I miss you everyday :( I wish you could've met my two beautiful children so they could experience how big your heart is and how much love you had to give. You spoiled me rotten like I was your daughter and I loved you as if you were my dad and I was just lucky to have two that loved me. My parents miss you too. You taught me a lot of things and watched me grow from the age of 5-15. My kids will know all about your sacrifice for this country but most of all how good of a person you were and how much I loved and looked up to you. I waited for years after your death for you to just show back up and find out they made a mistake and you were alive. I couldn't handle it and grieving was too hard and I became an emotional wreck. I'm much better now though but not a day goes by I don't think of you! I love you so much!!!

I think about my friend and brother in arms SSG Shannon Weaver often. The tragic events of that day still play in my head. Shannon led his patrol in prayer before they left that day like he did so many times before. Not only was he a great friend but a true inspiration to so many of his soldiers and peers. He will be loved and missed and will always be in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers are with Desiree' and the rest of Shannon's family.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Shannon, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

After learning the name of Shannon from his brother it's like he's become part of a family. I know what you each are going through first hand as I also lost my son Buck on 11/12/06 in Samarra, Iraq. Each day becomes a bit easier but its something that we will always remember especially as parents. As a mother I want you to know that I'm here should you ever want to just talk for support. God has blessed me with this and when you are ready please contact me. May God's healing love and comfort give you some peace in the coming days.

My thoughts & prayers are with all of you. I stood with our flag along the road as this young man's processional passed in Rome. I was so touched to realize I am able to do that because of his sacrifice for me & our country. May God be very close to you in the days & weeks ahead. God's Word says "No greater sacrifice can a man make than to lay down his life for another." Your husband & son is in our Lord's care. My husband is a Viet Nam vet & we surely know the sacrifices made by our troops.
I was born & reared in Cedartown.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there... I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow...
I am the diamond glints on snow...
I am the sunlight on ripened grain...
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight...
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry-
I am not there... I did not die...

I didn't know Shannon or his family personally but he grew up in Cedartown GA about 15 miles from where we live so I somehow feel connected.
To Desiree and family - In this time of unbelievable pain & sorrow, keep your focus on the Lord - He will lead you through. And remember, there can be no sunrise without the darkness...And Shannon will be there waiting when the sunrise comes.

May 30, 2007

I didn't know your loved one, but I am the niece of Rose Champlin and wanted you to know that I am thankful for the service he provided to the citizens of our great country so that we can all live in the land of the free! I can only imagine the hurt your family is going through right now as I have many loved ones that also serve in our armed forces and know the concern for their safety when they are deployed. May Shannon rest in peace and may your family find comfort in knowing he died for something he believed in. Without knowing him, I am sure that serving this country was something he took great pride in!

I am DEEPLY touched by your loss. This is a day that families and loved ones live with the fear of each moment of their loved one's service, even as we proudly watch our young (and some not so young) men and women serve their country, willing to give their ALL that we might continue to live in a land of such GREAT FREEDOMS. The BIBLE says, "NO GREATER LOVE HATH ANY MAN THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE.." Shannon has shown such love for a world of people he has never known, he has touched lives in ways far beyond anything we will never know. But there is ONE greater than us that DOES KNOW. Words seem so inadequate at this time..I wish I had the perfect ones for you. You will remain in my heart and prayers now and forever. May Shannon rest in the arms of the angels...We will NEVER FORGET his sacrifice and yours. WITH MY DEEPEST LOVE and SYMPATHY, Rose Champlin

I am a mother of a son who served under Shannon in Afghanistan a couple of years ago. Brian is out of the army now and back in Cape Girardeau. We were all on vacation when he got the call from a former army member of their unit about Sgt. Weaver. I felt for the sadness of my son upon hearing the news and realize it is nothing to what you, the family is feeling. Brian said he was a fun guy, a career soldier with a family. He really liked him. We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Shannon in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Staff Sgt. Shannon V. Weaver, our HERO. We are so proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.
