Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Jason L. Paton US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

It's been so long, but I'm trying to contact Jason's father. Years ago my wife made him a memorial quilt. She passed away last year and in going through her things, I found the quilt. I think she borrowed it from him, but died before she could return it. Please contact me if you know where he is: [email protected].

I remembered Jayson L. Payton back in 2002-2004. He was in HHC 1/502nd and we talked a lot when we were around HHC. He was such a motivated person, he had such drive to be a ranger and the last day I met him was when he just got back from Ranger training. Miss you Jason I had great times and R.I.P. My friend.

Jason, I was just thinking back at the time that Christy and I met you and your family at the desert and I couldnt wait to read all of the wonderful things that people say about you on this site. When I get upset or down and out I try to think what would you do or how would you handle the situation. I cant thank you enough for the short time I knew you and cant wait to meet up again some day with the good Lord himself. Much love......

Hello Paton Family and Friends. My name is Raymond Treat.. I currently work for Qualcomm Government Technologies and have lived here in San Diego my whole life. Today, myself and many of my co-workers volunteered with Wreaths Across America to place Christmas Wreaths on head stones at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.. Of the 88000 markers at the cemetery I had the honor of choosing Jason's..The site is a very beautiful place with a very picturesque view of the ocean..I spent most of my morning in amazement at all the headstones and could only think of all the men and women that have given their "ALL" for this great country..I would like to thank you all for the freedoms that I enjoy today..Freedom paid for by the many hero's like Jason..Merry Christmas Paton Family...

Jason,
I miss you so much. I am so grateful that we got to get see each other one last time. I now know im my heart that it wasn't a coincidence. You were one of the only people that I could just hang with no matter how I looked or what mood I was in, you always made things better. I miss our Wednesday night dinners, I miss your infectious smile, I miss you so much sometimes I break down. The only thing that gives me comfort is knowing that in your life, you had great friends, got to see great places, meet new people, had an awesome family, a great fiance (from what I hear), and knowing that I will one day see you again in heaven. There are few and far between who can say they recieve all this. Prayers and Blessings to your family and friends. I miss and love you with all my heart J.

Jason, I've never met you, but I will someday when I get home to Heaven. When God took you from us, He is gathering His army of Angels. You are now serving among the best there is. God bless you Jason. We'll all be seeing you soon.

This quilt was made in honor of Jason. Included are reproductions of some medals he earned as well as the names of the others that went with him.

Dear Paton and Bilbrey families and Nikki,
Jason sounds like he was a wonderful person, someone who had a true servant's attitude, who would do anything for anyone. That is why he is now a hero, he gave himself to his country. I belong to Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers. We have given out over 3000 prayer shawls since 2007 to families of fallen soldiers. If anyone would like a prayer shawl in honor of Jason, we would be honored to do that. Please contact me with your name and address and how many shawls you would like, and we will do that. It is just our small way of showing our compassion and thanks for Jason's and your ultimate sacrifice. Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you. God Bless.

I am deeply sorry to find out today that Jason had passed away. I was looking for my old team in Iraq on facebook and came across his page. It breaks my heart to think back to my first day in a real unit out of Basic. Spc. Paton was in the scouts and he was in charge of getting me up to speed and teaching me the radio. While in Iraq, he taught me what it means to be a soldier and a leader. I owe alot of who I am today as a soldier to him. Now I am an Army Helicopter Pilot, and I will never foget what he taught me as a young Private. Thank you Jason.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jason, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Staff Sgt. Jason Paton; the loss of your life cannot be measured by any means. May the people that loved and respected you be blessed with healed hearts and wonderful memories. As I have learned, you touched many people in very profound ways; you were a very special man. I wish I could have had the chance to meet the man I heard so many wonderful things about. My heart goes out to your mother and entire family for the loss of a beautiful soul.

January 31, 2008

To Friends and Family,
My name is SSG Radle and I served in Jason's platoon alongside him until August 22, 2007. I would always go to him with any problems that I had and also for my daily entertainment. He was a wonderful person and a great leader. He was well respected among the platoon and it was a very sad day when his life came to an abrupt end. My heart goes out to all that loved him. I miss him very much and will always keep him in my thoughts. He was one of my best friends and I will forever love Jason Paton. Jason, I miss you so much, I can't even say enough words that describes how much I hurt inside every day of my life. I am sorry that such a horrible thing had to happen to you and the rest of our brothers. You will be with me forever, until I see you again.

