I have thought for two years what I was gonna write here so here it goes. I was cory's sergeant for the year leading up to our deployment together to Iraq. He was an integral part of our crew the 1 truck and he was my close friend. I spent countless hours talking to cory and he really was a help when times were rough in my life. I can remember the day we got on that plane to fly to Iraq to do our job and I honestly couldn't remember a time I had ever seen corey happier. He loved the army and his crew and being in iraq was a big thing for him. The morning we lost you I can remember the last thing you said to me corey. " Sgt Traffic you know today is one of those days I realize why I love the army. Being out here with you guys and doing this makes me feel proud and happy because I love this job." Corey I miss you every day since that day and I know it was you who was watching over us the rest of that deployment to make sure we all stayed safe and focused. I miss you my favorite no rythym lawn dart. To the family of Corey I'm sorry it took me so long to write anything. You raised one of the finest men I have ever had the pleasure of being friends with and serving with in my army career.

Cory's honor was that he fell protecting his brothers, his troops, his boys. I played some George Straight tonite, gave a toast, and remembered a young man who set the bar for honor, courage, and true friendship with a smile. I just ran the Westchester "Veterun" 10k in Westchester, IL. We were all given a sticker with the information about a fallen soldier for whom we would run. Cory was the soldier for whom I ran. As a soldier myself, a 2LT Chaplain Candidate, I have great respect for our soldiers. I always run for God's glory, but today I was also running for Cory Endlich. Not that it matters how well I ran, just that I ran hard for him, but I did win the race and wanted to dedicate that victory to the soldier whose information was pinned to my number: SGT Cory M. Endlich. God bless all of Cory's loved ones who lost him on the battlefields of Iraq.

We all salute you! God bless Cory M. Endlich and his family.

To the Endlich family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Corys' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I was in the Massillon Tiger Swing Band with Cory. When I found out a year ago that he was killed over in Iraq I was devistated. A month later in July I was sworn into the United States Army. I wanted to honor him. I miss him greatly but every time I put on that uniform I know he is smiling down on me.

It has been over a year since we heard the news about Cory's death yet the pain and sorrow is as fresh as if we were just hearing it for the first time. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't give thanks to God for sharing this extraordinary young man with us if only for a brief time.
To Cathi and Randy, you are in my thoughts daily and even though I haven't been by to visit as much as I should, please know I think of you often and wish you peace and love. You and your family have etched a place in our hearts that can never be removed. I am thankful for the memories of Cory and Kevin from grade school to the days of band practice and Friday night performances. I always smile when I think of our trip to DC and "Big Bird".
I love you all. We are so proud of Cory and of Kevin for defending our country and wearing the uniform with honor.

I was Cory's Platoon Leader. He use to stand right next to me everyday on the Stryker. On June 3rd we came home. Today everyone in my platoon is out remembering him. He is missed. We told stories about him and laughed at some of the memories. Cory was always willing to help anyone. He would go out of his way to help. I have been spending the last hour looking at the news articles about his life and want to inform all of you his friends and family that his sacrifice was not in vain. The village he talked about "17 July" is much safer today than it was then. There hasn't been any attacks on them for 9 months and now the citizens are able to leave the village. AQI was completely driven out of KBS when we left. The villagers turned against them and helped us. Everyone responsible for his death has been captured.

To Cory's mom Cathi, I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better. I just want you to know that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't wish things would have been different. Cory was one of the best people I've met and I just want to thank you for sharing him with us. I'm sorry that i didn't bring him home.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Cory, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Months have gone by since we received the news about Cory and still the pain we feel at the loss of this remarkable young man is fresh in our hearts. Cory, I was looking though thousands of band pictures recently for Ashley's upcoming wedding and as I thumbed through them I remembered all the great times the band family shared. I remembered how you always called me Ms. West. I also wondered if you knew how incredibly honored I feel for having known you. As I went through pictures I found one of you, then another, and another and another. I laughed, I cried, and I smiled... As I continued digging I found a bunch of cards and I mumbled "why on earth are we saving all these" -- the first one I opened was a Birthday card. It was from you and Kevin when Ash turned 13. As soon as I opened it the tears fell. I then knew why we keep such things. That day I came across many memories of you at different times during Ash's childhood. They all made me smile, they all made me cry but most importantly they gave me hope that they were messages from a proud Army Soldier telling a sad band mom that he was okay and that he knew how proud I am of him. Thank you Cory for the many gifts you have given us and continue to give us each day. Ashley and Mitchell are being married October 18, 2008. There wedding flowers contain a deep purple flower. They are in rememberance of you Cory. Purple flowers for our fallen soldier. Ashley thinks of you often and wanted her friend honored and with her on her wedding day. A candle will also burn on the altar for loved ones we've lost over the years -- you are honored there as well. You touched our lives Cory and even though we may not have told you when we should have, we take peace in knowing that you feel our love in Heaven

