It is approching the anniversary and even though I never knew SGT Wakeman personally, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't remember having to deliver that horrible news to SGT Wakeman's parents. My pain can not compare to yours, but that was the toughest day of my life. He is a hero. I gained comfort looking at his wall and reading everyone's fond memories of SGT Wakeman. Margaret, David and Zack, I wish you peace and I know Dustin is looking down on you.

To the Family of Sgt. Dustin Wakeman,
I am not sure why we have not touched base with you sooner, but today I was looking at Dustin's photo on a quilt that is being carried across the country by a man named Tiger Patrick and Dustin's photo was next to our son Matthew, who was also killed on the same day. Tomorrow will be the boys Angelversary as we call it and I wanted you to know we are thinking of you all. Thank you for your son's service to our country and for his sacrifice. May you all find peace tomorrow.

I know it's been a couple of years, but... Veterans Day just came, and I thought about Dustin. I stumbled upon a copy of the article written about him in the Star Telegram that I'd saved, and thought I'd see if this was still here.

It's still pretty impossible to believe that this happened. Dustin was an amazing guy. He was one of my best friends in high school, and I deeply regret that we fell out of touch after. He meant a lot to me, despite that. We would spend hours on the phone, or sing silly songs on the long band bus rides. High school's a pretty intense time where a lot of crazy stuff happens, and I can't remember that part of my life without Dustin in it.

From everything that everyone's written and said about him, it seems like he really did find his place. And I'm happy for it. I only wish he'd been able to experience it longer. But... He still did far more noble and amazing things in his brief time than half the people you come across will do in a lifetime.

Still remembering you, Dustin.

To the Wakeman Family...after finding out about the date Dustin died, I found out several more young soldiers also died the same day. I know the feeling you all are feeling and I just wish none of us had to feel this way. I can't explain how sad I am to read all the stories of everyones young son or daughter. It hurt to know we will never see them again. But then I do know someday soon I will see my son but just not on this earth but in someplace so much better and happier. You son is there with my son and all the other hero's. They are safe, happy and at peace. Please know you can call anytime as I hope we can stay in touch. Bless you all.

Though I did not know Dustin personally (only through his Aunt Penelope's beautiful words), he will always be a hero to me. I am truly sorry for your loss. No words can make this sacrifice any easier to your family, but I want to say that your son is the reason we all have our freedom. He is a true American HERO!!! My family and I wish you all the best and our prayers are with your family forever. Thank you for having such a brave and wonderful son.

I think my brother, sister-in-law and nephew, Zack, are also heros... unsung too much. But that they soldier on in the face of so much pain and don't give up - that is a huge inspiration to all who share their pain, even in part. God Bless this family.

Hi, Dustin-
I didn't know you; I know your Aunt Penelope. I have to confess that I don't know much about the armed services, and I was so against everyone being over there. But, when I read the stories about you, and how brave you were, and how you wanted to be in the front lines, I feel like I must step back and take a second look. You must have seen something over there, and believed so passionately in what you were doing, to have been where you were the day you passed away. It just reminds me that I am milliions of miles away with an uneducated mind, and a tunnel vision opinion. Thank you, my friend. Thank you for being so brave, and standing up for what you believed in. Thank you for protecting me, and my loved one's. Thank you for protecting my little nephew's, and your little niece (whom I've grown to love so much). I know you already have your family up in heaven, but my father is up there, too. He loved his country so much, and he respected brave and courageous people, like yourself. So feel free to hang out with him; he's a good guy, and a jokester. Much love and prayers to your family!!!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Dustin, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Greetings. Today, my church asked that when we leave, if we could pick a name out of this very large basket of all the fallen heros and pray for everylasting peace and continued strength for the families. Out of the hundreds of pieces of paper in the basket, I picked Dustin's name. My thoughts and continued prayers go out to his family for love, peace and strength. I live in Maryland which is about 20 minutes from DC and will make it a point to trace his name on the wall.

Im sorry to hear about your loss. Words can never express the gratitude we have for your son and the other men and women who have died or are still fighting for our nation. We to lost a hero on July7, 2007 in Samarra, Irak SPC. Roberto J. Causor met his Creator. Two thoughts come to mind: Only 2 were willing to lay their lives for us. Jesus Christ and a soldier. One died for our soul and the other for our freedom. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13.
May God grante you the comfort you and your family need now and in the future.

August 16, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

The Fallen

Death has claimed my hero
So young, but so brave and true
Fighting our country's battle
Under the red, white, and blue

A mother's son he'll be forever
But the end of a father's dream
To someday work together
As a "Father and Son" team

A grandmother alone sits quietly
Shedding a painful tear
Pondering the last letter he'd written
A treasure she'll forever hold dear

We ask ouselver the question
Why? A life-evil demands
He went to war only a boy
But died a truly brave man

Dearest Wakeman Family,
We stand so small in comparison to young men and women who, like your son, had the bravery to stand for our country and the freedom we all enjoy. As parents, the sorrow you must be suffering is beyond our imagination. Words truly cannot express the deep admiration we have for your son and you. All of you have displayed patriotism that is so rare in our country today. Our hearts are breaking for you as you endure the grief of losing Dustin. The Fallen

Death has claimed my hero
So young, but brave and true
Fighting our country's battle
Under the red, white, and blue

A mother's son he'll be forever
But the end of a father's dream
To someday work together
as a "Father and Son" team

A gandmother alone sits quietly
Shedding a painful tear
Pondering the last letter he'd written
A treasure she'll forever hold dear

We ask ourselves the question
Why?A life-evil demands
He went to war only a boy
But died a truly brave man.

Oh God, My heart goes out to David and Margaret. I can't imagine what you'll are feeling. But I am here for you day and night if you ever need me for anything. My heart also goes out to Zack, I love you and I am here for you to be your backbone and support. I'm here forever, and will be here to comfort the entire family as needed.

I never got my opportunity to make my Dustin memories. But I attended school with him for 2 years, he was such a "weird" but nice guy. We were in Drama together. Mike, Ivan, Bob, and Dustin were all a very humorous group. The last memory I have of Dustin was when he was in town last year. I was scared to see him again, but of course he made sure we talked and made me feel more at ease with his jokes. Zack and Dustin ganged up on me about a Mavericks game. Dustin just kept saying "You calling my brother a liar"...."I think you are"...."I think you are Staci". We all had a good laugh cause he wasn't letting me get a word in. I know Zack loved his brother and Dustin was his hero. I loved Dustin too, even though I didn't have much time with him. He is and always will be very special to my heart.

My prayers, heart, and love go out to Zack, David and Margaret. May he Rest In Peace.

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Dustin Wakeman. May the good LORD comfort and keep you in your time of sorrow. Know that Dustin rests with Jesus now and you will see him again. For now, hold close to the memories of this brave young soldier, son, and friend. He left this earth for the most honorable of all causes-freedom for our country. May he now rest in beautiful and blessed peace. A friend in Christ Jesus.

Please accept our heart felt condolences for your family at this time. We too live in Everman and are a proud Army family. My husband is currently serving also and we just wanted to reach out and say Thank you for your son’s ultimate sacrifice to this great country. He sounds like my son who joined the Navy for a little discipline factor too. I know the days ahead are going to be hard just hold onto to the memories and the pride that you have in your son’s service to keep this country free.
Again please accept our condolences.
