I last saw Tristan at a Philcon many years ago, but am still saddened to learn of his passing. RIP my friend.

He was my knight in the SCA. Even when I left the Philly area I kept wearing my Man at Arms belt. I still do when I go to SCA events. He will always be my knight.
Now I am the same age as he when he passed. I think of all that he taught me, our road trips, the fighting skills, inside jokes, life skills. When I come across some difficulty in my life I often find myself thinking "what would he do?"
I have missed him greatly and even more so recently with some BIG life things going on. I wish he was still here so he could be part of my wedding.
Damn man. I miss you.

The first time I ever saw Baron Tristan was at a Christmas SCA event. He was lounging across the throne and throwing chocolate kisses to his populace and giving the ladies red roses. I got to know John on a personal level at the next Pennsic, when my daughter brought him into our camp. I sewed garb for him in the next year. He brought joy and new experiences to my daughter's life and she also learned about the War from a Knight's experience. She became a true Scadian after meeting Tristan. I will always remember him as a person who helped others and as a chivalrous Knight who lived in service to the dream everyday! He will be greatly missed!
To his family I extend my sympathy. Lady Tat'iana Kianova. Barony of Endless Hills,Aethelmearc.

I recently heard the sad news of Tristan's passing at Pennsic this year. I much rather like to think that he's really south of the border drinking real tequilla, smoking cubans and complaining about the heat. He was kind, smart, and loved to laugh.
The world has lost a bright shining star, He will be very sadly missed by His AEthelmartian.

He was a kind, helpful and funny friend, and a very good housemate, way back in the early 90s. You *will* be missed, John. ~~~Maurenn. Clann Hamilton.

I will always remember Tristen for introducing me to fight practices and all manner of events and people way back when. It's been a few years since we crossed paths; I was stunned to learn of his passing because I always expected to see him again at Pennsic or elsewhere.

John was a great guy, absolutely my right hand in doing the work of
FrankfordStyle. He cared, he was smart, a natural leader, and was always able to come up with a solution to problems. He was President of the Board of Directors, then followed me as
Director of FrankfordStyle. I still
can't take it in, we all, faculty, students, the community, loved
and respected John. We miss and will miss him. My sympathy to all of us who knew him in this time.

You will be deeply missed, dear Sir Tristan. Your intelligence, wisdom, and compassion was rivaled only by your physical prowess. Four Winds sends its most sincere sympathies.

As much as John's death has stunned me, I appreciate the opportunity I had in this lifetime to work alongside him at FrankfordStyle. Even amidst the many challenges we faced, John always was a wellspring of suggestions and ideas, open to considering every angle to handle a situation. In our many non-business conversations regarding politics, arts and life John's humor and intelligence made each a welcome experience.

I'm glad we had the opportunity to connect in this lifetime.

I knew Sir Tristan from some of my first times in the East Kingdom. He was a great leader of the SCA and a great person to have around the campfire at night. I'll tip a toast to his memory when next I get together with friends, his is a memory worthy of song.

I have only fond memories of Tristen with all my dealing with him over
the 15 + years of SCA. When my girlfriend and I started to visit the East, he took the time at every event to ensure that we felt welcome
even though we were from another Kingdom. I must admit that my
favourite story was about the time he looked at my girlfriend and
stated how much he loved foreign women, she looked around realized that he was referring to her (we are from Canada LOL!!). I will miss your warm and ready smile John.

We knew John as “Baron Tristan”. He was one of the kindest people that one could know or have the opportunity to be with. He always lent a kind ear to listen, and shared his talents to help people grow. I regret that Loritta and I did not know him better, but know that he will remain in our hearts.

I knew Tristan in the SCA for the better part of 15 years we spent a lot of time together at Pennsic.
The front Pavilion is not going to be the same without him! I was honored to know him and call him my friend.
condolences to his family in this time of loss, but know he was well loved by many people.

Wow. Baron Tristan brought me into the SCA. He was kind, throughtful, and faster than light in armor. I went to my first Pennsic with Bhakail, and I have been ever since.

You will be missed.

I knew John as Tristan in the SCA, and have seen what great deeds he has done there over the years. If he was half as active in the mundane world as he was in the SCA, then he did great things there as well - the world is a little dimmer now that such a bright candle has gone out.
Fare well Tristan, and condolences to his family in this time of loss.

Tristan was very special and I will miss him. I first met him in 1988, and just saw him a few months ago in Philly. He was funny, caring, and a good man. I was honored to fight along side him with his unit a number of Pennsics back. My Deepest sympathies to his family.

I learned a lot from Tris over the years. Not just fighting, but also honor, generousity, and even the importance of organization. He helped me grow in a few ways.

I always thought I'd have the chance to sweat and bleed for him again someday once I got the rest of my act together.
It'll have to wait for our next go around the wheel.

I met Tristan 2 years ago through my sister Kathe. He was a great guy and they were so happy!
About a month ago we all took a vacation to Chicago to hang out with our family. It was a great trip. He will be missed!

Although he and I were not close friends, I always felt it an honor to be a friend of his at all. I always saw him as fair, just and kind. I recall fighting alongside him with our unit and drinking alongside him at the steak dinners. On several occasions he had asked me to sing for him and it was always my pleasure to do so.
I will always remember him with great fondness.

John was a very unconventional and special man. He was one of my best friends in the SCA. He always stood by me through the tough times. I will miss him while I am here on earth, but I know he will be waiting for me when I get to where he is; with his ratty surcoat and armor on and a bottle of tequila in his hand.

We will miss you my friend...

I knew John as a member of the SCA.
He was a strong leader, who knew how to get a group of odd types to work together. He was a friend, who offered me sanctuary at a time when it was most needed. "Baron Tris", as we called him, will leave a large empty space, in many ways.
Vivat-3X3-for a true member of the Chivalry {& save me a shot of tequilla!}.
