Morris Clary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Mar. 8, 2026.
Morris Dale Clary, 80, peacefully passed away at Wayne UNC Healthcare on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born in Springfield, Illinois on November 30, 1945, he was the son of the late Travis Bergene Clary and Mary Ellen Gunter Clary.

Dale is survived by his loving wife, LaDonna Marie Sargent Clary; daughters, Jennifer Marie Morgan (John) and Amie Elizabeth Willis (Randall); and grandchildren, Michael Paul Morgan (Sharon), Ellen Marie Reed (Timothy), Leon Dale Morgan, Samuel Elliott Willis, Grace Elizabeth Willis, and Haylea Marie Sieben. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Travis Clary (Christine), his sister, Nancy Ellen Clary Seigler (Michael) and nephew Bryan Earl Seigler (Sara). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Brittany Megan Morgan.

Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who believed deeply in putting family first. His family was the center of his life, and he was known for the love, guidance, and dedication he showed them.

Faith was also a cornerstone of Dale's life. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Goldsboro in his later years, after attending Pine Forest United Methodist Church for many years. His strong faith and commitment to his church community were evident to all who knew him.

Dale was a talented athlete who loved sports. His skill on the baseball field earned him the opportunity to be drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he chose instead to pursue his education at the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Before commissioning as an officer in military service, Dale worked as a high school civics teacher and coached wrestling and basketball, mentoring many young people and helping shape their futures.

Dale answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force, where he built a distinguished 22-year career. He served as the Aircraft Commander and Pilot on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, instructing and leading aircrew while holding key leadership roles within his squadron and overseeing pilot evaluations and check rides to uphold the highest standards of safety and readiness. Alongside his military service, he pursued his education with determination, earning two master's degrees, underscoring his dedication to learning and service.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Dale continued serving his country as an independent contractor working with the United States government. In this role, he contributed to several significant defense initiatives, including the development of stealth technology and the Tomahawk cruise missile program, along with other advanced defense systems and the Lockheed WC-130 hurricane reconnaissance aircraft.

Outside of his professional life, Dale enjoyed gardening, caring for his pets, and playing golf. After retirement, he worked part-time in the pro shop at Lane Tree Golf Club, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow golfers and friends. Dale also enjoyed music from the 1960s and loved dancing with LaDonna. Family members especially enjoyed catching him sneaking in a dance in the kitchen or even while cleaning the pool. Dale was also a passionate fan of his and LaDonna's alma mater, the Michigan Wolverines, proudly supporting their team whenever they played.

He was a proud member of the Freemasons in New Paris, Ohio, where he was elected Grandmaster within his lodge and was respected by his fellow Masons for his dedication and service.

Dale will be remembered for his strong moral compass and his unwavering commitment to doing what was right. A man of faith, integrity, and deep love for his family, his life was devoted to his country, his community, and those he held dear. He leaves a legacy of kindness, patriotism, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A memorial service to celebrate Dale's life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Pastor Karl Grant presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be directed to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1608 E Pine St, Goldsboro, NC 27530 in memory of Dale.
