I remember meeting Jonathan when he was about 4 or 5. I last saw him at my dear friend Jolie's home just months before his tragic fate. Jonathan, I'm so proud to know you. You are the only person I've known to die for our country. I will always remember you and honor you.
Yolanda, my dear friend, my heart aches for you. I love you, sis.
Rest in peace Jonathan. You are a hero to us all.
Love you,

Vega,
I miss you bro. I promised you at Ellsworth that I would do everything in my power to ensure you had aircover. Everyday of my life I regret breaking that promise to you. Your convoy was our mission that day. It was my aircraft that was assigned the mission. It broke and I could not get it fixed in time. I was calling the shots on my aircraft and I failed you. I regret every part of that day. You were an awesome man and brother. With a heavy heart, I miss you bro. I am sorry.

I met Jonathan "Jake" Yelner the first day he arrived at our squadron in South Dakota. I ended up training him how to load bombs as I was an instructor shortly thereafter. I found his passing VERY depressing, as I was shown the article and pictures in People magazine by friends and family. Every year when 9/11 rolls around I think about and pray for all of my friends and fellow Airmen, past and present. GOD BLESS THE USA! We miss ya "Jake!" May God be with your family and friends...as you're sitting at his side! Love ya brother! If any of your friends or family members would like to contact me, they can find me on Facebook...I'll be the Travis Jackson from Gainesville, Texas.

To the Yelner family:
As I sit here reading about your son, I'm not surprised of the words from friends and family that I read. He is described as "a man I always thought of with integrity and class" "class act", but the words that are most true are "HERO". My son was with Jonathan when he was killed. My son told me that he volunteered for the mission, and greatly admired him. I pray that my message brings pride and not pain. That is my intent. He was more than the words hero, he IS a true American HERO!
No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you.

Jake, together we served in training at Ft. Bragg and then over in Afghanistan. It was very hard being a 40 year old female medic deploying with kids half my age.
You made me smile during those long cold days of training and our first couple of months in Afghanistan.
Thanks for talking with me for hours about World of Warcraft. It really helped me through the one of the roughest times of my life.
I still miss you and think abuot you often. I pray you are at peace.

I went to techschool with yelner. He was a awesome guy to talk to. I would talk about video games here and there and he would say which ones were his favs. I knew him pretty good till we got orders to different bases. It makes me sad to find this out . I remember all those times we were off duty and he would wear these tight jeans hehe. I used to joke around with him about it. But i didnt mean anything harmful just some jokes with him to get a smile or a laugh. I know he liked to play pool on the weekends with me and the other guys from our class. He was class leader for awhile too. But all an all he was a good guy and him being gone now makes me feel more sad that he is gone at such a early age. I know ur family loves u and will always remember u Yelner. Sorry that happen to ya guy. Hopefully Tractor and swartz find this so they can say some words for your family and close friends like us.

Deep sincere respect goes to the family of a man I considered a dear friend and a brother. I myself was away on a deployment and luckily by Gods grace have just returned home and was informed of his passing. I always held close the times we spent together just being who we are...no one to impress, no one to pass their opinions on us, and no one but us singing off key in the rest stop latreens. *smiles* Vega is someone that will always be in my heart and will forever keep as an inspiration not only to myself but to others who need a helping hand when they are struggling.

I had the privelege of serving with Yelner at Ellsworth. Many days go by that we take for granted those we work with. Often times we dont appreciate those until they are no longer there. Yelner was a person that was always pleasant to speak to and listen to. He will be sorely missed and is among many friends and colleagues that will be forever remembered. He is a Hero and deserves the respect and attention his selfless sacrifice demonstrated. I pause every night when taps is played in respect and rememberance for those that have gone before... You will not be forgotten.
To the family, it is truly an honor to have troops like Vega that look up to us that lead them, but let it be known that the honor is ours to look up to them once in a while. My most sincerest condolences and best wishes to the family.

Last time I spoke to Vega was in March. He had called Chris and Jamie Zendenny's place, while I was there. He said he liked what he was doing in Afganistan, and had wanted to see Chris and Jamie's baby. He also told me that I still owed him a case a Corona's because I was TDY during chrismass when he left. I told him that I'd stuff the beer in the trunk of his Mustang for him when he got back because I would be PCS'ed to Germany when he got back.
The things I'll miss about Vega are: The memories of the good times we had, our mutual enjoyment of Corona with lime, His tendency to allways buy and tip excessively, The DnD games, WoW, his crazy girl friends, and raceing (and losing) to his blue 07 Mustang GT, with my blue 97 Cadi Eldorado.
Vega was a good friend to all who know him well, and he will be missed.

