You should be receiving a quilt from Freedom Quilts real soon if you haven't received it already. It is our way of saying we care and we want to bring you some comfort. Shed your tears on your quilt wrap yourself and let it be arms wrapping you with love and comfort. OUr deepest sympathy for the pain you now carry with you. We thank you for being into this world a hero that stood tall and gave of himself for others. I know a mother would rather have her son in her arms safe instead of burying him and dealing with a pain like no other pain. We are here if you need us if you need to have someone reach out and pray with you for strenght my email my dear is [email protected] my website is www.freedomquilts.net the quilts are for all the parents and spouse that have lost a love one since September 11, 2001 that is when I started this project and that is why I'm still at it. With total honor and respect these quilts are made for the families that lost so much just so the rest of us could enjoy freedom.

Matt, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and please know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Matt and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home could sleep without fear and know that we are safe. To the Pollini family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Matthew and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

To the Pollini family: I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy to all of you. Please know that Matthew is in a better place now, watching over all of you. My son, SPC Stephen R Fortunato, was killed in Afghanistan on 10/14/08 and I miss him every day, but like Josh Groban's song, TO WHERE YOU ARE, reminds me that he's only a breath or a heartbeat away. I know he wouldn't want me to mourn him but rather to be glad that his mission is done and he is with God, because God loves all soldiers.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Dear Pollini Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.. It's just not fair.. There are no words to describe what you are going through.. What I do know is that you will see Matthew again some day.. I lost my daughter Shirley Roome Feb 6, 2008 in a car accident in New York.. She is also on this website...

I am the snow on the mountains rim,
I am the Laughter in the children's eyes
I am the sand at the water's edge,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night,
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die..

SO VERY VERY SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR BRAVE WONDERFUL MATTHEW. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

January 30, 2009

My deepest sympathy to Sarah and to the whole Pollini family - Thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this difficult time.
I met Matthew briefly before he and Sarah were married; I spoke with him about war before the wedding ceremony. As a Marine’s wife of the Vietnam era, and a child during WW II in a occupied European country, I felt compelled to warn him of the many dangerous situations he might have encountered in Iraq. Matthew showed care, understanding of the world around him, and a true love for Sarah. He will be missed by many I am sure, but he believed in what he was doing, so much so that he had no hesitation about planning for the future with his wife. God bless you all. Justice Taylor

Dear Pollini Family,
Deepest sympathy to all of you. I am holding all of you tightly in my heart, prayers, and thoughts. As a wife of a deployed Mass National Guard soldier, I pray that you will find strength through Christ our Lord. The sky shines more brightly tonight, as the heavens have received one special star. As you look to the sky, I'm sure he will sparkle as he looks down with pride. To his father, please take that as a sign that no matter what happened, he is without pain, sorrow, and only has good thoughts and views.

To the Pollini family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Matthews' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

My deepest condolences on your tremendous loss. My 20 year old son is in the Navy and I can't imagine what you're going through. Please remember you're not grieving alone, other military families share your pain. While I've never met Pfc Pollini or any of his family or friends, I feel it's my duty to pay respect to such a brave man. Without brave men like Pfc Matthew Pollini, America would not be the great FREE country that it is today. God bless.

I am writing to offer my deepest sympathies to you and your family over the loss of your HERO Pfc Matthew M Pollini. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC Matthew M. Pollini our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Matthew. And to Matthew it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Matthew, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Matthew’s family and loved ones.