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Dear Cathi, Randy and family,
Today is the 4th of July. We displayed our United States flag on this holiday. I must say that I looked at that flag a little differently today. We forget sometimes what our flag stands for. Your son, Cory, gave the ultimate sacrifice by serving our country. It is because of his sacrifice that we our able to fly the flag. We are the home of the "FREE AND THE BRAVE". Cory is a hero and he will not be forgotten. Know that he is with the angels and his star shines brightly from the heavens. He will always be in your hearts. God Bless You All!

On CNN Headline News they had a clip of President Bush speaking & he mentioned Cory. I wanted Cory's family to know. Here's what I found on google...

"President Bush speaking at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, Bush choked up while discussing Sgt. Cory M. Endlich, 23, of Massillon, Ohio -- killed in the Iraqi city of Taji on June 9.

"Here's what his dad said. He felt the war was justified and wanted to be there. That's what his dad said. 'I am proud of him and the job he is doing' ... and so am I," Bush said.

"We resolve to honor their sacrifice by finishing the work they had begun," Bush said of Endlich and his fellow troops."

June 27, 2007

Cory will always be a HERO to me. His eyes & smile would always light up a room. I'm certain, some how, God had sent us a few signs. Not knowingly at the time. Yet so very clear now.
My sister & I shared a story about Cory, while sitting outside the Dairy Queen he & Kevin had worked. This was just two nights before the news. Caiden {my grandson} was staying the night at Nanas'. We called Cathi to meet us for ice cream and to return her cell phone. I've been to many Dairy Queens before, just never that one...
Then Friday evening while Randy & Cathi were visiting their son & daughter-in-law, Kenny & Stephanie, the storm hit. They had seen a big flash of lightning that seemed way to close, and when they arrived home, there was a hugh limb in their back yard from the neighbors tree. And one of them remarked about how Cory always loved climbing that tree........
The very next morning after cleaning up the branches....
Two strangers were walking up the driveway--and they just knew....
I guess the time difference in Iraq during Friday nights storm, was already Saturday there. ???

This past year, we lost 5 of our family, and 4 speial friends. Cory was #10,the most heart breaking of all. When we got together before he left for Iraq, he was determined to make a difference, yet he was still the teasing, silly kid I always knew. I didn't see the "MAN in UNIFORM" many could see. It was Cory, my crazy little nephew with those beautiful blue eyes and silly little grin keeping in step with Kevin to tease me as always with a very ugly name!!
For some strange reason I'll never understand, I could not hug him before he left....I couldn't give Kevin a hug when he left for Iraq either. Still not sure why?
But what I am sure about, is he wanted to be there. He wanted to make a difference. SO BRAVE, PROUD & VERY HOPEFUL....and SO,,SO... YOUNG. I'm not sure when this will seem real. I guess time will tell.

As the service was coming to a close at Sunset Hills, the clouds returned. I think most everyone was able to stay dry. But the few of us remaining got to see that storm again. When Cathi & Randy got back to the house, another big branch was lying in the yard from that tree. The neighbor told her it was a sign from Cory just to let them know "HE WAS OK" Then she said it had to come down.
They were leaving for Washington where Cory was stationed before he went to Iraq. Randy, Cathi, Kevin, Kenny & Stephanie would be there for a MEMORIAL SERVICE for Cory & other Soldiers killed recently. They are all Heros to me. Please bless all the families of these Brave Young Soldiers.
When Corys' family returns home, the tree will also be gone. But the memories will always be there.

