Dad - It has been 13 months now since you have gone to be with the Lord. We miss you so much but know you are in a much better place. We are taking good care of Mom (you would be so proud of how good she is doing although she misses you greatly). Until we are together again.........Love, Jaynette

I watched the Derby being played by the USAF Academy band several times. I wish to express our condolences from myself and my wife Donna.

Our steel guitar builders are very special people, and our entire community is diminished by their loss. Derby steels, and the music played on them, are a fine and most fitting legacy of Charlie Stepp's life and his dedication to this unique instrument. Those lucky enough to own one have something that was touched by the hand of Charlie, as they themselves have been.
My most sincere condolences to Margit and their respective families.

Margit: Charlie and you have been good friends of ours for many years. The Good Lord must have needed more music in heaven. Guess that old band is all together there now, much to all our sorrow. Charlie was a good man and I am sure he was welcomed into the arms of
Jesus. May you and your family find peace in knowing where he is. Take care and hang in there. Love, Mary

Margit and Family,
There are no words to express the loss we are feeling, but there are many good memories of the times we spent with you two wonderful people. Charlie was more than just a guitar builder - he was one of our best friends and we loved him dearly. He was a kind, gentle man who cared for his fellow man and he loved Margit with all his heart. To be in their company was so warm and sincere. We will miss him so very much, but will keep in close contact with his lovely Margit. Go rest in peace Charlie and we will see you again some day. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with Margit and his family.
Much love to all,

Charlie Stepp you will be missed. I loved your sense of humor and your music. I also appreciated you for your honesty when I needed your mechanical help at the Marathon and the body shop. I could always count on that honesty. When told something was wrong with the car there weren't tons of other add-ons. The music is going to be fantastic in heaven with Charlie on steel. The loss here tremendous. God bless and comfort the family at this time of loss.

Uncle Charlie will be missed by so many. Sitting and listening to him play when I was a child were some of the best times my sister and I had. He was a wonderful uncle and the times I got to spend summer holidays with Aunt Margit, Uncle Charlie, Jaynette & Charlie Jr were the best of times. He was a beloved uncle and I will miss stoping on our way to ohio and having him take us out to the shop to see the new steels. Not only our children got to enjoy this but our grandchildren were blessed to visit with Uncle Charlie and Aunt Margit. He will be missed by so many generations.

This is truly one of the saddest days for the world of steel guitar. Charlie and Margit Stepp have been like family to me for years and gave me my start in steel guitar. They were always there, always knowing how to make me feel special. They were both extremely big influences in my steel guitar playing and in my life... i know margit will get through this alright and i will be there for her always, just like charlie and herself were for me. i will never forget Charlie Stepp. He was a fine human being and had a true love for steel guitar and made the BEST steel guitar in the world - DERBY STEEL. He was a true friend and we all loved him dearly. Although he is gone now, i know he is in a better place and one thing is for sure - AS LONG AS I LIVE, DERBY STEEL WILL NOT DIE OUT. IT IS ALL I HAVE EVER PLAYED AND I WILL KEEP PLAYING DERBY FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE. It is truly his mark on the steel guitar world and just like all the other fallen legends, i will think of him every time I sit down to play... His memory shall live on and will never be forgotten in my heart...
The one and only Mr. Charles F. Stepp - NEVER to be forgotten; his memory lives on in the hearts of all.

To my Dearest Margit, family, and friends, Some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven.
Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
"Well They say the angels in heaven play the harps.
But when I get there if I do.
I hope they play a steel guitar."
We are going to miss you ole friend.
Margit we have you and your family in our prayers