Paton Family and Friends,
Even though I never met Jason, I did have the honor/pleasure of meeting his Aunt Sherrie(Bremerton WA). She is so proud of Jason and misses him so much. Last year when we first met we talked about Jason being deployed and I mentioned to her that when Jason was coming home to contact the Patriot Guard and they would do an awesome Welcome Home Mission. I am proud to know that the Guard was there for him and the family as they stood the Flag Line to honor an American Hero. Even though I personally was not there, know that in spirit I was and Jason will never be forgotten by this American. Jason thank you for your service, due to your unselfish act we are all safer. I look forward to one day standing next to you as we both stand alongside our Lord.

Kim,
I just don't know what to say. I wish there was something I could say, that would be the right thing to say. I am thinking of you. I am sorry. I am very thankful for Jason fighting for our country. I am sorry. I wonder if you even remember me. Liz Holmberg(Reid) I was your neighbor at wilsey. My brother is Jordan.
One our favorite memories (just keeping it to 1) was when Jason brought up his dirt motorcycle to the field above ted willams pkwy one afternoon, and the boys were determined to teach me to ride a motorcycle, so Jason started it and showed me how to do it and sent me to try by myself... well I gave it my best shot and pulled the handle to give it gas and the motorcycles front wheel flew into the air and the back wheel was rolling fast and im still holding on running behind holding the handle bars all the boys running after me and yelling to me "let go! let go!" I let go and The bike kept going for a sec and then we all just laughed for like 20 mins the boys fell on the ground laughing.
Thank you for Jason, he is a beautiful person. You have a beautiful son.

Although i never had the honor to meet your son Jason Paton, I had the privelage of running accross his burial site at rosecrans today with 2 of my friends, it was very emotional for all of us, and seeing how short of a time this has happened, we were all in awe.

Jason,
Although we only met you twice, John and I felt as though we knew you well. You loved to do the same things we do, ie. going to the river and the desert. We talked of doing those things together, once you married my cousin, Nikki. It sadens us that we will not have those times with you and Nikki, together. You made her so happy. She was so lucky to have a wonderful man like yourself. I know you are probably already watching over her. She will always have a guardian angel. Thank you for being a great solider for our country. Thank you for showing Nikki true love, I know you two will forever be connected. We will always hold a special spot in our family for you. We feel honored to have had you in our lives.

Paton,

You were a truly awesome soldier, I will never forget picking you up on the flight line in Kandahar the day you arived in Afghanistan. You were just eager to leave the line but couldn't, because everybody was fighting over who was going to get you. Well that didn't last long, and you were out kicking butt and doing what you do best. You were a great leader and a great friend. I am sure that God has you in at a strategic overwatch right now where you can still keep watch over your left-behind Joes. "SCOUTS OUT"

How excited we were to have a brother joining our family...not only a brother but one with the same JP initials. Nikki spoke of you often and built up our anticipation of your home-coming, wedding, and future together! We so looked forward to you joining the Palmer Family and making our lives all that more full and blessed. Although our times with you were limited due to your duty in Iraq, we feel as though we knew you very well because no matter where we were, Nikki brought you with her! To those family and friends of SSG Paton I would like to say I am sorry. I learned of his death today while reading the Army Times. He and I served in Afghanistan with HHC 2-35 anti-tank platoon 2nd section. He was motivated and always looking for the next best thing. He spoke many times of his love for riding in the dunes, and his girl. He was a great soldier and friend. He will remain in my memories.

Jason- So many have allready said what we all think of you. You are a GREAT man. It is not very often that one can truly say that from the instant I met someone I have just found a friend that will last forever. Fortunately, I have been blessed. I have known you for four years and although you are younger, I look up to you. My one regret is that I did not know you my entire life. What I will not regret are the talks we had that meant so much to me. Many say that you make them want to be a better man. I have the priveledge of telling everyone that I am now abetter man for knowing you. So I make you this promise, Jason, I will strive to do my very best, and I love you for that.
Thank you Paton's for bringing this shinning light into our lives. There are not enough words to describe how he touched us all, and for that I thank each one of you. God Bless You. Jason, you will be missed.

Jason,

Although I miss you dearly, I am so grateful for your friendship. You are the definition of a true friend and made an impact on those who surrounded you. When you cared for someone, it was sincere and I saw the admiration in the eyes of your family and friends.

I will miss our conversations and all of the good times... I remember one day you saying to me that the best day of your life besides your wedding day would be the day that your kids were born. It just breaks my heart to know that this will never come true; you would have been the best father and husband anyone could have ever hoped for. Like you, Nikki is an amazing girl and I know that she will keep your memory alive.

Jason, we will never forget you and I know that you are in good company. Heaven is a better place now that you are there...

