Gregory Unruh Obituary

On Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Gregory D. Unruh, 28, an Army sergeant, made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, his family and his friends. Gregory was deployed to Iraq with the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, and was killed while on a reconnaissance mission.
Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Forest Park Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Gregory’s name to the Fisher House at www.FisherHouse.org.
Gregory was a soldier, a "Warrior" and so much more: a husband, a son and a brother. He loved life, his wife and family while living his life to make the world a better place. His strong, quiet personality was an inspiration to both his comrades and family. He had a wonderful heart and was unable to sit by without supporting his country.

Gregory graduated from high school at the age of 16 and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in May 2004. He worked with his father until he enlisted in the Army in February 2006. He had planned to attend law school and raise a family with his wife after serving his country. The love for his wife and family was insurmountable and unconditional and cannot be diminished by his passing. His comrades will remember "The Professor" for his courageous efforts and loyalty to our country. We are better people for having known and loved Gregory Daniel Unruh. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death his grandmother, Hazel Moore.
Survivors: His loving wife, Nimet; parents, Anthony and Sue Unruh; sister, Tonya Unruh-Manous and husband, Cliff; brothers, Phillip Unruh, Thomas and wife, Denise, and Jeremy and wife, Tiffany; nephew, Conner Unruh; mother-in-law, Hatice Seven; brother-in-law, Huseyin Seven; sister-in-law, Demet Townsend; grandparents, Calvin Moore and Arline and Neva Unruh; and many other loving relatives and friends.

I came home from work today to find an American flag and picture of Sgt. Unruh on the post at the end of my lane in King George, Va., left by the runners every mile. I have a new hero along with Nick Mason of King George. Nick lost his life in Mosul. Thanks for your sacrifice Gregory Unruh. You are a great American.

Gregory is a Hero yesterday, today and tomorrow........always now.

The man with a heart, love for his fellow man, his country loving husband and son and so very much more. Our world is better for his being here, his service to his beliefs.......and thank you is too small a word to comfort you, but it is all I seem to be able to come up with at this moment.

To you, Gregory's family, I pray for light each day, warmth in your heart as you are reminded of him. May each of your new days pass with the knowledge that he was an extraordinary man and that he leaves a far larger legacy than many people who lived for many more years.

God bless you all and keep you, give you comfort in your days of grief.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

Since my only child, son Sean is a Marine on Active Duty, my thoughts and prayers are with these young men and women every day.

I BELIEVE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SUPPORT THE WAR, BUT IT IS YOUR DUTY AS AN AMERICAN TO SUPPORT OUR MILITARY.

I am extremely sorry for your loss. I know you must be very proud of the fact that your son was giving of himself by being in the Military, as so many people in the U.S. don't even understand the sacrifice these young people are giving. I have come to the realization that if I were to lose my son to this War, then I would be even prouder of him, FOR IT IS WHAT HE WANTED TO DO. He who lay down his life for our Country deserves the most respect a human being can be given. I truly respect this young man for his, and your, sacrifice. Thank you for that.

May God shine his love and light on you and yours as you sort through this difficult time. I will be praying that He guide you through this with gentle and loving hands. Amen.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, to learn of the loss of Sgt. Gregory D. Unruh, the Price this Brave Young Soldier and his family have paid for this country and for freedom, Will Never Be Forgotten.

May Gregory rest safely now, in the Loving Care of God and may God's Healing Grace be with the Unruh family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam, in 1967.

"I consider that our present sufferings.
are not worth comparing with the glory
that shall be revealed in us."
~ Romans 8:18 ~

May the Peace of God and your treasured memories of Gregory, remain in your heart always and give you comfort and strength through the difficult days ahead.
You are in my thoughts and my prayers.
