Josh,

I grew up with Josh and was overseas when he passed. I remember going through middle school and high school. Between josh, Tony, Harsey and myself it was some of the best years. Josh is and always will be an amazing friend. I miss you buddy.

To the family of PFC. Joshua R. Anderson:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also to let the Anderson Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in Afghanistan. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I graduated high school with Josh 6 yrs ago. Time flies and you lose touch with so many people. But you never forget them. Josh was my friend and comrade in arms. Although we serve in different branches we're still fighting the same war. I am proud to call him "brother." He served honorably and paid the ultimate sacrafice.

A couple months ago I was down in San Antonio sitting at Durty Nelly's down at the River Walk. It's a piano bar, and that night every branch of service was represented. The piano man began to play each branches song as well as The Star Spangeled Banner, God Bless the USA, and a few others. I couldn't stop thinking about everyone that had given their life in our fight for freedom, especially Josh. I broke down and cried while I sang each song about our Country.

They will never be forgotten.

Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “The Price of Freedom” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Sat. 24 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sun. 25 May, a “PrayerVigil for Peace” will be held. You are invited to stop by and light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one’s cross in the Memorial Garden, then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

Dear Sweet Lynn and Family

My broken heart is with you all as I too know the pain and wish I could take it away but can not.

As another mother wrote in a earler entry in Josh's wonderful guest book, we now belong to a group we never wonted to belong to, now we have to hold each other up in support, love and prayer and you will inturn help the next broken heart as those of us before you, so that our sons and daughters lifes will not be forgoten or lessen by the world.

Know that Josh is a wonderful person and has made life better for others.

Stay stong and know there are other here for you always that we will be together someday when it is our time to be once again with our Fallen Hero.

Hold each other close and keep your eyes on the Lord even when it is hard to do.

To the Anderson family,
I know words could never fill the hole in our hearts josh left when he was taken from us. The memory of josh will never fade from the soldiers of Bushmaster troop. I will always remember the smile he always carried with him no matter how bad or hard things got at work. He always kept our morale and spirits up. Once again, my heart goes out to you.

To the Anderson family,

I know at this time there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Joshuas' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

Hannah, Savannah, Doc's family,
Doc was one of my best friends in the platoon. I don't think I could have gotten threw our first couple of months in this place without him. He was always there for me...whether it was to share a cigarette, share knowledge, or share complaints. He will be sorely missed. We are all better people for having known him. He was a man whose kindness knew no limits. I am so sorry for your loss, and know that I share your grief.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I do know what you are feeling Hannah, see I lost my husband to the VN war, when my baby was just 5 mos old.I cannot tell you the pain will go away, it will just be easier to go on. Hold that sweet baby of yours and know she is a part of you and your Josh symbol of love. I was so angry for so many yrs, please dont feel that way, I have come to understand now, it took me so many yrs to do that, dont make that mistake, please, life is to short. Some day you will be with Josh again. To the parents, I cannot imagine your pain. Know your son was and is a hero and someday you will all be together again. This is what has kept my sanity for all these yrs that only seems like yesterday. My prayers go out to all of you.

I know Josh because his family was neighbors & friends with my daugher,son-in-law & 3 grandsons, I remember the boys growing up & playing together, being boys was what they were all about.
Josh always had this cute impish grin on his face like, "you better look out I just might do something you aren't going to like, but then again maybe not...
Then he grew up & one of the last times I saw him he was married & had a beautiful little girl. I told him I was impressed with what a fine young man he had become.
I know how proud his family was when he joined the army,Lynn was so excited to be able to visit him at camp, and spend time with him before he went to Iraq.
We don't understand Gods reason for taking him so soon, we will just have to trust in our faith & know that Josh is now with God, forever happy & content. He probably still has that impish grin on his face as he watches over family & friends.
May God bless & keep safe all the men & women that give so much of their lives for our continued freedom.
One just doesn't understand the impact of the war until one goes to a funeral of a young soldier, a soldier that gave his all for us..
GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!

I wish that I could offer some words that could ease the pain of such a sad loss of a very brave soldier. I, as a wife of a fellow 6-8 Cav soldier who is also deployed in Iraq at this time, feel as though I have lost a family member myself. I want you to know that his selflessness and service to others has touched me in such a way that I will teach my child to be more caring and giving. I know that Joshua has inspired many others as well, and he will live on forever through the lives that he has changed. May God be with your family during this very difficult time.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Private First Class Anderson. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!

Please accept my deepest sympathies.I was Josh's YouthBuild Instructor from CSEC. Josh was one the most determined and focused students I have worked with. Josh was a great person and he will be missed by many.

There is nothing I can say that can take your pain away, though I wish there was. Hold your little girl closely and find comfort in knowing that Josh left his greastest accomplishment here with you. He made a huge unselfish sacrafice for not only your family but for my family and the entire country. Because of him (and many other men and women still over there fighting) the world is a safer place for me to raise my kids. There is no words in the world that I could ever say that would show you and your family how truly thankful I am that there is a man like Josh that was willing to sacrafice his life for a better world. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for you to find comfort in your memories of Josh and knowing what a TRUE HERO HE IS.
REST IN PEACE JOSH, AND MAY YOUR FAMILY FIND PEACE IN KNOWING YOU ARE SAFE AND NO HARM CAN COME TO YOU ANTYMORE.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
