Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Hovater Family know that we just made a small donation to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in honor of Jason D. Hovater US Army Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

We thank all who have written such heartfelt entries in this guest book. Jason was a gift from the throne of God; from his expansive smile that would light up any room or heart, his contageous laughter to his annointed music and song. We love this memorable character. We love the memories of a two year old lad who would make Gerald and I laugh till it hurt!, to a young man accomplished at leading praise and worship and bringing the tangible presence of Our Father who loves us so into any setting touching the lives of friends, loved ones and just whosoever would. "Jayce Dane", we love you, will never forget you, son and do so terribly miss you. Dad and Mom

I hope that it is of some comfort to know that neither my family nor I take one single minute for granted that your son so bravely sacrificed his life for.
Many times during the course of a day, when doing simple tasks or a luxury such as taking my kids to the movies I cannot help but think of our soldiers and their families who allow us the opportunity to live the lifestyle we have become accustom to.
I want you to know that I will always be grateful to Cpl. Jason D. Hovater and your family. In his honor, I will educate my children to do the same.

I did not know Jason. I just read an article in People Magazine tonight that honored our heroes. It touched me so much, and I decided that I wanted to pray for the families of these soldiers.
For some reason, the photo of Jason stood out to me. It stood out enough for me to search for his name on the list to see what state he was from. When I saw he was from TN, I was shocked. That is where I grew up and graduated from UT.
I think one thing that stood out most in his photo was his wedding ring. My heart breaks for his wife & family. I felt compelled to reach out to his family.
When I looked you up on the internet, I was SO blessed to see that not only did Jason know the Lord, but he loved & served the Lord!
I lost my brother (Joseph), who was about six months younger than Jason, on July 24, 2004. That day, my life forever changed.
I guess I just wanted to write to encourage you that God will continue to see you through this. I was thinking of how hard our first Christmas was without my brother, and I know it will be hard for you all, too.
While I miss him more & more, and I have been through such a range of emotions, I can tell God is healing my heart little by little. There were times that my parents & I thought we would never be able to live normal lives again b/c of the pain, but God has sustained us.
Thank you for sharing your son, brother & husband with us. I am praying for you tonight that God will bring you comfort and peace.
In Christ's Love, Lori

Jason Dane Hovater was the bestest friend that anyone could ask for. He was always there for me through the good times and the bad, and was always willing to listen, which usually ended with us goofing off and laughing until our jaws hurt. As an accomplished pianist (and comedian), amateur bodybuilder, Jason never ceased to amaze me in some form or fashion. He and his brothers were like brothers to me. Jason was a very loyal friend, and very loyal patriot for our country. A true American hero. Thank you for your service. God bless Jason and his family. We will always remember. We will never forget. I love you buddy. Words can't express what you mean to me. You'll always be in my heart, friend. We will meet again someday. You are greatly missed.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To the family of CPL Jason D. Hovater,
I wish to express my condolences for your loss. I know the pain you and so many families of Chosen Company are going through now. I lost my son from Chosen Company’s second platoon in January. My son was proud and honored to be able to serve with the heroes of the 173rd. Their legacy will live on with their brothers-in-arms, family, friends and a grateful nation. Today in the prayers of our church we prayed for Matthew and his recently fallen comrades. Though all of this pain, I can imagine a joyful reunion of these brave men in heaven.

To the family and parents of Jason I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

I never got to talk to Jason personally, but I remember worshipping at New Covenant Fellowship when he led worship there. He was an incredibly annointed worship leader. He would always lead me straight into the tangible presence of our Heavenly Father. It saddens my heart to know that we will not be blessed by that gift again here on earth, but I look forward with joy and anticipation to worship our Lord together with him again at the end of the age. Love, Peace and Comfort to you Rhonda, Gene and Jenna, and to the rest of Jason's family.

Words can not even begin to express how my heart ached when I first heard the news about Jason. He will truly be missed, and will forever be remembered for all the laughs he gave us, and the wonderful praise & worship. Jason, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Jason and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home could sleep without fear and know that we are safe. To the Hovater family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Jason and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another!

There are no words I could write on here, that will make the pain subside. As I watched the funeral go by, my heart was overwhelmed with grief, such a sad loss to our nation, and hometown. With a flag in my hand, and tears in my eyes, I came home with so many questions, and emotions that only a situation such as this could bring out in you, questions and emotions that only GOD could truly answer and understand. I prayed, when something like this happens, its all I know how to do, its the only thing to do.
I typed his name into my computers search engine, and I come across news stories and quotes from friends and family. This death, this hurt, was not afflicted on me and yet I find myself affected as if it were my own flesh and blood. I continue reading, still crying, still so confused and I see this family, obviously grieving, and yet, its almost as if they are comforting us in their words, in the words of the King, Jesus Christ, THE ALMIGHTY, flowing from them into the hearts of people just like me. His beautiful wife stating how blessed she was, her husband had just been killed, they had only been married a short amount of time, and yet, she still saw GODS GREATNESS in all of it. I never knew Jason, if I ever met him, I don't remember, but he is someone I will never forget. His family WAS AND IS blessed for knowing him, and we are ALL blessed to live in this great nation where other Jason Hovaters can stand up for their beliefs, and continue to inspire us to be better people. GOD does not call the prepared, he prepares those that are called! Noone could have ever seen this coming, a youth leader, a son, a husband, a soldier dying in the prime of his life, at the time in life when you have so much to live for, but what an amazing person, what an amazing GOD we serve, to be able to still inspire, still Praise, to still witness, to still be a testimony, even in death.
I hate you hurt, I hate we as humans ever have to feel what it is like to lose someone, in your time of need, when so many people understandably would not be able to cope, you not only coped, you showed us all what life is all about. It has nothing to do with the amount of time you are here, it has nothing to do with the amount of money you have, it has nothing to do with how popular you are, but it has everything to do with how you live your life. Jasons days were shortened, but he is still a testimony and witness to us all, along with his family. Mourn because we cant physically be with him any longer, but Praise GOD that he is in a better place, where there is no more pain, no more tears, He truly is, the blessed one. My prayers of course are with you, and I'd like to thank you all, for reminding me at least, what life is really about, and what really is important. GOD be with you, Always.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to CPL Jason D. Hovater our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jason. And to Jason it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jason, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jason’s family and loved ones.

I knew Jason from New Covenant Fellowship and was in the youth group with him and Jenna when we were in our late teens. Jason truly had a gift in leading people in worship, and I know he will be sorely missed by so many people. He and Jenna were crazy about each other; you could just tell they were meant to be together. I too had gone to Russia on a mission trip after Jason did. One of the Russian musicians who had met Jason while he was there asked me specifically about how Jason was doing back in the states. The two had really connected through their love of Christ and their love of music, and his worship made a lasting impact on this man. Even though it was several years ago, I still remember him being asked specifically about Jason. That's the kind of person he was; he had a smile and heart that couldn't be forgotten. I am so sorry for your loss. May you find peace and comfort in our Lord.

Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I do not know you but I have been praying for you all. Thank you so much for the service your husband, son, brother, childhood friend, has given for my freedom. I know God will heal you in time to come and if I could I would carry some of the pain away myself. Jason is surely in the palm of God's hand. I know all of the pain will never leave you but I hope you will try to keep Jason's memory alive by telling and retelling of his love for Jesus. Jason's story has touched me and I will never forget!

Dear Hovater family,
Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice you have given to every citizen of these great United Sates. Your son was a brave person to do what he did and I know you will forever be proud of him. May God bless you during this time with the peace only He can give.