On July 6 I will attend a ceremony dedicating a dining facility to Jonathan at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. I didn't work with Jon, but knew of him. Like him, I'm an Air Force Weapons Troop. Those who knew him were impressed by his drive and his belief in this struggle. He could have been taking things easy at Ellsworth Air Force Base, and been hiking and fishing in the Black Hills, but he wanted to contribute in this war.
As a father myself, I can only begin to imagine your pain. I hope you can find some comfort in knowing Jon's sacrifice will not be forgotten, and the way he lived his life will be an enduring example for his fellow warriors.

To the family and parents of Jonathan I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

IN LOVING MEMORIES:
Vega, you will be missed. I remember the day that i meet you i was in the dorms and you where at your car your smiling face said it all. My friends and i started to talk to you and it was great. I found out you were from the same state(CA). The next thing i knew was i was saying goodbye for you were deploying and i knew why. You came home 6 months later and we talked and i was amazed for the next thing you told me you were going again and this time it would be for longer. I remember the day i said goodbye standing in the hall way of the med group just you and i. I couldn't believe it when i was told you were gone. I just sat there in awe. I told myself it couldn't be that you would come home. Home is where you are now. You are in my mind daily everywhere i look i see you smiling that smile of yours. You took a fall but you are flying high now. Thank you for watching over me as my day goes by. I know you are in heave looking down each day. You will be missed till the day that i get to see you on the other side.

I served with Yelner at Ali AB in Iraq back in 2006. He always came in to my shop (rec tent) to make morale calls. He was a very good kid. I got to Afghanistan just a week after he was killed. I didn't even get a chance to say anything to him. Is there an mailing address to the family of Yelner? May him rest in peace... I will always miss you buddy.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

We were amazed but not surprised by your loving eloquent tribute to Jake at his services. You made it all ok for us,to grieve, and to be strong at the same time. You are a loving, strong family, who whethers any storm with grace, and strength. We are saddened by your loss, and the loss to our community, and we want you to know that we will all be here for you in the days, weeks, or months to come. To the Yelner family,
I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Jonathans' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.
...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

Jolie,
I am so saddened and sorry to hear about Jake. Although I have not seen you or your family in a few years, I never forgot about Jake or how we used to dance together as little kids at your New Years parties. At the end of every song he would kiss my hand and thank me for the dance...always such a gentleman. I will always cherish those memories of him, and everyone who knew him was blessed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Yoli and Mathew,
We are so pleased we were able to get to know your wonderful Jonathan at Easter dinner. The stories you told with such love and expression made us feel like he was at the dinner table with us.
We feel your loss. It is a pain so deep and at times seems unbearable. Please know we are here for you any time of the day or night.
May God bless you and watch over you.

Father we entrust our brother Jonathan to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Jonathan in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

Jolie, Christine and I express our deepest condolences for your lost. I did attend the service and saw you in the Jaguar going to the internment. You were mobbed by well-wishers so I just wished you a personal prayer while I saw you driven away. What a lovely tribute you expressed via his Eagle Scout speech.

Jonathan -- you will always be remembered by those who loved and respected you. You packed a lot into your all-too-short lifetime. Yet, you served your country with honor and distinction, and the world with your ultimate sacrifice. Words will never capture how much you will be missed.
"Zichrono livracha" -- may his memory be a source of blessing, and may our love and memories of this fine man bring us peace.

Dear Jolie, Bruce & Max,
We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Jake's death. We have so many fond memories of our years at St. P's and De La Salle and of the seven boys who shared those years together, including Jake and our son, Martin. We watched Jake grow up from the little boy who retrieved the errant dodge balls for me when I was on yard duty, to the young man with the big smile who posed so proudly with his mom at the Mother Son Brunch at De La Salle. Jolie, we can only imagine the loss you feel today. Please know that our prayers are with you and that we hold all of you in our hearts. We will always remember Jake and we will miss him.
With our deepest sympathy,
Maureen and Martin Biro
