I cant believe its been 3 years already. I miss Mark everyday. He was an inspiration too us all and the best leader a Marine could ask for! As a fellow NCO I act in the same way and thank him for that role model.

Dear Brave Sgt. Mark P. Adams,
In times of war the good leave us to do their duty. Sometimes they never return. And we do miss them. Know this Mark, you are missed by many more than just your immediate circle of family and friends. The rest of us mourn the loss of a great spirit who could have accomplished so much more had he had more time. And from what I've read about you, what you could have accomplished would have helped us all. Sleep well dear son of proud parents and brother of us all. When you wake up you will once again know the peace, warmth and safety of your parents arms.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Mark, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Phillip and Rene:
I am so saddened by the news that I just found about Mark giving his life for our country. I can only imagine the pain that goes with that experience. It doesn't seem possible that Mark would be 24. And the fact that it was more than two years ago, Wow! I am so sorry. You have given a sacrifice for our country.
I think of you often and wish we were still close. I pray that God is using you mightily in your work at Sorrell's Grove. I am glad you are there.
Please give my best to the rest of your family. I hope we can connect soon.

As a former Marine, I truly appreciate the level of commitment and sense of duty your son put into his life. His sacrifice for the freedoms that we all enjoy humbles me. I grieve for the loss of your son as I would a brother. I hope that in the days ahead you can begin to more fully appreciate the good memories and the love, warmth, and friendship of family, friends, and fellow Marines. God Bless and keep you. Semper Fi.

Dear Phillip and Rene`,
Mike and Marshall~
Though it be 2008, there remains a place in my heart where each of you is held in prayer, a place where Mark is held in Thanksgiving. Humble, beyond words, I remain so by your spirits so full of love and courage and radiant in faith.
The 'Celebration of the Life of Sgt. Mark P. Adams' printed on blue paper has been part of my home for just over 2 years now. In these 2 years Mark has become part of my heart, I am so honored to have been part of the farewell to this Marine that October day in 2005. Thank you for that privilege! Mark will not be forgotten by this Marine Corp daughter, nor will his family.
In Christ Love,
Sharon

Phillip and Rene:
I was reading Mark's Guest Book and I wanted to write to you. I can't imagine what you are feeling at this time, but I hurt because I know what it is to love deeply. I grew up in a large,close-knit family with seven children. My baby brother died about 20 years ago and I remember my father saying there is NOTHING that can compare to losing a child!
I have been in the Ministry since 1979 and in 2004 God blessed me with a "Personalized" tape ministry for our Troops. I consider it an "honor" to do what I do. I can't say "thank you" enough for all of the sacrifices.
I will FOREVER "salute" Sgt Mark P. Adams!
Stay strong and encouraged!

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. My name is Dane Hixson, I was lucky enough to know Mark and served with him in Iraq. I remember when Mark first came to the unit...(I saw him in the company office and had already heard that we were getting a new Sgt.) At this point all the of us had grown very close from a few years together and a number of over seas deployments under our belts - Point being that we were a hard group to be "the new guy" in. We were determined to give anyone new a hard time. Mark quickly let it be known that he was a stand up individual and accomplished what few had done before him, he gained our respect almost instantly because of his work ethic and his work hard play hard mentality! Mark was a great leader and was a role model in the company, personally and professionaly. Here on this site (that I am lucky enough to stumble upon as I reminisce of old times with my comrades) I say "CHEERS to SGT. Mark Adams for being a hero to anyone who knew him well!" Semper Fi Mark!

April 29, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the ADAMS FAMILY,
My name is Bob Marchione and I met you at the memorial service for SGT ADAMS and all the ohter fallen men and women from the 2nd Marine Division. He was my PLT SGT and was also one of my closest friends. He did everything right and barely did anything wrong. As we are gearing up to go over to Iraq again, to the same place in Falluja, I have been thinking more and more about MARK and that day on OCT 15th 2006. We are headed back to the same place and I know deep deep down in my heart that he will protect all of us. Although he never beat me in Madden 2006, he was my greatest opponent. When the battalion went on Pre-Deployment leave in 2006 before we left for IRAQ, Mark and I were the only ones that didn't take any leave because we didn't have enough days and spent 8 straight days lifting, running, and playing video games. When we go back to Falluja I will walk up down the same road and drive the same streets that Mark and I were on together last year. I miss him so much that it hurts but I know that he will keep me safe this time. God bless your family and I want to say something to Mark that I say everyday, something that him and I used to say to one another everytime we hung up the phone with one another or left one another: Stay up and One Love Mark..ONE LOVE

Mark and Family,
I met Mark a year or so before he had re-enlisted, through Jay Huffman. We kept in contact through that time and were both deployed in the same time period. At the time that I heard of Mark's passing I was in Habbaniyah, Iraq , serving as a turret gunner. Mere days before I had recieved a message from Mark, saying that we would go paint the town red when we got back. I still can't beleive he's gone, and my heart felt condolences are sent out to your entire family.

My brother will be joining the Marines when he finishes highschool and I will be joining the Navy. It's because of people like Sgt. Adams that we feel safe at night and I want to be able to give that same feeling to others. I thank God for Sgt. Adams. You have my deepest condolences.

To the family of sgt Adams. We want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. As an army wife I know that pain of sending your soldier off to war, but I wont act as though I know your pain of loss, but I do feel it. Your son is our hero and we will always remember the selfless service that he gave. May you in time find peace, and know that you have a wonderful angel always watching over you. He is now in Gods army, and so obviously was a special one that God needed with him. God Bless you.

To the Family of Sgt. Mark P. Adams:
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

My prayers are with your family as this year has passed, and in the coming years ahead. I want you to know Mark will forever be my Hero. I did not know him here in this life but will one day in eternity be able to thank him personally for his greatest gift of courage and sacrifice for us. No man has a greater love than to give his life for another. I will never forget and my children and grandchildren will know of Mark and what he gave for us to live free and have protection here in our home land. Mark was one of our own, here in North Carolina. He has brought this war close to home for us and reminds us, to keep praying for all our love ones in service for our country.
Forever, with a grateful heart!

I am so sorry for the loss of your son Mark. He is and always will be a true American Hero.
I hope you can take comfort in knowing that there are many Americans who read and sign the guest books of Marines and Soldiers that we dont even know in appreciation of their, and your sacrifice.
He is resting in the arms of our Lord.