Many of you may not know this, but the day of Corys' Service at the High School, the last day they would see Cory again, was also Cathi & Randys "31st" Anniversary. They never mentioned it, but I never forget that day, It was also to be my father-in-laws birthday. He too, was a very good man. Never to be forgotten.

I didn't see them the day after, but I was there Thursday. I was going through an album I had looked at before when the boys graduated High School. This book was Cory in his elementry years.
As I lookedat it this time, I noticed an AWARD he received, and the DATE he received it. Just gave me chills!

"JUNE 9th" 1994
THE OUTSTANDING ACHIVEMENT AWARD
And a list of reasons he received it. He had many awards in that book, and then another date caught my eye.
Cory had sent a letter to the White House. {Not sure what it was about}. At that time Bill Clinton was in office. What ever Cory wrote to him must have been impressive. Cory recieved a reply from the Presedent and it was dated June 2nd, Corys' 11th birthday. He wrote how impressed he was with Corys' letter and also how he felt certain Cory would be an outstanding young man for the future of our country. He had hope for many more like him. He thanked & praised Cory for his pride in the USA.
Again I got the chills. Cathi said he was very proud of that letter, as he should have been.

I could have spent hours reading from CORYS' early school days.
Then there was a story he wrote in 5th grade. OH MY! What a story! WOW! We were getting ready to eat dinner and I couldn't put it down. I was laughing so much I think my sister, Randy & Kevin thought I was nuts. So I started reading it out loud, in 2 seconds, we were all laughing......ALOT!!!!
We will miss that silly soldier more than words can say. I think he set me up for that story. We really all needed that laugh. I felt a bit better when I went home that night. What a funny story!!

I have found some comfort knowing he is with his Grandparents, all 5 of them. And Aunt Julie & Uncle John. The boys spent many summers swimming in her big pool. Julie was always teasing them and throwing them in the water. Many good memories there.

I've had to think alot about death this past year. I believe every Life is a MIRACLE. I also feel we all have a purpose for being here. When that purpose is fulfilled in Gods' eyes, His greatest MIRACLE happens...
PEACE - LOVE - HAPPINESS - REUNITED WITH OUR LOVED ONES OF YESTERDAYS - AND...
FOREVER WITH HIM

AS HARD AS IT HAS BEEN, MY WISH TO SEE THEM ALL AGAIN WILL HELP ME BE STRONG, FOR NOW..FOR CORY, PLEASE, NEVER FORGET ALL THE BRAVE YOUNG MEN THAT TRIED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ALL OF US. THEY WERE SOLDIERS WITH A PURPOSE. BE VERY PROUD AND ALWAYS ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM. FOR ALL OF THEM...
"GOD BLESS OUR TROUPS"
"GOD BLESS AMERICA"
I WILL FOREVER LOVE & MISS THOSE SWEET EYES CORY!!!

Randy & Cathi,
Having been a band mom with you and having Cory over here on Friday afternoons was such a pleasure. I pray that God grant you peace during this heart wrenching time. God gives us these children to take care of while they are here on this earth. He obviously made a great choice in choosing you to care for Cory; such a wonderful, upstanding young man doesn't just happen... it takes a lot of work and nurturing and role models. I'm just so sorry that God called him home this soon.
Satan is the malignant spirit that loves to see us sad
Be sad at our separation; rejoice in Cory's reunion with his Heavenly Father. Easy to say; impossible to do.
God bless and be with you.

CORY WAS ONE OF A KIND. A SON TO US. WE'D COME HOME FROM WORK AND HE WOULD BE AT THE HOUSE, ARM TIRED FROM THROWING THE BALL FOR MICKEY...JUST SITTING IN THE BACK YARD WORKING ON HIS GILLY SUIT. ALWAYS WITH A READY SMILE AND WHETHER I BURNED THE BACON OR LAYED OUT A HUGH SPREAD FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER, HE SAID IT WAS SO GOOD TO GET SOME HOME COOKING. HE WILL ALWAYS HAVE A CHAIR OUT UNDER THE TREE WITH US AND HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS. I MAY NEVER GET ANOTHER HUG FROM HIM, BUT I WILL FOREVER SEE HIS SMILE.

