I was telling a fellow Iraq veteran about Jason recently.... it´s been so many years now.... I just wanted to post this , and let the family know that we still remember him, we still talk about him, and in that way he is still here.

Our family attended church with Jason and Emily in Lakewood, WA. My husband has served 29 years with 4 deployments, so this is coming from an experienced Army wife. Jason was an amazing, Godly young man and my heart still hurts when I think about his sacrifice. I was honored to attend his memorial at Ft. Lewis and hug Emily at the conclusion of the service. I know Jason is with his Savior and I also know that he touched the lives of many through his military service and his service to God. I pray God continues to comfort his family in his absence and they know Jason will always be remembered!

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Harkins Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jason R. Harkins US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

To the Family of Sgt. Jason Harkins,

You don't know me and will probably never meet me, but my dad works with Bob. He knew I was participating in an event called Carry the Load in Dallas Texas on Memorial Day, 2014. My dad spoke to Bob about how he had 2 sons in the Army and a daughter in the Navy (me.) When my dad found out that Bob was the father of a soldier who died in Iraq he asked if I would be willing to carry his memory in this event.

I said yes immediately, and I hope the family knows I will carry him with honor and respect. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you, and wish them all the best.

My Name is Sgt. Brett Moore, Jason was not only my soldier for his first deployment to Iraq, but also one of my closest friends. Jason was an amazing man, and he always made me laugh even in the worst situations. Over these last few years I often look up knowing he has that crazy grin smiling down just laughing at whatever dumb thing it is I'm doing. He will always be my brother and I will make sure my children learn about this brave man who gave his life to make this world a better place. I love you Jason, we all miss you!

I was honored to be one of Jason's teachers. As I look over his life and his great sacrifice, I wonder which of us did more teaching! He was special as an 8th grader...far more serious about life than many.

I hold special memories of our many talks together. He touched me in his life and in his death. I am blessed to have been a little part of his time with us!
God blessed me with him, and I know he has a SPECIAL place in heaven!

Hey Jay, this is "sweetie." I just wanted to come by and tell you first of all "thank you" and second that i love and miss you very much. there's not a day that goes by that i don't look at your picture on the wall or look at my son (you're his namesake), and think, if i could've just hugged you one more time and told you how much your life has influenced mine and that you were and always will be, my hero. The hardest day of my life was seeing our mother fall to the ground and hearing the heartbroken wails when we found out you had fallen. many days i go back to the day at the airport and seeing your casket....just waiting for you to walk off of it. but i rest with the fact that ill see you again brother. I love you jay....

I knew this solider, Sgt Jason Robert Harkins. His family shared our family and we shared theirs. I held him in my arms when he was just a funny, skinny, akward little red head, with glasses, waiting to grow into his feet and front teeth. He grew and grew and Jason was still famous for his skinny pale white legs. When he was well over 6 ft tall I had the luxury of being held in his arms as he towered over me, telling me not to worry about him "over there". For all of you out there who didnt know Jason, this young man was born to be a solider. He became is own man. He stood taller and prouder than he ever did before. His heart wasnt filled with all the worlds crap that we accept today, his was ready to do a job very few wanted. If you are looking for something to be proud of, pick a solider, any soldier. Look them right in the eye, stick out your hand and say thank you. And if you have the guts, HUG THEM.These are young kids, fighting like animals over there and for what, I honestly dont know, but as long as our soliders understand, be dam greatful. None of us is perfect, but this young man thought enough of us to die trying.
I had the luxury of loving this kid and the gift of love when holding his mother as she laid her son to rest.
To all mother out there who has lost there children, my condolences and respect for the price you have all paid. God will have mercy on you.

Jason was my cousin but he was like a brother to me.There are no words to explain how great a man he was and how great his spirit still is!! May his spirit live on in all of us and with his fellow soldiers.

My heart grieves with the Harkins family, and I offer my sincerest condolences. I never knew Jason Harkins, but my son served with him. In fact, I have a photo of the two of them together on my son's memorial Web site. Sadly, my son, Sgt. Jason Walter Vaughn, was killed less than a week later than your Jason. The pain is still undeniably fresh, but both of our boys died an honorable death. May the Lord richly bless the Harkins family!

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Sergeant Harkins. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Jason,

Thanks for your sacrifice and unrelenting dedication to duty. You never skipped a beat. The night our squad was ambushed, you saved two of us. You pulled Casey out of the alley and gave me the gauze to stop me from bleeding to death. You always taught us things and made sure we were trained up on our skills. I'll never forget the great example you were and the things you did for this country and our squad. Strength and honor!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I am Deeply Saddened to learn of the loss of Sgt. Jason R. Harkins, the Price this Brave Young Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.

May Jason rest safely in the Loving Care of God and may the Grace and Comfort of the Lord be with the Harkins family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Heroes for their Supreme Sacrifice, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam many years ago.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

Sincerely hoping you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Country mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A Hero to all of us.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

May 8, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
