Flags are waving
People are cheering
"They're back!
They're back!"
Soldiers smiling at the crowds,
Families so glad their Heroes are back!
On the side stands a young family,
Tears in their eyes
As they remember their Hero,
One who did not make it home--
One who gave the greatest of sacrifices.
They are the ones who built this country,
Our Heroes and their families,
They are the strength that helped us carry on
When we thought all was lost.
They are God's blessing to us,
His Special Messengers sent to give us hope,
Our reminders of what sacrifices we are willing to give
To keep this Great Land free.
This young Soldier now walks with God and all His angels.
He is above looking down on those he loves
Hoping we won't forget his sacrifice and the price his family has paid.
Hoping we will remember him and those he left behind.
God bless our Hero
And God bless his family.
Thank you for giving us
his service to our Land.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jarred, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Thanks, for the responses and thoughts regarding the loss of our Hero solider. SSG Jarred Fontenot was a simple man who had the most wonderful smile. It is one year today since we learned of his death in Baghdad Iraq. Even a year later the pain is as strong as it was a year ago when we received the word Jarred was no longer with us. His loss will never be forgotten by our family. His presence can never be replaced in our lives. A year ago our lives changed forever a bright light went out that shined on our family. His mission on earth was completed and God called our Hero Jarred home. Jarred died serving a great nation helping others as he usually did either in Iraq or the USA it didn’t matter he protected and helped everyone he met. He never met a stranger and took pride in makings sure other people were safe. SSG Jarred Fontenot was serving the end of his extended second tour in Iraq when he was taking to heaven by god.
Jarred we love you and miss you son. I know you are watching over us all from heaven. Though your life on this earth is over and ended way too soon, I know you are with us every day living in our hearts and memories. One day we will be with you again when our lives on earth is complete like your own.
You became a grandfather this year as your oldest son became a father. Your baby daughter Macy started school for her first time this year and she loves school. Logan and Mason are in school together now and becoming little men just like their daddy. You probably already know these things, and I can see your grin with pride of all of your children. I found myself counting the months and then this week the days, since you left us a year ago. I know you're home with our lord and savior. Know you will never be forgotten Jarred!
I Love you, Mom

Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I just learned of Jarred's death and I was overwhelmed with grief that the world has lost such a great person. I was stationed with Jarred at Camp Casey Korea back in 1996-97 with the 2/9th Inf. We were both on the same BFV Charlie 33. He made my time in Korea bearable eating home cooked meals at his place off post. Although I had not seen Jarred in more then a decade I often thought of him and decided to look him up and to my shock learned of his death. He was a better soldier then I. The photo is of me and Jarred on North Carolina Range somewhere in the "ROK". I will pray for your family. Rest in peace buddy. Charlie 33 Delta Out.

I served with SSG Fontenot in Iraq (2-156 IN 256 BCT). Many nights he stoped by the motor pool for my mechanics to look at his vehicle and to talk. The last time I saw him was in Abbeville La turning in his gear to go to Ft Carson Colorado. He had his boy's with him and his smile was big as always. Only if I knew it would be the last time I'd see him, I would of told him thanks for stopping at the motor pool and for the laughs. We lost a great soldier, father, husband and friend. Thanks Jarred

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.

To the family and parents of Jarred, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many question as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There are no right or wrong ways to grieve, it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

Jarred was in my platoon in Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 156th Infantry, 256th IBCT in Breaux Bridge prior to our first deployment. He was always a reliable and tough NCO, very concerned for the welfare of his soldiers, and an all-around great guy. Once in Iraq, I saw him from time to time, and he was always positive, regardless of what was going on around him. He and his family will be in my prayers, and I will never forget this great soldier, father, and friend. God Bless You, SSG Fontenot.

It seems more than mere coincidence that Sgt. Fontenot died the same day and in the same manner as the son of my hometown friends. Even if it is coincidence, please know how sorry I am for his passing. Losing a loved one has shifted the paradigm, so much so, that we no longer feel anguish for the one, but for the whole. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, [email protected] where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.
