Andre a year has passed since you were promoted to heaven's gate and I know that your family and friends haven't forgotten you. As a Gold Star Mother I want your parents and friends to know that the death of a child you never get over. I would continue to ask God to give comfort to your family. Your picture shows a handsome young man who gave his all and you will be forever remembered.

Your parents aren't alone and there are many who are there for them. If they ever want to talk to others who have gone through the death of a child or loved one in active duty please do contact me.

May God continue to provide His love and comfort to your family and friends.

To the McNair family this all feels like yesterday to us still when we receive the news of the passing of your son and Mr. Carter. Know that he will never be forgotten. I have heard so many great things about your son and know that he was a well mannered man who loved and cherish his family. Know that he will smiling down on us with that beautiful smile of his..he is now our Angel doing what he wanted to do here on earth. Mr. Carter mentoring of your son showed us that McNair knew what he wanted out of life. I am a dear friend of the Carters and I want you to know that we will never forget our fallen Hero. It's still heard for us and has we prepare to depart again for AFGHAN in that location where we lost them both; we know they both will be there with us. I remember McNair letting me he too was from Florida with that short conversation and that wonderful smile will live on with me forever. Mr and Mrs McNair as the year move close to when we farewell both James Carter and Andre know that your faith in GOD will strenghten you. We all miss Andre and B Co 96th will never be the same without him.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Andre, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Andre "Big-Head" McNair...

Where do I start? Well, let me first start by saying that I am DEEPLY sorry to hear of your passsing and am still in disbelief. The last time I was as moved in the death of a friend was when we lost Tayda Bread. That was my friend and cousin and it HURT like you'd never know. He and U were just like one of those people that just WEREN'T supposed to die because ur hearts were of gold and could light up any room. Sounds crazy coming from the girl that used to beat you up in Mr. Bogenrief class, huh? Yeah, its in me bro but u and I both kno, it was all outta fun.

The hurt that I felt when TB died resurfaced when we, as a class, visited ur home and I saw the pain in your mother's eyes and although the tears were so small, how much weight they carried. She was really hurt and made it PRETTY difficult for me to be around much longer. I was ready to leave almost immediately. You don't know how bad I wanted to welcome her with arms bigger than Godz and hug all the pain away becuz I know/ knew there was no bringing you back and besides, this place is too ratchet for a gentle person like you anyway. I just wish you could have stayed a bit longer and fulfilled all ur dreams but I guess God had other plans for you and gave you your hearts desire and thats the chance to fly...

Fly on Jay Bird... God gave U Ur Wingz, Just Wish U Woulda Waited 2 Spread Em N Fly!!!

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

Wow, McNair I can't believe your gone. You were one of the first friends I met when I got to the unit. In the barracks we are like family and when I heard about this it was like losing a brother. I think of you and your family on a daily basis and I think about all the fun times. I miss you. 96 ASB nor the Barracks will ever be the same. I remember when you and other friends from the barracks went home with me and we rode four wheelers and ate the Thanksgiving Dinner my mom made. You were dating my friend and I was really happy for the two of you. Theres just so many fun times and I will never forget them. Mr. and Mrs. McNair your son was a great soldier and friend. Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

To the family and parents of Andre I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

June 25, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Every person whose name appears on this site is a Hero, but I'm very mindful that each individual man or woman was someone's precious child, so today, as I sign this memorial page, I'm thinking of the parents and family of this very young and courageous soldier, hoping that they will find some comfort from the love and support that surrounds them - and that in times ahead they will find sunshine in which to share their precious memories with one another.

Rest in Peace Spc. Andre McNair and may God bless you, your family and your Country.

Father we entrust our brother Andre to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Andre in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Spc Andre McNair our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Andre. And to Andre it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Andre, you are a true Warrior, a brave Patriot and our Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,385 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Andre’s family and loved ones.

