Earl Clary Obituary

Earl W. Clary, Sr.
Earl Whitmoore Clary Sr. was born on September 18, 1948, to the late Whit and Lucy Clary in Southampton County, Ivor Virginia. He was one of four children, including James Clary. On August 24, 2021, Earl transitioned into eternal rest.
He was preceded in death by James Clary and Curley Lunsford.
At an early age, Earl accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He was a lifelong member of New Branch Baptist Church, Ivor, VA. As a youth, he was active in the youth choir. In the later years, he was the chairman of the trustee board. Wherever needed, Earl was always willing to help. He loved his church, his church family, and his Pastor, Rev Frank L. Aikens Sr.
He graduated from River View High School in Courtland, VA in 1966. His work history includes, Gwaltney, Smithfield, VA, Newport News Shipyard, Brown and Williamson Tobacco, Petersburg, VA and Allied Colloid, later known as Ciba Chemical Company. When he retired, it was BASF Chemical Company. In his later years, he worked for LogistiCare, now known as ModivCare, and Southeastran as a volunteer driver.
Earl was an avid motorcycle rider. When he first got a bike, he could not drive it home. His brother-in-law, the late Calvin Lunsford drove it to Ivor, Virginia, and taught him how to ride and he loved riding bikes. He was one of the founding members of the Friendly Riders Club of Sedley, Virginia, he also served as president. This club is about 40 years old. He loved the members and has taken long trips riding his bike. Some of the trips include Kansas, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Arkansas, Las Vegas, California, and Georgia three times. The last trip was to Macon Georgia about three weeks ago.
Earl leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rev. Betty Davis Clary of 49 years and 10 months; a son, Earl W. Clary Jr. (Erica) of Chesterfield, VA; a daughter, Latanya Butler of Waverly, VA; seven grandchildren, Shanelle Clary of Greensville, NC, LaShanna Clary, and Shaniyah Butler both of Waverly, VA, Earl W. Clary III "Trey", Ethan Clary, Krystal Clary and Elias Clary; one sister, Alberta Todd (Willie Ray), two nephews, Danny, "Tony" Boykins of Newport News, VA and Daniel "Boone" Boykins (Faye) of Acworth, GA; one grandnephew, Solomon Boykins, one grandniece, Jasmine Boykins of Greensboro, NC; one sister-in-law, Rev. Alice Hudgins of Hopewell; one brother-in-law, Larry Davis of Newport News, VA; cousins, Winston Clary (Lois) of Richmond, VA, Aravia and Lillian Holloman of Bowie, MD, June Bowers, and Gail Copeland, Reginald Johnson (Gwen), William Holloway (Ethel) of Ivor, and many other relatives and friends. Devoted friends to name a few, Everton Harris, Junius Carroll, Lorenzo Claiborne and Dennis Mason.
Public Viewing will be 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Peace Funeral Home Waverly, VA.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Wakefield, VA., Rev. Leslie Holloway, Pastor, Rev. Frank Aikens Sr, Eulogist
