Ryan, I've been thinking about you lately and our last conversation (wow I feel old, it was through MySpace!!) I am so thankful for your words of wisdom and proud to call you a friend. Although we never hung out, outside of classes in high school, the impact you had on me through our conversations after graduation is still something I hold dearly. I know you were with me through basic training, pushing me further than I thought possible. You were with me on my deployments giving me strength. You are missed everyday. Thank you for all the smiles.

Then all of a sudden this beautiful rainbow appeared and Wow! - I knew you guys were sending us a message of love. Thinking of you. Trudy & Jerry Duffman

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.

A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;

Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,

But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;

The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,

Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;

All the way to the end of the
sky.

That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,

So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;

Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at

Dear Ryan,
Just thinking of you and our fun times growing up together. Even though we are only 21 now, it feels like so much has changed in the world. I know you are looking down on us and probably laughing to yourself whenever we mess up, but I like to think maybe you are someone's guardian angel too. You are missed Ryan, and I'll never forget you or the sacrifice you made for our country. I am forever grateful.

Dear family of Pfc. Ryan C. Garbs,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Dear Ryan~Jerry and I met your Mother and Father at the Vietnam Wall display in Troy, IL last Friday night. The ceremony for all of the fallen commrades was very meaningful but sad. Your Mother and I sat with arms around each other as the ceremony unfolded. We proudly stood to represent you and Scott and all of the other men, lost on your helicopter that night in Afghanistan, when they asked if there were any "Gold Star Mothers" in the group. There are new displays traveling with the Vietnam Wall and your name and Scott's as well as the rest of the crew from your flight are on display. Everywhere the wall travels you all will be there reminding all Americans of your heroic efforts to eradicate terrorism and keep American a free country for all of us to enjoy. We will never forget what you did for us and we will cherish your memory for the rest of our lives. Your Mother and Father are doing good. They miss you terribly, but know that you are in good hands.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Ryan-I met you the night of your visitation at the funeral home. It was my distinct pleasure to stand in line for almost two hours to give your Mother a hug and hand her the Memorial folder from my stepson TSgt Scott Duffman, USAF Pararescueman, who was in charge of the mission on your helicopter the night it crashed. To tell your Mother I knew her pain as we had just returned from Pope AFB, NC for Scott's beautiful but sad Memorial Service. I know you and Scott and the rest of the men who gave their lives that night in February are all together now. How can we thank you enough for what you gave to America--your lives, so that the rest of us could live any way we choose--my husband and I will call your Mother and Father and invite them to dinner soon. Just want to let them adjust to the loss they have experienced before we get together. What a way to make new friends. Ryan, tell Scott that his baby girl is growing like a weed with sunshine and water. She looks just like him. We miss him and your family and friends miss you. Thank you again for giving your life for all of us. Trudy Duffman, Shiloh, IL

Lest we forget that the job of a Ranger is unforgiving. Those in harms way are there because no other man will go. A Ranger’s job is that much more difficult and the loss of a Ranger is costly. Costly to family, friends and most of all to the rest of those crying babies that don’t realize that their freedom is what these Rangers are dieing for. I’m heartsick and by God I can’t wait till the day I have the opportunity to shake every one of those Rangers that are lost hands'.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Ryan is a hero and inspiration to all of us. I had the honor of standing in the flag line with my fellow Patriot Guard Riders. I was impressed with the members of his unit who were also there to honor Ryan. I will always think of Ryan and all of the brave soldiers who defend our freedom.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

to the Garbs family,
Our family sends love and heartfelt sympathy in your loss. I know your pride for your son is as strong as the pride he shared with those who wear the 3rd Batt scroll on their shoulders.
Our son was in HHC 3rd Batt, 1999-2001. He was called back in 2005, to the 28th ID,and was killed in Husayba, Iraq, on 10 Nov 05.
