I served with Tom in Headquarters Company, 2/75 Ranger at Fort Lewis, WA and remember what an outstanding man he was. We have a text string of about 20 of us from that era. With today being Memorial Day 2024, this was sent: "In the sprit of Memorial Day, let´s celebrate Tom Bostick. He was one of the NCOs in the S2 shop when most everyone on this text chain was there. He left 2/75 to go to OCS, was a PL in 1/75, went onto serve in the Cav and was killed in Afghanistan it a pitched fight that resulted in his award of the DSC. Have a great day while remembering the fallen. RLTW, Franks."

I had the great honor of knowing Tommy during his first AIT in 1988 at Ft. Huachuca, Az. Not the strongest, fastest, nor smartest, but he was definitely the best all-around soldier in our cycle. And everyone knew it. Our drill sgt. saw it right away, putting the extra pressure on Tommy to also be a leader. We became great friends, and there were others as well. We were all 18, and the academic rigors of our intel school (96B) made it tough on a bunch of raw young soldiers. But Tommy was the right guy for us at the time, as his strong character and perfect sense of humor helped us all to get through. We lost touch once we left Huachuca, but I never forgot him. Thanks Tommy, for being that guy we could all lean on during those tough but exciting times. We are all lucky to have you as a Ranger, and I was lucky to have you as a friend. God Bless you and your family.

It was a honor serving under then Lt. Bostick in 3/75 Rangers. He was a tremendous soul who always brought smiles to us even in the most dier of situations. His relationship with SFC. Garganta was one I always looked at with envy. RIP Lt. Bostick....RLTW.

I knew PFC Bostick ("Bos-tique" to quote our SGM Sanchez) when we were at 75th Rgr Rgt in the late 80s. He was a big goof ball, heart of gold, and a Ranger through and through. He obviously excelled in life, maintaining the Ranger standard to the end. I heard about his passing when I was downrange that summer.

I was heart broken when Kihm told me about the loss of your husband. I never met him, but he seemed like a great guy. Jenn,
I don't even have the words to express how sad I am to learn about Tom. I was just trying to find you on the internet after way too many years when I saw this site. I'm absolutely shocked by the news and really sad that I couldn't be there for you. I was looking through the photos posted here and I can't help but cry. You all look so happy, the girls are so grown up and beautiful! I hope you are all doing well. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that God and time have started to heal your pain. I would love to talk to you, to hear your voice and know that you are doing okay.

Jenn,
I hope you guys are doing well. I guess you heard that one of Tom's Buddies from Ft Benning, Mark Renninger was killed in that shooting in Tacoma. I remembered a funny story about Tom the other day. I just got to the unit in 1991 and met Tom, who was in Ranger school but got kicked out because he went jet skiing!!! He wasn't supposed to leave the area, but did anyways. He ended up going back and of course made it. But we always gave him a hard time and laughed about that.

Jenn and the Bostick Family,
I contacted several Ranger's today about Officer Mark Renninger being killed in Seattle when I was told Tom was also killed in Afghanistan. I was Tom and Mark's boss at 2nd Ranger Bn and wrote Tom's OCS recommendation. I am saddened by your loss and Mark's passing. I know Tom touched many lives and from what I hear, his leadership saved many that day. My sympathies to you and the Renninger family. I will visit his grave in Arlington soon. LTC(R) Dan Sullivan

To the Bostick family,
I knew Tom From the first day he reported to the 75th Ranger Regiment. I worked with him and was his friend. Many years have passed but it seems like it has only been a short time since those days. He was a good friend and wrote to me after I left. I only learned of his death today and am deeply saddened. I will never forget him or the many many times he made me laugh.

To the family of MAJ Tom Bostick,
I knew your husband and father as we graduated Ranger School together in 1991. I was looking up other brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice and came across his name. I only knew him for a while in Ranger School but you can tell a lot about a man in that setting. He was very outgoing and, as you all know, his class picture displayed his zest for life! I will never forget him and I am grateful to your family for the sacrifice.

