The Dash essay certainly fits this life. As our family and friends prepare to send the best Love in a box to our Marine, the end of earth days for Shawn, 6/6/2007, is the big, age of majority for Ted.

We pray for them at bedtime, at dawn, at Sr. Roberta's retirement concert and 25th year of service celebration send-off. We thank them all as we vote, speak our minds and complain when we are too hot at 75 degrees.

As Mom, I want to send his favorite ice cream and two spoons so he can give someelse the first taste, like he did with me here over the Holidays. He could handle the calories so much better than me.

WE pray for Secy of War Gates that his tenacity and focus continue to be on a just Peace that will stick. Get to the point of the unrest, teach the natives how to live together as the Lion and the Lamb.

God knows LOVE not so much which religion to choose. We have today to choose the best path.

Dear Shawn, I just recently found out that my son, Cpl. Joshua H. Reeves, thought of you as one of his best friends. I saw a picture of him at your memorial service in Iraq and he looks grief stricken. I just want your family to know that I appreciate the way they raised you. You must be a very special man for my son to think of you so highly. Josh was very reserved and held his friends dear. Josh was killed on Sept. 22, 2007, just about 12 hours after the birth of his first child. I know you and Josh are together and I am so glad that he has friends and family around him. Thank you for your service. Thank you for being a friend to my son. God bless your family. God be with you. Please give Josh a hug. I will always remember you and your service. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Shawn, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Family and Love ones of PFC Gajdos

I can't even begin to feel your pain. Greatly sorry for your loss of a fine young man. His life and love for you will go on for ever. I read the tribute from Captain Michael A. Jurick Jr. it really brought me to tears and later honor.
I rode with the Patriot Guard Riders while we escorted your loved one from Grandville to the church. I never knew Shawn but I was honored to ride with him to the church. His Company Commander said it so beautiful, a leader, soldier, Hero and a Patroit. Deeply sorry for your loss.

To the family of PFC Gajdos, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know that nothing anyone can say right now can ease the pain that you must be feeling. Shawn was a friend to my son PFC Brandon Wood who serves in the same platoon. He told me that "Shawn was my best boy". I appreciate the job your son did and for the friendship that he had with Brandon. I pray that he will continue as one of God's Soldiers to look after all the men and women serving our country. God Bless Shawn and your family at this extremely difficult time. If you are interested Brandon sent me a picture of your son that I would be happy to forward to you if you are interested. I will send my e-mail for your reply if you are interested.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there... I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow...
I am the diamond glints on snow...
I am the sunlight on ripened grain...
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you waken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of gentle birds in circling flight...
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry-
I am not there... I did not die...

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

June 9, 2007

For your bravery, I will always respect you.
For your heroism, I will always honor you.
For your selflessness, I will always love you.
For your dedication, I will always remember you.
For my safety, I will always thank you.
For your sacrifice, I can never repay you.

I wrote this for my brother, Sgt. Justin Wisniewski, whom I lost on May 19, 2007. My heart is still an open wound and it will take more time to heal than any physical wound ever would. Because like you, I not only lost a loved one, a hero, but I lost hopes and dreams, memories that were waiting to be made. I lost the chance to make up for lost time, to make up for the almost three years my brother was in the service.

But what helps me to get through each day is knowing that when it is finally my turn to go home, I will be reunited with Justin and we will have eternity to do all of those things we missed here on earth, and that will be time that nothing, not even death, can take away.

I am forever sorry for the loss of this brave young man, as well as for all of the soldiers who have taken this country's protection upon themselves, and who have given everything for that cause. If Shawn is anything like Justin, he had a spirit and a determination that will never die. God bless you and my family and I will keep you in our prayers.

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
