Eric Sturm Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Mar. 11, 2026.
Goldsboro – Eric Charles Sturm, 72, passed away suddenly on Monday, March 9, 2026, at UNC Health Wayne. Eric was born in Chemung County, New York, on November 20, 1953, to the late Frederick and Doris Sturm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frederick Sturm II.

Eric proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring with the rank of Captain. He was a proud third generation military veteran. During his distinguished career, Eric received numerous awards in recognition of his dedication and commitment to his country.

Family was always the center of Eric's life. Time spent with his children and grandchildren meant the world to him, and he rarely missed an opportunity to attend their events and support their activities. He will be remembered as a husband, loving father, and proud "Grandpa," always putting his family first.

Eric also had a special place in his heart for all his grand pets, sneaking them treats and toys he would specially bring them.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service at 5:00 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Otis E. Hamm officiating. A private interment will be held at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Eric is survived by his wife Barbara Sturm; his children, Rachel Suydam and husband, Ryan; Amanda Sturm; and David Sturm; and his beloved grandchildren, Rebekah, Leah, Benjamin, and Elijah. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Lynch and husband, Mark; Donna White and husband, Stan; and Christine Waite and husband, Brad; his brothers, Mark Sturm and James Sturm and wife, Gayla; and many in-laws, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Eric's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
