that your qualities will be viewed and learned by our children.
Bill and Pat, I am amazed by your strength and courage at this most difficult time. Losing a child must be a tremendously difficult thing. The one true blessing is knowing that he did it his way and is now resting comfortably in his heaven. And I am so proud to be a member of this family.
To the rest of the family, I am very sorry for your loss. Allen was taken from us far too soon. However, I am certain that he will be our guardian angel in death as he was in life. As our daughter (Gabi) said - he will live forever in our hearts.
Thank you Allen and God Bless You!

Oh Allen, you have gone too soon. I still remember the little boy you were. Whenever I see one particular beer and one particular cereal, it makes me smile. I'm grateful that you found Svetlana. I know she made you happier than you had ever been in your life. I learned so much about you at the funeral and it was said you were a great soldier and warrior. I cannot express how empty my heart feels after the loss of my brother, Allen. I am so proud of him and what he stood for. He was a corageous man of honor and dignity. He would not have wanted to die in any other way. He loved his country and served with pride!! I love him dearly and miss him deeply.
To his men, he always said you were the best! We are so thankful for all you did for him and all you have chosen to do for our country. I am so proud of all of you.
Allen loved his wife, Svetlana deeply. They were truly blessed to find each other. Allen would be so proud of how brave she has been throughout this tragedy. We love you Svieta!!
I love you Allen! You did a good job. I miss you.

To the family of Allen Mosteiro,
I got to Blackhawk Troop right at the beginning of the Cav's first rotation to Iraq, for OIF II. The platoon I was to take was Joe Adcock and Allen Mosteiro's "sister" Tank Platoon. We worked closely together during the deployment, usually executing missions in a half-tank and half-scout "motley platoon." The men of 3d Platoon, whom Allen had a large role in molding, were always the epitome of self-starting, mature Soldiers... Scouts. Upon redeployment, I learned that the Scout Platoon I was to take was, in fact, 3d; led by none other than SFC Mosteiro, following SFC Adcock's promotion and departure. As my Platoon Sergeant, Allen was a great mentor who began to teach me what it meant to be a Cavalry Scout. His knowledge and maturity was unmatched. He was, in fact, stubborn at times, but would always have your back in the end. Whether they would admit it or not, no one could motivate a young Trooper like Allen. Allen was a different breed of man; one whose lessons and memories will never be forgotten. Garryowen, Seventh First!

The emptiness we feel as Allen's parents can not be expressed. We will miss our son with every breath and each moment of every day. His memories linger in each sound, sight, and thought, yet the pain remains. Allen was a soldier giving everything at the end.
Our hearts are filled with peace knowing his wife, Svetlana, gave to him a time of peace and happiness in the precious time they shared.
We also wish to thank the men in his platoon for standing with him and holding him in their arms until the end, as we were not there. We know they lost a brother, father, friend, mentor, and advisor. Please know he is standing beside you whispering in your ears continuing to direct you and keeping you focused on the course. He always said "My men are the best!" You know he was seldom wrong.
God bless you and keep you.

I would not have wanted to been under any body elses command than Sgt. Mosteiro's. He was like a father figure to all the young soldiers such as myself, Jimmy, Lil Mo, Croft, all of us Joes. He was always getting after us, correcting us, but he also watched over us. We will all miss him greatly and we could not have asked for a better leader and mentor than Sgt. Mos.

