GODSPEED MAJ SID BROOKSHIRE & FAMILY!
It´s Deb K again. I thank you for your service. I remember our fun times together very fondly while you were in Ranger training & I in ATL, GA. Laptops were scarce in Billeting then, yet Sid emailed me a pic of an accordion in a letter/LOL! So there´s a vintage memory!!
SID you were Exceptional! A dedicated, honorable, strong, capable, smart, kind, ultimate soldier. Been my honor to know you! Please send blessings to keep our World out of harm! XXOO

I was a fellow student of Sid´s at the US Naval War College in 2004. Sid got me through The planning course and is (was) the smartest person I have ever known. I was stationed in Africa when I found out from a fellow classmate. Whenever anyone asks me who the smartest person I know is I never fail to say Sid. You are missed warrior.

My memories of Sid continue especially as I hike the PCT. We had many fun times hiking and exploring in deserts and mountains. In March 2018 I hiked through some of the same places in the San Bernardino Mountains. Just one year ago my brother, Don, joined Sid
in eternity. As I completed my hike 26 March 2018 I took a picture of the trail near where I had hiked with Sid and Don. The picture unexpectedly has a beam of light shinning on the trail. I take this as a reassuring sign that Sid and Don are seeing me as I trek this earthly path. I thank God for Sid and for his sacrifice for our freedom today.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Brookshire Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Sid W. Brookshire US Army Major. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

I will never forget Sid's gift to us which establishes our freedom. Today, I am going on a short hike near Lake of the Woods, Oregon. We hiked in that area in the late 90's. I will be praying for all those who stand against the evil that continues to try to destroy freedom.
Major Brookshire and your fellow soldiers I salute you.

Another year gone since Sid was taken home to heaven. I hiked 52 miles of the PCT in two days this week. Many times as I hiked my thoughts were on the times we hiked. Time and tides erode our memories. I strive to remember the contributions Sid made to our family. ..... Philippians 4:7

I am so thankful that there are those who will never forget my son. The pain of his loss hasn't gone, just sometimes it subsides a little bit. I so miss his smile, his sense of humor and his integrity (something so lacking in our world today). Mostly, I just hope God doesn't take too much longer to let me go home to see Sid. Sid's gone, Jim's gone, I guess I just haven't learned everything I need to down here before I get to go see him in his white robes, busy with his work in heaven.

Brother,
I feel your loving and protective presence around Alice and I. Thank you for insisting I be the one to tell Dad. It was the worst day of my life and the hardest thing I've ever done, but compared to the loss of your physical being, who am I to complain? I recognize you every time I hear a helicopter and know like Debbie sending butterflies, it's your special nod just for me.
I have not recovered from the bitter hate at the cause of you leaving us, for if a man as sound and true as you can be taken what hope do any of his have? I am forever honored to be your sister and strive to be a woman you would be proud of. Forever Together!

This is Kevin Warren. Sid and I worked together in Dahlonega.
I pray you and the girls are well. I am so sorry for your loss. I was in Iraq when Sid died. I cannot believe he is gone. I remember him as a steady, professional who was always positive, even when he hurt his leg and was removed from being a platoon trainer and became the S4. I was more upset about that than he was.
Anyway, I want you to know that you and Sid are still fondly remembered.

I met Sid years ago in New Orleans with a group of friends. and over the following years I had an opportunity to see him a few times in Atlanta. Although we fell out of touch, I remember Sid was a kind, considerate, and very funny man. I was honored to know him and I will always remember him with fondness and care. My thoughts and prayers are with you. This world is a better place because he was here.

Dear Brookshire family,
I am so sorry for the loss of your son, father, husband, SID. He and his birthday, appropriately being 9-11, will forever be remebered.
I knew Sid when he was at FT Benning prior to Korea. I remember thinking if God could tailor make a soldier, they would be made just like Sid. Motivated, strategic, strong, honorable, dedicated, loyal and brave. He was so proud to be a Ranger too!
We met on a fluke in New Orleans...I cannot believe that events with Katrina and Iraq have changed so many lives. The landscapes are forever altered. SID spoke so fondly of his parents, Rangers, "hogs", how he wanted kids, he later wrote of meeting Karin, his future wife.
I pray that Brookshire families are comforted and doing well, despite such a devastating loss. I'm sure you're thankful you had such a wonderful gifted man. One life can influence so many others! SID will continue be a beacon to all who were lucky enough to know him!

