Michael Moody Obituary
He began his military career in 1997. He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. After graduation, he spent a tour of duty at Scheweinfurt, Germany with a six month combat deployment to Kosovo, Bosnia. He was serving his third combat deployment in Iraq.
Michael was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Eugene Moody and Virginia Moody-Jones and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Charlene Mason.
He is survived by his loving parents, Michael D. Moody Sr. and Connie Mason-Moody of Stony Creek, Va.; one brother, Kedrick D. Moody (Ebony) of Midlothian, Va. He also leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Sabreeyah Moody of El Paso, Texas; and one son, Malik Goodwyn of Jarratt, Va.; two nieces Kedeisha and Kaia Moody; stepfather, Robert L. Jones of Jarratt, Va.; godparents, Mary Louise Givens of Jarratt, Va. and David Brown of Fla.; eight aunts Mary Louise Givens (Ben) and Carolyn Mattox (Tony) of Jarratt, Va., Ethel Lee Mason of Baltimore, Md., Betty Jones (Wayne) and Barbara Wilson (Kenny) of Newport News, Va., Sandra Mason of Emporia, Va., Sylvia V. Mitchell (Donzell) of Jacksonville, Fla. and a dedicated and devoted aunt, Phyllis Diana Moody of Richmond, Va.; one foster aunt Debra Jones of Alexandria, Va.; four uncles: Command Sgt Major (Retired) Larry D. Moody (Angel) of Fayetteville, N. C, Thomas Mason (Eva) and Tony Mason of Jarratt, Va. and Clyde Mason of Baltimore, Md.; seven great-aunts; five great-uncles; one great-great-great-aunt Ezlene Roney (102 years of age) of Dinwiddie, Va.; and a host of cousins and friends to include a devoted friend Jerome Becton.
Funeral services for Staff Sgt. Moody will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23803 with the Rev. Jeffrey Reeves officiating and the Rev. Frederick Young of Shiloh Baptist Church eulogizing. Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Cemetery. Family may be contacted by calling (434) 246-4651. Family and friends are asked to assemble 9:30 a.m. at 13004 Park Ave., Stony Creek, Va.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jones-Peace Funeral Services 13013 Park Ave., Stony Creek, Va.

Mike first and foremost thank you for your service and sacrifice to this country, even back when we were kids you were always a standup guy....i remember us playing football together you were the best and fastest player on our team for henning. I remember your pops used to get on us when i would spend the night cause we were always trying to cause some mischief and he was a no nonsense type father. I also served for this country so i know the the sacrifice it takes so Thanks again for your ultimate sacrifice to make sure we are safe...RIP my brother in arms and your legacy and impact will live on forever.

So much has changed in 7 years, but nothing can change how often I think of you and what type of brother/role model you were to me. We spent damn near every day together from the time I was born until you left the house after Highschool. Me to the Marines (Finest Fighting Force in the world btw Mike lol) and you to the ARMY. When I discuss you I find myself saying all the time that I lost a BEST FRIEND and a Brother at the same time . 6/23/07...7 years ago today my world was rocked with the horrible phone call at 6 in the morning from a chaplain calling from mom and dad house to tell me that SSG Michael D Moody was Killed in action. I will forever hate this day but I will ALWAYS honor the passing of My HERO, My BEST FRIEND, My BROTHER. I will visit your burial site later today as I always do on this date. Just let you know I'm still here with you and i only wish I was able to be there with you on that fatal day in uniform fighting side by side!