Jennifer, Jessica and Ashley,
and Bob, and of course Tom's parents,
I never met you; but, I knew Tom and we had several friends in common.
I knew him when he was a SSG (P) and SFC in Huachuca at ANCOC and in Benning at in the LRS Ldrs Crs.
I am a fellow Texan.
While returning to Iraq in 2008 and 2009, I have visited DC / Arlington and thought of Tom.
Tom was an outstanding NCO and soldier; he led by example and lived the Ranger's Creed. I am sure these attributes were partly taught to him by an equally outstanding family. And I am also sure those attributes made him an excellent officer and leader of men in combat.
In our ANCOC class there were three of us with 'wings and berets' and we ensured that we three did everything first and tried to set the example... I tried to pull myself up to Tom's level, he was the best of us and an inspiration... RLTW!
I also saw him during his off duty time at ANCOC and can tell you (something you already know): he was a good and honest man too! He took his marriage vows to heart and truly loved his entire family. He spoke about you often. He was so proud of y'all.
I know he will be watching as this 2nd sad anniversary approaches and helping y'all stay strong and continue the mission!
Your 'mission' now is to live the lives he'd want to see... He wants you to be happy and do as much as you can!
I regret that it took me so long to find this tribute page and tell you how I feel. When I am home in Texas, I sometimes think of going to Llano and trying to see if there is something I can do or say; but, I don't want to intrude.
I was in Baghdad Iraq looking thru the Army Times when I learned of Tom's death. (I am still here today, I retired early after a jump injury and am now trying to support our soldiers as an Intel contractor.)
When I saw the photo I froze, and then I saw the Cpt's rank and thought...Its not him! ...which always makes me feel like a real jerk, because its still someone's loved one, friend, son, daughter, or parent... Anyway, I then looked at the name and realized Tom had said something about OCS...
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers - from now until the end of days - shall never be forgotten." and
Major Thomas Bostick Jr. will NOT be forgotten!
Randy Smith, SFC USA (Retired)
Central Texas is Home...
But, since JAN 2006, Iraq is where I've beenworking...AND, if I can keep my broken body in the game a bit longer, I hope to spend 6 months or a year in Afghanistan trying to pay a debt to friends like Tom who fell there as well. And when I get there I will try to visit FOB Bostick and say a little prayer to Tom.
Please always remember that many of us knew and respected Tom and considered him a great man and good friend.
I am sure he is up in Heaven with the Big Ranger in the Sky!

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I can't express how sorry I am to hear this horrible news. I just learned of it today and am crushed. Tom and I grew up together professionally in the Rangers at both Ft. Lewis and Ft. Benning. I remember well when you were married and the birth of your youngest daughter. I also remember meals at your house and more good times with Tom than I can recount in one brief note. Know that you are in my thoughts.

I was that which others could not be.
I went where others feared to go,
and did what others failed to do.
I asked nothing in return, and readily accepted the thought of eternal loneliness . . . Should I fail.
I have seen the face of terror;
felt the stinging cold of fear;
and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moments love.
I have cried, pained, and hoped . .
But most of all, I have lived times others would say were best forgotten.
At least I can say I am proud of what I am . . .

I would like to pass my families condolences to yours; it has been a long time since I last saw all of you, since Ft. Benning, when Tom was on Kelly Hill. I will always remember the good times Tom and I had while stationed together at SOCCENT, namely him trying to run me into the ground during PT, and the mentorship he provided to me as a young NCO. Tom was a great all around person and Soldier. I cannot think of any words to ease the pain of your loss, but I would like to pass on to the entire Bostick family as well as Toms parents, Thank You. Thank you for allowing your Son and Husband to be the person that he was, it is because of this that there are Soldiers out there that know what right is and what a true warrior looks like. I am sorry that I did not make it to the funeral to pass this on to you in person, but I am prepping my company to head back to the box. If I can ever be of any assistance to you please let me know and if you are ever around Ft. Bragg please feel free to look me up. I will keep all of you in my prayers and thoughts.

Another Fallen Hero ~
My heart breaks as I sign another guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him. God Bless this soldier and his family who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice. May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in such a difficult time. My deepest condolences and prayers are with the entire family.
We understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marines and families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. You are not alone. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.
I still fly my Marine flag and have my Marine tag and sticker on my vehicles because I'm PROUD of my SON and DAUGHTER, and all the SERVICE MEN and WOMEN out there. We will always be a MARINE. We are proud of you all. “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”

We had the great pleasure of living across the street from Tom, Jenn, Jess, Ashlie, and Skivy-Divy at Ft. Benning, GA (NCO days). This family was and is the definition of a True American Family. The love, support, pride and humor was evident in everything that they did. The accomplishments of this family are remarkable. But the sadness of losing someone so wonderful is over-whelming.
Jenn, I know that your days will be rough and your nights even worse, but you are the kind of woman that inspires the rest of us with your strength, love and support for your family. Tom was, is, and will always be proud of you and his girls. I pray that you, Jess, and Ashlie will find comfort in the memories of times shared with Tom. Know that you have the love and support of a GREAT number of true friends.
If there is ever anything that we can do, please do not hesitate to call. God bless you, the girls, and the rest of Tommy's family. Tom will forever be remember and truly missed.