This is the speech I gave at his funeral this morning:
I first crossed paths with Allen back in the beginning of 2001 in Korea. We were actually in the same troop but didn’t know much of each other because of how busy things were back then. I met him and his future bride, in the streets outside CP Gary Owen one day. I remember how he sort of had this bounce in his step as if he was floating on air. You could tell he was in love way back then and Svetlana we all thank you for making him so happy.
About a year later, early 2002, I would be reassigned to 1-7 Cav here at Fort Hood. I was pretty excited with the prospect of taking over a platoon, I said all the right things and finagled a job out of B Troop with 1SG Carlin. Lo and behold, who was the senior scout but SSG Allen Mosteiro. I think we were pretty familiar with one another but we all know how that stuff works and sort of felt each other out. The 1SG said that the platoon was strong but I wasn’t having it, I was going to come in fired up and as we say “handle business”. It started with a good hard P.T. run that first morning and I tell you I “broke it off “in them guys, especially the young ones because they are always the easiest to break. However that was the first time I learned about what we call “Old Man Strength”. It is an unbreakable kind of strength that comes from experience and wisdom and Allen had plenty of it. No matter how hard I ran and pushed that platoon, there was always 1 NCO there with me, firing up the rest of them. This would prove to be common throughout our tenure together. I could always rely on Mos. NO MATTER WHAT. He was the ultimate right hand man and I would never consider doing something without him or at least his input. This as well proved to be impossible anyways. Allen was going to let me know what was up. He was invaluably stubborn. You knew that if he was adamant about something then it was probably right. He kept me out of trouble on a number of occasions but he made up for it by being about as politically incorrect as one could be. I look back fondly on the times I had to patch things up with a sister platoon or fellow NCO because he would tear up some tanker for something. He loved his soldiers and I will always remember that quality about him. He treated soldiers like family and took care of them like no other. Going out of his way for soldier issues was second nature to him and he always had an answer for every problem. I have no doubt that those he left behind are equipped with the tools they need to make it back in one piece.
I spent 3 very good years serving with Allen, 1 in Iraq. The years leading up to OIF II were good times. With SSG Mosteiro leading the way, Blackhawk Blue truly did lead the way. He loved to be in the action and if there were just 1 or 2 CFV left in the fight then you could be assured that he was one of them. His experience and leadership were invaluable to me as I grew up in the Platoon Sergeant position. I was glad to have him with me as we deployed, he sort of had this experienced calm about him that kept me sane. There was no telling how many attacks were thwarted because of his steely eyed glare and weapon at the ready on top of his CFV. It used to crack me up but I knew he wasn’t messing around. I felt secure going out with him, a comfort knowing that I was with someone who would take care of me if it was needed.
Allen was a Dallas sports fan indeed and that is certainly how I will remember him. I will remember many a Monday morning conversation during football season. He always seemed to know what exactly was wrong with the Cowboys. I am glad he was in the field when the Mavericks imploded in the playoffs, it certainly would have broken his heart to witness it.
I will never forget him and I don’t want to. I will carry thoughts of Allen with me forever. Svetlana, it will not be easy but I am sure Allen would want you to carry on and life a full and happy life. He only wanted the best for you and it was apparent the he loved you so much. To Mr. and Mrs. Mosteiro, thank you for giving us all such an inspiration. His value to the world and positive affect on so many lives will never be measured. To little Alex, hold your head up. Your Dad died for his country, not something to be taken lightly. He went the most honorable way we know how, in the line of duty in a far away country fighting to bring peace where there was none. As you grow into a man and ever wonder about your dad, look me up. I will tell you some stories about one of the finest soldiers that it was a privilege for me to call friend.

I truly wish I had the words to say that might ease your pain.I am a soldier, the father of a soldier, and a friend of your soldier.I have thought about what to say for 9 long days.I thought about the time with SFC Mosteiro in OIF2,Fort Hood, and OIF06-08.My heart aches as a father, friend, and comrade.I can assure you that he was a stubborn, hard,"old school" soldier.I can also assure you he was a true leader of men, respected, admired and loved by his fellow soldiers.I can not take away your pain but I can pray that God will reach down and touch your aching heart and take away the sorrow.I thought long and hard and fought with my own emotions.I finally realized that Earths loss is Heavens gain.May God bless your family at this most difficult of times.Your son, husband and my friend will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

To the Mosteiro family I wish to express my condolence for your loss. SFC Mosteiro was a great leader, mentor and friend to his soldiers, peers and superiors. He was my friend and I will miss him greatly. Allen would tell me all the time, that it was all in a days work the things that we as soldiers do. I will tell you that Allen loved his job and he loved his soldiers, if he were here today he would tell me it was all in a days work. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I had the priviledge to serve as SFC Mosteiro's 1SG for Nine months and i will miss those talks. He is on the high ground now in overwatch of all his soldiers.

SFC Moss was a great leader but most importantly a great friend. I wouldn't want to serve in a platoon with a different platoon sgt. He had opened his arms when I first met him on Jan. 17 2005. He will never be forgotten.

We never truly know the sacrifice of a soldier until one close to us is gone. I experienced the loss of a wonderful young soldier on January 9th of this year. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Sgt. Mosteiro at this time of loss. His service to our country is an awesome and admirable commitment, and the price he paid will never be forgotten. Thank you, Allen, and all other soldiers both in heaven and on earth.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Sgt Mos was a true soldier. The type that you knew you could go to for answers. You might not like what he had to say, but that's because he always gave it to you straight. Having served with him for the better part of 4 years, I know he was surely a great platoon daddy. The United States Army will miss this man.
To the rest of my bros in 3rd. Stay strong. Never have I wanted to be beside you all more. Blummy, Dennybo, Hicks, I know this is hard. Stay strong and focused, and remember that your soldiers need you.
