Dear Family of Sgt. Jason Peto,
This year our church dedicated a Christmas tree to remember our fallen heroes. Each name was placed on a Gold Star and each family was asked to take one and remember the family during the Christmas season. Our family chose Sgt. Peto and we wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude for the service that he gave to our country. Please know that he will never be forgotten as we will keep our star on the shelf always. Remember too, that you will be in our prayers throughout the coming year.

To the Family of
Marine Sgt. Hasin D. Peto

I wish I had the right words to say at this time, but I know there are none. I grieve for the loss of your beloved son and I know that I cannot fathom the pain you must be feeling. Your son will not be forgotten and what he did to help protect our homeland and our freedoms. It was his life that made him a Hero. It was his noble path that made him an American Hero. It was his ultimate sacrifice that made him a Fallen Hero. May God carry him to Heaven on His precious wings and give him a palace to live in. I pray that our Heavenly Father above will grace you with His love, His comfort and His peace. Heaven's Gates now has a new handsome Marine standing guard. Amen.

Dear Peto family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Jason will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you.

I salute you.

Sgt. Peto - - we have never met, however, you will know me. You have completed the mission, you have packed the gear, and will continue to do so as you step into the lengthening susnset parade. You have gained a special place within The Traditions and History. I seem to be picking up the pace to meet the time for me to join the parade as well. Over that time, I shall remember your fidelity and embrace you in honor. While thanking you for that, I will forever cherish all of those you have left behind - - those whom would love and care for you. When I join the movement, I shall pick up the pace, step into ranks beside you - - into your shadow - - with pride and honor. You will know it is me Sgt. Peto. You will take a quick glance and smile - - I will be the one shouldering the M1Garand. We will march on together, along with all who came before. We will witness, in praise and recognition, the long line to be joined again and again by those now anonymous, those whose pace seems to quicken for them as well.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sgt. Jason Peto our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jason. And to Jason it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jason, you are a brave Marine Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jason’s family and loved ones. Semper Fi !

Christmas Without Me

Do tears blur the colors of Christmas lights
And carols make you sigh?
Are you saddened because it's Christmas
And I am not nearby?
Do you think of all the joyous times
We shared in seasons past?
Does the ache feel overwhelming
Seeming like it will always last?

Please don't weep for me.
Know this Christmas is my best.
At this Christmas dinner
I'm seated with the Honored Guest
If the tears you cry are for you,
Lonely without me today
To share this year's season,
Then listen to what I say.

God's gift that first Christmas
Was much more than His son.
He gave to us the promise
Of eternal life for everyone.
Now that I've gone on and received
That promised gift of life,
I'm very much a part of
The Christmas spirit light.

I'm the angel sitting on top of
A decorated tree
And a simple Christmas carol
Sung by a child so reverently.
I'm the Santa on the corner
Loudly ringing his bell.
I'm in that Christmas Eve story
That you know so well.
I'm in every sight and sound
That brings people Christmas joy.
I'm a smile on the face of a child
Who received a much loved toy.

Now that I'm part of the season
We loved and shared so much,
Close your eyes, think of me.
Reach out and feel my touch.
Please share in all the joy I'm feeling
Being a part of Christmas cheer.
Look around and you'll find me.
Joyous Christmas, for I am near.
May God be with you
We are so sorry your blue Star has turned to Gold