To the family and unit of Maj. Thomas Bostick...
Our sincere condolences for your loss and America's loss of a great soldier and Commander. We briefly came to know MAJ Bostick through our support organization, but learned much about him in this brief period, he was a caring Commander of his troops and deeply loved by all who knew him. Words are never easy when trying to express what lies in the heart, I lost a brother in Vietnam and know the pain Tom's family, friends and fellow soldiers are feeling but take comfort in knowing Tom will always be with you as my brother and his fallen buddies are with me daily.. I know my brother was there to meet Tom in heaven...

Dear Jenn, Jessica, and Ashlie:
I can't find the words to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I hope that one day it will comfort you to remember how loved and respected Tom was among his troops, and from what I can see, all who knew him. Kevin told me several times that he would be so happy to serve under Tom; from someone who has seen lots of commanders come and go, that is high praise indeed. We have both had great respect for him as a husband and father as well. Jenn: you are my hero. Your grace and strength humbles me. Please know that you are never far from my thoughts and always in my prayers. Here's to not choking on an apple in the mess hall.
Love,
Susann Murray and
SFC Kevin Murray (currently in Afghanistan)

Jen,
I’m destroyed. I have no words that can console you in your loss.
I was just smoking and joking with Tommy’s brother last month.
I’ve been out of contact for 2 weeks and I just found out this morning.
I’m still trying to come to grips with the loss of one of the finest Soldiers I’ve ever known.
Although I haven’t seen you guys in years, I loved Tom like a brother.
I know this loss is inconsolable. But if there is anything you need please do not hesitate to contact Ce or me. You can find me on AKO.
Please accept all my love and sympathy.

Jennifer, Jessica and Ashley,
My condolences and sympathy to you in this time of grief. I only worked with Tom for a short time in the SETAF G-3 Air Shop, but it was one of the best times I've had in my career. Tom was a true professioal who also had an uncanny ability to make the job fun. He told me that you have to take the job seriously but don't take yourself seriously. I received a call from Phil Geiger and we recalled some great memories of working with Tom on airborne operations. My late wife, CW2 Eugenia Emmons, also worked with Tom, Phil and myself and she too had the utmost respect for Tom. He truly left a lasting impression and I am proud to have served with him.
Tom is in His hands now and there is comfort in that. This will be a tough time but hold those memories of Tom close and he will be by your side to see you through this. If there is anything I can do please let me know.

Jennifer,
I can not express how sorry I am for your loss. I was training soldiers in MS. when I heard the news. I had to take a little break and compose myself. Tom had a profound affect in a short time. I can remember all the good times we had at work in the air shop at BDE. in Italy. I called SFC Emmonds and we started talking about Tom and the 60th anniversery of D Day when we all went to Normandy. I also thought about the time you and Tom had me and my family over for dinner. Melissa still makes country fried steak just like Tom made it. Know that if there is anything that you or your family needs let me know.

Last Tuesday I had the honor to meet a soldier from Heidelburg on what is titled the Thanks Tour(he visits people across the country thanking them who have supported him and his soldiers-somehow I think we have that backwards) along with he and his soldiers I have helped support over the last 4 years. I was so delighted to thank another soldier in person and to say I love you. Unfortunately, I will not have the chance next summer to do and say that for Major Bostick. However, I will thank personally as many of the 173rd as possible on behalf of their supporters at books for soldiers.com and this 173rd Mom.
Please, know your sacrifice of your family and friends and that of Major Bostick will not be forgotten. Thank You Major Bostick. I love you.
Grace & Peace

Father we entrust our brother Thomas to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Thomas in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

I wish Tom’s family my condolences. I just found out about his death and remember him in the TOC and commanding his unit during OEF6. He was a great guy and excellent soldier. God Bless you and Tom,
