Not sure what to say?

Charles Gili

December 6, 2018

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Chadwick A. Gilliam US Marine Lance Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

I am Michael Gilliams daughter, I am 12 years old and all though I did not get to meet Chad I know he is a good guy and I am sad that I didn't get to meet my uncle.

To the Gilliam family:
May the comfort from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

To the Gilliam family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Chadwicks' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

I only found out about Chad's passing a few days ago and my heart instantly shattered. I do not know if Chad ever mentioned me to his family but we were great friends who met while attending Lindsay Wilson College and then as coworkers for Mt. Comp. Chad was a very unique person-someone who instantly lit up your day when you saw him. He and I helped each other through some tough times and he was always there to talk when I needed him. Unfortunately the last time I spoke with Chad was right before he deployed. He was so proud of himself for his accomplishment and so was I. Again you have my deepest sympathies. I loved Chad like he was my brother and will NEVER forget him.

Chad is my nephew. I still do not want to accept he is gone. He was a good kid and always had a smile on his face. I loved him very much. He may be missing from the family gatherings, but his smile and laughter will remain with us forever. I will love and keep you close to my heart forever Chad.
Your Aunt Lin

P.S. To all who have posted here, the family appreciates it greatly. Times like these, it is nice to know people still care. Thank you for all your nice words and replies. I am making a scrapbook for Chad's Father, "my brother" and these replies will mean a lot to him, thank you again for your kindness.

I came by today to see you
I just had to let you know
If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time
I'd have held you, and never let go

Oh, it's kept me awake nights, wondering
I lie in the dark, just asking why
I've always been told
You won't be called home
Until it's your time

I guess heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you

I remember the last time I saw you
Oh, you held your head up proud
I laughed inside
When I saw how you were standing out in the crowd
Your such a part of who I am
Now that part will just be void
No matter how much I need you now
Heaven needed you more

Cause heaven was needing a hero
Somebody just like you
Brave enough to stand up
For what you believe
And follow it through
When I try to make it make sense in my mind
The only conclusion I come to
Is heaven was needing a hero
Like you

Is Heaven was needing a hero
and that's you

To The Family Of LCPL Gilliam,
Words Cannot Describe The Pain Of Losing A Loved One. Never The Less Its Not Easy Especially If You Have So Many Family Members In The War. I lost 4 cousins to the war 2 of them were brothers. The Song By Lee Greenwood Describes 3 of my cousins as they leave behind 4 children each with a caring mother. i miss all of them so much when i hear of another soldier, i start to breakdown. my thoughts and prayers are with you at this tough time
rest in peace lcpl gilliam thank you for fighting for our freedom of our country

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the family of LCPL Chad Gilliam from the family of LCPL Spence Hatten.

There are no words to express our deep sorrow for your loss. We met Chad at Camp Lejeune just before the guys left on their deployment and we found him to be a very polite and squared away marine. Our son Spence talked about Chad alot and really felt as if they are brothers. Please know that we have prayed for Chad and you ever since we heard the news, but that we were praying daily for the entire unit from the beginning of the MEU, even if we didn't know all of the names involved. We will continue our prayers for Chad and you specifically and again extend our deepest condolences.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to LCpl. Chadwick A. Gilliam our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Chad. And to Chad it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Chad, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,405 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Chad’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !
