Eugenia Carter Obituary

Eugenia Jones Carter
Ms. Carter, 61, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004, peacefully at home, with her girls by her side. Genia was born October 2, 1942, in High Point, NC, the beloved daughter of A.P. and Audrey Jones.
Genia graduated with a BA degree in business from Sacred Heart College, while working full time to raise her three girls. She left the business world to attend Grayson College in Denison, Texas to become a certified piano turner. Already an accomplished pianist and a chorus member with Opera Carolina, her passion for music was greatly fulfilled by her piano tuning business. Genia was a registered tuner/technician with the Piano Technician's Guild, becoming co-founder of the Charlotte chapter, serving as Regional Vice President, National Vice President and board member of the NC Regional Conference since 1986 and teaching at chapter, regional and annual institutes. Genia was and will be forever bound in love with the memories she shared with her family, mother, Audrey Jones; daughters, Beverly Edmonds and husband Bill, Liz Carter, Tina Overcash and husband, Danny; grandchildren, Wayne Berry, Jason Brookshire, Jessica Brookshire, Alex Carter, Kelly Helms, Jarred Overcash, Magan Overcash; great grandchildren, Christian, Cody and Alyssa Berry, Donavin Vongsakoun; brothers, Al Jones, Robert Jones; and sister-in-law, Susanne Jones. Genia also shared her life with nine nieces and nephews, and very special friend, Charles Rosekrans. She was preceded in death by her father, A.P. Jones.
The family would like to thank Hospice at Charlotte and all of her incredible friends who so supported Genia and her family during this time.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2004 at the Great Aunt Stella Center, 926 Elizabeth Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204, with the Reverend Catherine George officiating. Burial will be private at the family cemetery in East Flat Rock, NC. The family requests memorial made to Hospice at Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204, or the American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202.

The first time I met Gina was during a convention where I was host chair. Gina showed up at my hotel room with a bouquet of roses to help me get through it. I'll never forgot it. Her passion for life was boundless. "Honeysuckle Rose" keeps running through my head. Even in sickness, she displayed grace, wit and love. It was a pleasure to meet some of her family and see how much she loved and was proud of all of you when we were in Charlotte for the seminar. Love and prayers to all of you.

Gina was one who really made a difference, and cannot be replaced. Fran and I spent many happy hours with her over the years, and know she fought the good fight, both for PTG and for her own life. Not adieu, but au revoir . . . til we meet again!

I first met Genia when the Bendix plant opened in Charlotte. I was their telephone man and Genia was my contact person there.

She was a joy to work with. She always had a smile and was just fun to be with. I remember how proud she was of her girls and how thrilled she was to buy her home on Commonwealth. My thoughts have been with her in recent months but I always seemed too busy to stop by or call.Sure wish I had.Genia told me my thirties would be better than my twenties. She was right. I'm now in my fifties.

My deepest condolences to all the family. Genia will be greatly missed by many people.

I didn't know that Gina was sick, so hearing of her death is kind of a shock. My last visit with Gina was in Dallas at the PTG convention where she spent about 45 minutes talking with me about how to plan for a technical seminar. She was very helpful, cheerful and friendly.

My prayers are with her family. God Bless you.

I really enjoyed knowing Gina and working with her over the years. So glad we got to spend time with her at the last PTG convention. We'll all miss her tremendously.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family today as they celebrate the life of Gina Carter. Although my association with Gina was breif in comparison to the many frineds she has, she always made me feel like I was a life-long friend. Kind words and hugs were never in short supply with her. She gave so much, expecting nothing in return.

Go with God Gina, knowing you will always be remembered by this 'Rook' and the members of our organization(PTG) as someone who truly cared about each and every one of us. We can only hope that the PTG will become stronger and more resolved with the tireless work and committment you have shown to improve the organization.

Anyone who knew 'Gina' recognizes that she had a rare ability. Within moments, her warm smile and gracious demeanor could melt the coldest of hearts. She could make a new acquaintance feel as if they had been friends forever.

"A Service of Celebration" mentioned in the Observer's earlier short obituary is a fitting title and tribute that reflects Gina's brief time with us. Whether her daily routine was good or stressful, she enjoyed life and pursued it with a vigor that most people can only admire, yet never quite duplicate.

Fortunately for the rest of us, her legacy lives on with her most prized treasure; her daughters and their families. It is with them that my thoughts and prayers are now focused.

Gina influenced the lives of countless people who were lucky enough to know her. I am honored that our paths crossed. She will be remembered far longer than any words expressed here.

Thank you for being my friend, Gina.

I didn't know Gina, but I know of her, being a Piano Technician in the Guild myself. I can tell you that she was admired and respected by all of us whom she helped, and we are all grieving the loss of one of our finest technicians.

Gina was not only a wonderful piano

technician and tuner, but she was

also a very special person. Although I didn't discover this

"Charlotte treasure" until about

4 years ago, I thought of her as a friend and a person with whom I could share my love of the piano

and the glorious sounds she was able to coax from it. I will truly miss our "tuning times" together.

Please know that my

thoughts and prayers are with you

as you go through this difficult

time, but also take time to celebrate her life and the joy that

she brought to all of us through

her musical and personal gifts!

Genia always had a smile and a hug. I will remember her as a highlight of coming to NC for the PTG conventions. I wish the family the best during this difficult time and hope they can keep the good memories clearly in focus.

I remember your mother and you girls from when you lived in Oakdale a long long time ago. I babysat for you and your mother was really nice to me.I just wanted you to know I was thinking about you and that I care.

Gina has been an one of my primary mentors in the Piano Technicians Guild. I still remember when I was in school working toward my degree in piano tuning, she taught a class one day, and amazed us all with her speed and accuracy in a tuning demonstration. Since the beginning she has always been happily supportive, and willing to help. She was a friend, and inspiration to myself, and many others in Charlotte, and around the country. Thanks Gina
