Ryan Connolly Obituary

Ryan James Connolly, Sgt., U.S. Army, died while serving in Afghanistan on June 24, 2008, at the age of 24.

Dearly beloved husband of Stefanie Connolly of Stegaurach, Germany. Loving father of Kayla Claire Connolly of Stegaurach, Germany. Adored son of Jim Connolly and his fianc\é Cindi Carrillo of Santa Rosa, and Robin Nelson and her husband Bob of Vacaville. Dear brother of Mike Connolly of Santa Rosa and Kelly Connolly of San Francisco. Adored grandson of Monetta

Connolly and the late Patrick Connolly, and Alfred Luhks and the late Jane Luhks.

Ryan is also survived by numerous cousins.

A graduate of Piner High School, Ryan was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant while on tour in Afghanistan. He enjoyed all things mechanical, including working on cars and motorcycles. While in Afghanistan, Ryan rebuilt an old Soviet motorcycle in order to ride around camp. A fan of NASCAR, when he was 12, Ryan and a friend were able to meet his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon, at a local paint store and have lunch with him. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hiking and jet skiing. His friends will always remember him as having a quick smile, and someone who loved working on cars and anything with an engine. A true patriot, Ryan loved his country, and while in Afghanistan, he re-enlisted for another two years.

Friends are invited to celebrate a Funeral Mass on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 398 10th Street, Santa Rosa. Interment will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses on Sunday, July 6, 2008, from 1 to 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Ryan may be made to the Ryan Connolly Trust Fund, c/o Washington Mutual Bank, 835 4th

Ryan, I miss you every-day. Bob misses you every day. We love you and think about you all the time. I am so proud of you and Stefi and Kayla are so proud of you. Kayla looks just like you, she is so smart and a beautiful little girl. I know you are in heaven with God. But there is not a day that goes by that I do not miss you. I wish I could hug you and kiss you. I miss your laugh. Stefi is a very good Mommy, you picked the right one. You will be in our hearts forever and ever. I will see you in heaven some day. You are my beloved hero. I finally got my tatoo, you would like it, it has your dog tags in the Army digital camo, with a special abbreviated code and your information. I had it put on the same arm as your was. Love and kisses, Mom

Love Lives On

Those we love remain with us
for love itself lives on,
and cherished memories never fade
because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
more than a thought apart,
far as long as there is memory,
they'll live on in the heart.

To the parents an friends of Ryan Connolly,

He must have been someone special, because anyone can see how much you all loved and still love him. I love him for giving the greatest sacrifice for me and our country. "Greater love hath no one than this, That he lay down his life for his friends, (John 15-13)" and Ryan, serving our Nation, gave his life protecting people he never even met, people like me. I really hope to see him when I get to heaven, just to thank him.

Ryan...I am thinking of you now. Man, I miss you!! I miss your smile, your sense of humor, your sense of adventure, the sound of your laugh, seeing your number in my cell phone, calling you, talking to you. I miss YOU bro!

I cherish the memory of our very first encounter (Mr. Stevens class; 7th grade). I cherish the memory of "First Night" in downtown Santa Rosa. I cherish the many memories of our first apartment in 'RP'. One of my favorite memories is when we unknowingly, bought the same exact poster for each other for Christmas in the 8th grade (ha).

You are going to be in my memories and my heart, until we meet again, in heaven. I wish you were here man. I am heartbroken thinking that I have to wait to see you again. You were the heart, the main artery of our 'click', you held us all together. We all love and miss you. Six months later and the pain is just as intense. I love you my friend.

Thinking of you now, tomorrow, and until we meet again.

With eternal love, your friend...

Dear family of Spc. Ryan J. Connolly, I am so sorry for the loss of your hero. He was a hero in many ways to many people. He was helping to maintain our freedoms and helping to bring freedoms to those that have never known freedom before. I send many packages to contacts listed at AnySoldier.com. Your Ryan, being a volunteer contact for Any Soldier.com, was an angel to many in the field. He cared enough for his unit to help pass out mail to those who maybe did not receive any or as much mail as others. Helping them to know that they were supported, cared for and prayed for by us at home in the USA. What a true hero. Freedom isn’t free.
Thank you Spc. Ryan J. Connolly. We miss you greatly.
May God’s Holy Spirit grant your family comfort as they progress through grieving for the loss of their very special hero.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Ryan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family of SGT Ryan J. Connolly... My name is SPC Aaron M. Chatham, and Ryan is a dear friend of mine. I was stationed at HHB DIV ARTY in Baumholder Germany, his first duty station. I was the one that introduced him to his wife, Stephie. My wife and her had been friends in Bamberg for quite some time. I loved the positive attitude that your son and my friend always had on life and all situations. He was always talking about his family, and fast cars, and his dream of doing his job as a Combat Medic. It is an honor to know him, and to know what a legacy he has left behind. He will live on my thoughts, and my prayers go out to you in this time.

Dear Ryan,
Words can not express the deep gratitude I feel for your service to our country. You are a true hero in every sense of the word. You are a loving husband and father to Stefi and Kayla. You make Bob and Robin the proudest of parents. You and Kelly will always share that special bond reserved for brothers and sisters that I can feel as well. We have looked up to you in awe and now painfully miss you. Rest in peace, Ryan. May our family heal swiftly, but our memories of you live on forever.

GARY & THERESA BARR

July 10, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Spc. Ryan "Doc" Connolly's Family and Friends,
My deepest sorrow for your loss. My boyfriend was one of the men who was injured and was with "Doc" on that terrible day that we will never forget. I am so sorry for everything that you have gone through and will continue to go through in the coming years without him. My boyfriend, Spc. Adam Hay, was very fond of "Doc" and he will keep him in his thoughts always. God bless him and all of you.

Dear Robin, Bob, Kelley, and family:

I am devestated for your loss. I will always remember Ryan's warm smile. Words fail me when trying to say what is in my heart. I am crushed and heart broken. I was one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to get to know Ryan, albeit, only a little bit. As we approach this great country's birthday, I will be thinking of Ryan, our Patriot. May God bless you all and know that our family's thoughts and prayers are with you.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Connolly Family,
I'm truly sorry for your loss, war is such a tragic way to deal with our differences. Many lives are scattered when we lose loved ones in this manner. It will be nice when the promise in the bible at Psalms 37: 10 & 11 is fullfilled, it talks about a time when wicked will be no more and we will have peace on the earth. I hope that time eases your pain.

Ryan, I remember your smiling face at Piner. You were my daughter Jessica's friend at Comstock as well. I am so sorry for your family's loss. Your eyes were so blue and I remember commenting on them. You were a nice young man. When your daughter grows up she can look me up & I will tell her stories about you in school. May your family's saddness grow less as time passes.Mike be a good uncle to that niece you have.Remember that Ryan was so brave to join the service and then sign up again for another two years how proud this family must always feel. You raised a good boy and he turned out to be a wonderful young man. His picture at Piner will remain on my wall of fame forever. My deepest sympathy to you all. Lorie Wilcox-Student Advisor PHS