I am from Massillon and I am a retired Army NCO. I've been to Iraq 3 times and as an NCO, I worried about my Soldiers as if they were my own. Cory's passing is of deep sorrow as I am a Massillonian. I feel I have lost a Brother in Arms and someone I could have connected with as a fellow neighbor. My condolences. I will remember his name. A true Hero. May he rest in peace.

I knew Cory form working with him at Dairy Queen. We became friends and kept in touch, after he left. Just one of the many memories i have of Cory, was when attended a Korn concert. We did not go together, just both happened to be there. He knew that Korn was my Favorite band, and during the performance some confetti came out into the crowd. Well Cory was down on the main floor, while i was up in the seats. and the confetti did not reach me. I guarantee without even a second thought, Cory picked up some of the confetti and stuck it in his pocket. The next time i saw him at work he handed me a Korn cd and in it was the confetti. I still have it to this day and it just shows how he always thought of others no matter what. Cory, you will forever be my HERO! I miss you more and more every day, and i still look for you to walk through the doors at work. You will forever be with me and with everybody that has had the pleasure of knowing you.

I remember him from the Massillon Swing Band. I played the flute but i had the joy to know him and his mom a little, his mom was so helpful she had to special order my band uniform and she had no complants. Cory would say hi every once in awhile. God Bless Him and His Family.

Cory was a student in my 5th grade class. I remember Cory as a bright-eyed, eager student who loved to help others. He was so considerate and went out of his way to make others feel better. He was a very hard worker and always tried his best. I always knew Cory was destined to do great things - and I was right.

I can hardly believe Cory is no longer here, but as his one of his teachers, could not be prouder of what he has accomplished. My bright-eyed, eager student made a name for himself fighting for the freedom we all take for granted every day.

Thank you, Cory for being a great student. Thank you, Cory for growing up and becoming an even better man. Thank you, Cory for making all of us who were lucky enough to have known you so proud. Thank you, Cory for willingly fighting for the freedom so many of us take for granted every day. Thank you, Cory for being a hero to myself and so many others.

May God be with Cory's family and friends as they make sense of his death. May His love comfort and guide you in the days ahead.

Goodbye my student, my hero. You may have been taken from us, but will never be forgotten.

Cathi, Randy & family:

I can only send my prayers and deepeset sympathies to you.I never knew you son, but from what I read he was a very well like & respected man. One of my close friends recently died in Iraq, and I can tell you that I honor Cory's memory just as much as I do my friends. All members of our military, especially those who are overseas, are heroes! Your son died to defend my freedom, and that is something that no amount of words will ever be an adequate enough thanks. In memory of Cory...my prayers are with you!

There is a young man standing just beyond the dawn,
Standing tall looking proud with his uniform on...
A smile graces his face, yes a crooked little grin;
And from here I can see the dimple on his chin...
He speaks softly but his voice carries far,

"Cry not for me," he says "as I leave from where you are"
"I've started on a journey - this mile I'll walk alone"
"But as I go, I'm taking with me, all the memories of home"
"I chose this life for me you see -- you may not understand"
"It was my greatest honor to fight, in a foriegn land"
"I served my country gladly, and for that there's no regret"
"All I ask of you today is that you will not forget--"
"my brothers and my sisters, that serve our country still"
"those that served before me, and those that someday will..."
"We chose this life of service so all of you'd be free"
"Remember ALL the soliders, when you stop to think of me"
"Tell my parents I was honored, for them to call me son"
"Tell my brothers I will see them, when their time on Earth is done"
"Fly your flags proudly and spread the colors through the sky,"
"It was my honor to serve you - It was my honor to die..."

And as the young man said these words, he turned to walk away;
Leaving me to ponder all he'd had to say...
And so it is my honor to ask this at his request to me
Remember ALL the soldiers when you think of Cory
For they are serving proudly to keep our country free...
It is with pride they stand, and honor that they fall...
And they deserve our love -- not one, not two, but ALL...

Robin Smilek

Thank you seems inadequate, but it is all we have to offer. We have our freedom because of selfless soldiers like your son. We grieve with you. God Bless You All.