There are no words to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow. I offer you my prayers that in time the pain will ease and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night.
I want to thank Jason for his selfless act of bravery and becoming a member of the armed forces. Though tears can never bring him back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he made and our sorrow at his passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Jason, your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before you, including my grandson Jeremiah Santos, who was killed in Iraq by an IED June 2006.

Jason was my cousin. I loved, no i still love him very much. He was the glue of our family. Whenever he came home the whole family would get together. I remember the last time i heard his voice. He left me a message on my call phone. He said he couldn't wait to come home and celebrate my birthday with me. I was looking forward to that. I love him dearly and alway will.

September 3, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

If ever there was a perfect match, it was Jason & Nikki. I am Nikki's adoring grandmother, and from the moment we saw the two of them together, we knew this was meant to be. We are heartbroken that they will not be sharing their lives together. We loved Jason, even though it was for such a short time, but we will always keep him in our hearts.

My respects go to the Paton family for the loss of a squared-away leader. I knew Jason during our Afghanistan deployment (OEF-5) as we were in the same Platoon and section with Headquarters Company (HHC 2-35INF). I soon learned that Jason was from Poway and I had told him that I grew-up in Fallbrook. We have both attended Palomar College at one point and stories of desert trips made me feel closer to home. I understood that Jason loved to ride fast! He actually convinced me into purchasng my own dirtbike, a CR250R. He said 4-strokes are better but I was sure of a 2-stroke (ECC). Rangers Lead The Way!

I'm sorry for your loss , I know what it is like to loose loved ones while in harms way. I have lost a Nephew in the Army & 2 good friends in the US Marines.
No words can heal the pain , No action can help you through this time of sorrow.
Maybe the fact that your son was loved by his communards in arms & he is respected by all true American for paying the ultimate price will ease your pain a little.

PLEASE accept my condolences

I never had the honor of meeting SSG. Paton. But I did have the honor of riding in the motorcycle escort line to the funeral home & I will be at the services to escort him to his final resting place...

Jason may be gone , But he has not & will not be forgotten. I will carry his name on a dog tag around my neck for the rest of my life.

To the Paton family:
My son worked daily with your son and thought so much of him I am sure the entire division is devastated by this tragedy. My son was honored to help carry your sons casket and has such fond memories. They are all so proud of what they are doing and I don’t think any of us realize the sacrifice they are taking for our country. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

To my cousin Bob,

Bob, our deepest sympathies. While I only met your son once at Carol's wedding, when he was just a boy, I feel that the many notices posted show what a fine job you did raising Jason. It sounds as if he has many of the qualities that I have always admired in you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you my brother.

I will see you Thurs for the beginning of Jason's next great journey.

Jason was a good friend and comrade to our son, Michael, who grieves deeply for him along with his fiancee, Jeanne, and the remaining members of their platoon. We are told that Jason introduced Mike and Jeanne in Hawaii. He was God's angel even then. Although we never met, Jason, you will be in our hearts always.

I have known Jason's father Bob for four years now. We talked often when my son-in-law flew Apaches on two tours in Iraq and of course talked of Jason often.

My wife and I went to dinner w/ Jason and Bob between Jason's second and third tour, and as my wife and I were driving home she said, "That has to be the most magnificent young man I have ever met. It's hard to believe we are blessed to have such men protecting us."

I couldn't have said it any better. Jason and Bob, this old Viet Nam vet loves you both, and my condolences go to all the family. I will think of you every day.

I am writing to offer my condolences to you and your family over the loss of your son Staff Sgt Jason L Paton. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a child.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

To Jason Paton's parents,
I met Jason as a friend of my daughter, Odessa, and her husband, Nigel. Jason was a true friend. He sat with us for hours that turned to days awaiting the birth of their first son. A true friend. Jason was always there. I told him once I would like to meet his parents. I wanted to meet the people that raised such an awsome young man. I still feel that way. Jason gave everybody he met a little piece of him. He had so much to give.

The world is not a better place without him.

Jason was my soon to be son-in-law. He was a wonderful, kind, loving man, that was the love of Nikki's life. They were to have been married, less than 3 months in San Diego. Jason loved his family, his friends and his beloved Nikki. He will be forever in our hearts, as he has left his mark upon many of us. He is our "hero". We love you Jason and all that you stand for. Pray God that time helps to heal these deep wounds.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Staff Sgt. Paton. I just sat down to read the North County Times which covered my cousins funeral yesterday in Poway. Right next to his picture mentioned a Poway soldier died in Iraq. I remember Jason from high school. We wrestled together. This really hits close to home now. Jason and my cousin were brave and courageous men. They paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and their country. God bless them.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