I was a Battery Commander in 2nd Brigade, 3ID. I worked with Major Brookshire in the field at Fort Stewart before the deployment, deployed with him to Iraq, was in Taji with him in May, and the day he was killed I was fighting 20km south of Baghdad. He was one of my favorites, and his loss had a profound impact on the entire Brigade. To his daughters I say that your Dad was a master Soldier, a great leader, and an amazing person. I will carry his memory with me the rest of my life. You should always be very proud of him. It was an honor to serve with him. I am still saddened by your death. I visit your tree on the "warrior walk" at FT Stewart and have left coins and glass rocks everytime and make sure your stone is wiped off and the tree is good to go. I pray for your beutiful family and hope they are safe and protected. You gave the utltimate sacrifice for a nation that barley keeps attention on your sacrifice between "American Idol" and "Survivor" episodes but people who have come here, people who took the time to honor you and all those who have walked with you in uniform, we will never forget and will remain enternally grateful.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

MAJ Brookshire,
Sir, It seems weird to see this picture of you as a Captain. It is hard to believe that a year has gone by since I ate dinner with you, MAJ Hayden and a few other Rogues. It is hard to think that almost a year ago, as I type this, I was sitting in a chow hal when I heard Field Grades say that they couldnt believe what happend to Sid. There was only one man that came to mind, you. I left the DFAC and threw up. I cried for an hour mainly for Karin and your kids and the Soldiers you wouldnt be able to lead, you were such a good example for us Captains a family Man and a Soldier. I still cant believe you arent with us anymore.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Last night I was looking at the back of an SUV and saw the bumper stickers supporting the cause in Iraq. I was touched by the "Home of the Free because of the Brave". However, the one that seemed to burn into my heart was the yellow ribbon that said "until they all come home". I've read it many times before, but it just really hit me harder then. Your Sid has found his ultimate home...we are still on our journey. We become so busy in our lives that we forget the ultimate sacrifice that others take for us...including Jesus...Now you have 2 in Heaven to shine down and watch over you amongst the angels. Ask God to give you comfort and peace. He's the most wonderful healer. We will have your family in our prayers.

To the Brookkshire Family
I see tears fall down your face
When your thoughts have turned to me.
Just know that I’m in heaven,
With my Lord, who’s set me free.
No pain or sadness do I feel,
For God is by my side.
The beauty here in Heaven
Is now where I reside.
I know it’s hard for you to cope
For you can’t feel my touch.
But every moment, I can see
And love you very much.
When you are at your lowest
And feel you can’t go on,
Look towards the heavens
The light will be turned on.
Talk to me, just like you did
On earth when I was there.
You see, I’m not so far away …
Only as far as a prayer.
And when it’s time for you to join
Me up in Heaven above.
It’s then that you will realize,
The Golden Place of love.
For here there is no sadness,
Just everlasting light.
Someday we will be joined again,
When it’s time to take your flight.

How proud a father he was to have the honors of putting your bars on your shoulders when you received your commission into the USA as an officer. You have touched so many hearts. A caring man who served first with the Army National Guard of MO , graduating from Southwest Mo State, and the War College.
As I hear the song
“A Soldier's Prayer. I think of you and those that fought for our freedom.
Sid you will be missed
I have a memorial set up in your honor at the Springfield-Greene Co Mo library.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

My son is a 1992 Willard graduate, so he and Sid may have known each other. I can't imagine the deep sadness you must be experiencing, but want you to know I thank God for men like Sid who are willing to pay the highest price for freedom.
May God bless and strengthen his family as they endure the trying times ahead. Sincerely, Loree Quinn and family

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am to learn of the loss of Maj. Sid W. Brookshire. The Price this Brave Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.
May Maj. Brookshire rest safely now, in the Loving Care of God and may the Grace and Comfort of the Lord be with the Brookshire family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Heroes for their Sacrifices, as well as their Courage, Dedication and Service. My brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam, in 1967.
"I consider that our present sufferings.
are not worth comparing with the glory
that shall be revealed in us."

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.
To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

My grief for the loss of you son is felt. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was KIA 11/12/06 in Samarra, Iraq SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I"m not close I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry. Mother of another fallen soldier
