Stephen,
I don't even know where to begin when describing you. You were so many things. To me, you were an amazing friend and neighbor. I have so many fond memories of you when we were kids running around the neighborhoods. I remember when you climbed the entire length of a 25-foot light pole at Darlington Park lol. Anyone reading this wondering why Stephen climbed the light pole?... Not sure the reason, but probably because he could I remember one snowy December, my brother and I were having a snowball fight in your front lawn with you and your 3 brothers. I dont remember if I slugged you good with a snowball or not to have caused this, but I do remember you suprising me and being on the receiving end of THE HUGEST snowball that anyone could ever make and then forcefully smothered my face in it .... Why did Stephen forcefully smother the hugest snowball in my face? Not sure the reason, but probably because he could. Unfortunately for Stephen, I began to cry which triggered and caused Stephen's big brother Chris to respond. I'll just say, the huge snowball wasn't all that bad after all Thanks for having my back by the way Chris To this day, I dont really know the reason why you joined the military, but probably because you could and would do an exceptional job. After reading and hearing all the stories of you from the men and women you served with, it sounds like you continued to be the exceptional person God made you to be and an exceptional soldier that gave his life for his family and country. I cant thank you enough Stephen. As time goes by, I'm thankful to see you everywhere when visiting the old neighborhood. I remember the good ole days. When visiting my grandfathers grave, I'm glad that I can also visit yours several yards away. Really stinks that you had to go so young, but you ran the race and completed all that God had for you to complete in this life. My time is to be determined on Earth. Not sure when the Lord will call me home. But best believe Stephen.... if God has snow in Heaven (and He will).... I'm getting you back with the BIGGEST HEAVENLY SNOWBALL right to your face
Love you my friend and brother in Christ.

Every time I pass the house where you grew up, I can almost see you, your brothers and my youngest sons Drew and Rhett playing in the front yard. We have some fun memories of having you in our home. Thank you for the surprise calls after you joined the military. We were thrilled to hear from you. What can I say, but thank you for your service and for the joy that you brought into everyone's lives. Miss you always Stephen.

Hey buddy... Wanted to let you know you haven't meen forgotten... Been a few years since I have posted here. Wanted to let you know that you are still mentioned in conversations when I tell people how wild and crazy you were and the funny stories that are still to this day shared with others. I wanted to thank you... Not only for being my friend but for showing me what life is trully about and to live with no regrets!!! Upon finding out that we were PCSing to our current duty station, all I could think of were the words you teased Joe with, everytime he brought up anything having to do with being Airborne..."CUZ THATS HOW WE DO IT IN THE AIRBORNE!!" :) To this day the reminders like that bring a smile to my face. It's gotten a lil easier with time but losing a friend like you will always be hard on my heart. Thank you for the crazy, hilarious memories you left with us all. You will never be forgotten by anyone that is for sure. If your folks and brothers read this as well as your close friends from OK, I wish them well. Wanted to let ya know Joe and I miss you bunches, as does my mom.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.
While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more
To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.
The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill
I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

To the family of Stephen Scott Thompson:
I am very sorry for your loss. I began my Works of Heart project for families like yours. I offer a free pencil portrait to Oklahoma military families who have lost someone in this war. It is just a small way I can say “Thank you” and “I’m sorry.” Master’s House Framing in Moore, Oklahoma, is generously providing their framing services for this project.
I would very much like to draw David for you if you are interested. Just contact me at [email protected]. My website shows my "Works of Heart" soldiers I have drawn www.amycwhitaker.com.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,

My "Booncie"- There isn't a day that goes by that you are not thought of. I miss you so very much as do the Guys. I find it easier to get through by talking about you and sharing my memories of you. The Guys here miss you just the same. We always talk about you. And in some way or another find ourselves saying something or doing something that reminds us of you. I miss your presence and just you being here as well as your smile and laugh. I felt that God brought you into my life for a reason and that if it wasn't for Joe, I never would have met you. I never told you this but thank you for being an AWESOME guy bestie. Your family is purely amazing and In meeting them I now see why you spoke so highly of your friends and family back home. Thank you for always standing beside me and always having my back. I love you and miss you and am blessed to have had you in my life.

Stephen, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and please know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Stephen and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home could sleep without fear and know that we are safe. To the Thompson family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Stephen and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

To the Thompson family,
I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Stephens' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.
...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

The loss you have suffered is unmeasurable...understanding your grief and heartache, crying along side of you, my tears fall in perfect harmony with the ones you are shedding. It was a sad day for you the day Stephen left this world, I know that pain all too well. My brother, Spc. Jeffrey Henthorn died in Anaconda Balad, Iraq February 8, 2005. The saddest day of my life. I wish I could tell you that time will heal your hearts, but I'm still waiting for that day. It's hard enough when our loved ones leave us, but it's even harder when you have to say goodbye to them when their lives were just beginning.
Thank you Cpl. Stephen Scott Thompson for your service in the Army. I am greatful for the ones who have unselfishly laid their lives down for my freedom.
Lord, carry this broken family in their darkest hour. Keep them in your grasp as they walk down this saddened path in life.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Words are not near enough...Just know that millions of Americans are remembering your son as an American Hero and that is truly what he is. I have two sons in the Army. One has deployed three times to Iraq and my youngest is in Mosul now. I feel as though we have dodged a bullet at least 3 times and I pray for a fourth. I take it personally every single time a soldier losses his life for our country. My son is also from Fort Hood and they are all affected by these tragic deaths. Our prayers are with you. God Bless Stephen...

To the parents and family, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to heal you as He gives comfort to you today.