My man A-Mac,
Im so upset with you for leaving us the way you did. You just don't know how hard the class took it when we found out. We always knew we were a special class, we had a bond like no other..it truely feels like I lost a brotha. Your constantly on my mind, I remember to vividly of the good times at Westwood. Especially in the mornings when you use to ask me whether or not you looked good, n I would honestly tell you if u didnt..lol! U would just smile at me and give me a big hug..like I just gave u the best compliment in the world. These people just dont know what a pure soul u had,I honestly hate that it was ur time. I wish I had the opportunity to see u one more time to tell u..u always looked handsome and sharp, not because of ur clothes or shoes but because of ur beautiful smile and ur love of life! U walked the hallways everyday like u never had a bad day n u gave me a warm feeling everytime I was in ur presence. The class of 06 is with u my love and ur in our hearts, I know u n Dontavious(R.I.P-Oct. 12th 2005) is up there trippin out at us payin these high behind gas prices while yall up there flying around with yall free wings..=)! A grateful Nation thanks you for your service. May peace be in the hearts of those who loved you.

SrA Jessica Clarke, United States Air Force

June 13, 2008

Hello PFC McNair,

I do not know you, have never met you in my life, but I want to thank you. SrA Jessica Clarke, Dover AFB, DE. I deployed to Bagram Afghanistan last summer, and am back now, but I never stop praying for all the Soldiers, the Marines, the Seaman, the Airman, the joint services helping us in this war that is taking EXTREMELY TOO LONG to end. As an American Warrior, you never stop being scared, no matter what branch. There's never a time that you don't think to give up. There's always that thought "What am I doing", but you and every other fallen comrade are why I still serve with pride. I love this great country, but I know longer do it for them. I serve PROUDLY because you fought and you have now fallen, PROUDLY. It hurts to know you and others are so young, haven't even made it to that glorious age of "21" as I haven't either, and you are being laid to rest. I LOVE YOU for your sacrifice. To all of my fellow service members, I keep you in my thoughts and prayers, and I THANK YOU for what you do for me as well as our country.

Mr. and Mrs. McNair,

I have no idea of how to even began to address you. I often think of if anything ever happens to me while I'm serving, what could be said to my family to ease their pain. There are no words that can express how sorry I am for your lose, so I'm just going to say what's in my heart. Sir/Ma'am, you know that I'm in the Air Force, but you don't know that I am an African American 20 year old from West Palm Beach, Florida that wants to almost break down every time my family looks me in the eye and tells me how proud they are of me. I have been places and seen things and to this day am still not as proud of myself from any of my accomplishments than I am of serving for my country. To know that I am another afro-american doing whats right for her and her peers, it's overwhelming. Think of how proud this makes me feel. Now think of your son, and his thoughts at the end of the day, no matter how much grief he faced. Please think of his sacrifrice, think of that grin on his face knowing he doing what's right. No, it is not ok that he died, but it is INCREDIBLE (for lack of better words) that yet another one of our African American men have sacrificed his life for something positive, something that our entire country values so much, FREEDOM. You too do not have to cry because all of America is doing it for you. I LOVE YOU for bringing such a strong and brave individual into this world, and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. If you would ever like to contact me, my email address is [email protected]. Sorry for your loss. McNair, rest peacefully dude!

I understand your pain is undefinable, but at the same time my wife and I share the pride you feel in your son as a soldier and as a man. We are certain he will be missed, yet loved for eternity. We are the parents of a West Point graduate, currently an Army captain, who has twice served in Iraq. Even though we never met your son we are nonetheless extremely proud of him, and eternally grateful for his sacrifice, which shall not be in vein; he lives forever in the heart of a grateful nation.

When I heard the news of your son passing it hurt me. However, my heart became glad as I watched the both of you (his parents) talk about how much he loved what he did and how proud you all were of him. I believe that God will comfort your hearts and give you his peace. My prayers go out for you as well as my heart. Let the tears flow they have a way of watering the grounds of our hearts and bringing forth healing. When the healing comes take it to those who will need your touch and your miraculous testimony of how God brought you through. I can say with a surety that he will becuase he did it for me. Be blessed and God will sustain you.
