To the family of Spc. Gregory B. Rundell:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,

The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rundell Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

There is not a day that goes by I don't think of Greg. He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was a good friend who was willing to give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. March 26, 2008 was one of the worst days of my life. I miss him so much. I was a pleasure serving with Greg. I just pray that he knew what a difference he made in everyones life who loved him. Dear Family;
Project Compassion is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Artist, founder and President; Kaziah Hancock will be coming to Minnesota in a few months, approximately March 2010. She has been asked by one of your local media agencies to attend an event to honor our Country and the State of Minnesota’s fallen soldiers/heroes. We would be truly honored for the opportunity to paint a portrait of your hero to present it to you and your family. If you have already received a portrait of your hero from us, please keep in mind that we have been approved by our sponsors to paint a second portrait of each soldier as long as it is requested in behalf of the heroes Mother, Father and/or spouse. We only paint these 100% free to the families because of our sponsors. Please visit www.heropaintings.com or contact me directly at [email protected]. We would be truly honored to have a chance to learn more about each of these fine soldiers, our modern day heroes!
Very sincerely,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Gregory, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Kyle, Tammy told us about this opportunity to express our sympathies. We never met Greg but in reading what others have written about him, he was a Great American! Our prayers and thanks go to you and your family. My brother served in the army in Viet Nam. I know the worry of a soldier's family. May God hold Gregory in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

To the family of Greg,
In the past two months this same site has offered so much support for our family as we have grieved the loss of our Fallen Hero. Our family hoped that it would be a very long time before we were offering our deepest condolences to another family left in the grief and sadness of losing their Hero. Today as you say farewell to Greg our thoughts and prayers are with you, surrounding you and embracing you. May you find some comfort and peace in the days ahead as you mourn for your Hero.
May God be with you,
The family of SFC. Matthew Kahler

To the family and parents of Gregory I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many question as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There are no right or wrong ways to grieve, it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

Dear Family of Greg Rundell,
It was over a year ago that I met Greg. My Fiance went to basic with him and they were both lucky to be stationed in Hawaii. All three of us would joke around often about all being from MN and living in HI. I feel honored and privileged to have been Greg's friend during his 2+ years in Hawaii. I attended his service on base yesterday and my regards go out to your family. He was a great friend and my Fiance valued him as a wonderful soldier as well. Each day we will strive to honor him through our words and actions. God Bless.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Gregory Rundell. My father died from a war inflicted injury when he was 38 years old and I was 15. I think about him often wondering how our relationship would be today had he survived his wound. I can only say to the family "you will never forget". Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. May the Lord embrace you.

It is always sad to hear of a young man giving his life for his country, yet he as well as you or I voluntarily joined with the foreknowledge this could possibly be the outcome. None of us goes into battle seeking to die, being aware it could come to be.
I once asked my Platoon Cmdr. what my duty was when in battle and he responed in this way; "It is not for you to go into battle to die for your country, but rather make the other guy die for his."
I asked a good friend of mine who had seen action in Vietnam and asked of him what makes a true hero, and he simply said; "They are the ones who don't come home."
We are fightin over there so we do not have attacks taking place here and this article exemptlifies what a great loss this young mans life was considering he went there for such as these!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

As the father of an Iraq Veteran and as a Vietnam Veteran myself, I truly do thank you and your family for his service. May you find peace. You also will be forever in my prayers.
