I personally did not know Lt Daniel Hyde. I have gotten to know him through my son Tyler Ray. My son served under him in Iraq. They were very close. He speaks of him often and Tyler was there when Daniel passed away. We lift Daniel´s family up in prayer. Daniel has paid the ultimate price for our freedom in the USA. Our family will always keep him close to our hearts.

Dan,
Miss you man. It's been too long. I didn't get to go to your funeral, but I saw a video of it today. You always did the right thing. I remember we were in IBOLC and you insisted on pulling security even though the rest of us were goofing off! Remember color guard? I am glad you got to hold the American flag especially when we were on that hockey rink at RMC in Canada! I bet I would have fallen on my butt haha. Those were good times brother. Hope things are good up there.

I unfortunatly never got the chance to meet Daniel but he and his family are in my thoughts and prayers every day. This summer while in Coeur d'Alene Idaho cheering on the runners of the Iron Man competion I was given something that touched my heart. A young lady ran by, reached out her hand and handed me something. Saying "I want you to have this in memory of my friend." It was a dog tag with Daniel's name on it. Everything I can find about Daniel on the internet says he was an amazing young man who loved life. I wish I had had the honor to meet him. And I am greatly sadened that his life was cut short protecting our freedome.
Thank you Daniel for your sacrifice. You will be forever in my heart.

I couldn't let the Fourth of July pass without writing a little something. On this day I want to honor you. If it weren't for you, your brothers in arms, our veteran, and all branches of our Military, we might not be living the free life that we do.
Because of you, we are able to worship as we see fit, walk wherever we may want to, speak what we want to speak and so very many more things.
I will forever HONOR and THANK you on this day.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of Dan. I was in Iraq when I heard the news. He was a civil major with me at West Point and my partner for our Hydrology Class. He was a hard worker and good friend. I remember during our project we had a large chunk due the next day and I was suppose to meet with him after basketball practice. i was extremely tired and dreading the next several hours of work. When I got to Dan's room ready to work he just turned and smiled. I think he could sense my exhaustion. He told me he had worked all afternoon to finish and he just needed me to look over it. He made my night. He was great person and only made this world better. All of our classmates over in Iraq were devastated by the news of his death. Another civil major and myself went skiing this weekend and a conversation of him and who he was came up. This other civil major was on the bridge team with him while I was on the concrete canoe. Not one person could ever say anything bad about Dan. Everyone knew and loved Dan and we will never forget him.

Daniel, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation. Like so many others you have volunteered to serve our country and protect the vary freedom America was built on. Please know Daniel that you like so many other fallen brother and sisters in arms that you will never be forgotten and you are heroes to us all. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also paid the ultimate price on 5/6/08 while on a routine patrol in Anbar Province as an MP. His unit was ambushed and came under small arms fire and he was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and all our brave heroes serving in our armed services. I stand tall and salute you Daniel and will forever honor the memory of you along with my nephew. To the Hyde family words cannot express enough the pain both our families now must endure and my prayer is that the memory of your brave hero carry you through each day as you cope with this tragic loss. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

Dear Hyde Family,
I went to La Loma Junior High and Downey High school with Daniel Hyde. This is one person I will never forget and will always respect. He proved that the sky was the limit. From Never missing a day in school from Kindergarden and through out high school, to studying for the Advance placement exams we all dreeded. He was a straight A student with many goals and was always willing to help others no matter what..He would give his last for anyone, no matter who they were. His mother Glenda was my cheerleading coach during my 10th grade year at Downey, and his sister Andrea was in my Chemistry class that was taught by Mrs. Grothe..Daniel Was an Blessing to every one who knew him.. I remember in junior high he liked Puff daddy a.k.a (p.diddy) and always stayed active in sports: football, basketball and still maintained a 4.0 We will all miss you, but you will never be forgotten.. Stay Strong Glenda, Andrea and Brian..

I did not know Lt. Daniel Hyde until after his story published in THE MODESTO BEE. My brother is currently deployed in Iraq. His picture sits on the wall in the Hudson Station Post Office with the many other local men/women serving our country. A few days ago I was in the post office looking at the wall and noticed Daniel's picture not far from my own brother's. I realized how blessed we are to have these brave men/women from our own hometown, and from so many towns across this country, serving to protect us. Godspeed to Lt. Hyde. May the Good Lord serve and protect you, as you have bravely done for us. God Bless.

I just recently heard of Daniel's passing and wanted to offer my condolences to the Hyde family and everyone who loved and cared for him. I knew Daniel our senior year at Downey. We were both TA's in the student center for a while. He was a great person and will be missed. Mostly, I remember the number 13 jersey on game days and of him telling us ladies in the student center how he was going to West Point after high school. He was really easy to talk to and was always in a good mood, no matter what.
You must be so proud of his many accomplishments.He will be missed by many people.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

The biggest honor of our life here at the Jensen -Mcclellan house is that YOU Glenda and Brian helped me raise my son for so many years. Your unconditional love was not just from you but from Daniel and Andrea too. I have no idea how life would be today if you had not been there to take care of my little baby boy with yours. Those years were just the beginning of our childrens lifes.
I knew even then that Daniel was a leader as he even at five years old was watching over my son the same age then and keeping the other eye on his sister too. EVEN THEN I knew to be forever thankful for your entire family It was like we were all one big team.. Needless to say Daniel went on to be a team leader just like you Glenda and Brian. So many memories My own wedding with both Daniel and Andrea in it over 17 years ago..Daniel lead then too. He lit our candles he even took that job seriously even at 5 years old. I never worried about my son I always knew you and Daniel too would be by his side while I worked. I know morals are tought at an early age and your family helped ours even then and still. I know God arms are big and will completly carry all of you for as long as you need. I know the arms of your loved ones will hold you as long as you need. The loving memories of Daniel will help us all slowly get stronger, as that is what all of your family would say hold your head high and be strong. Keep going and when I think of Daniel as tears come so will smiles as I remember all the love from him all those years. I will always love you Glenda, Brian,and Andrea and never forget or stop loving your beautiful son our Angle above. Daniel Brian Hyde forever in my heart. Lori Jensen

In honor of the man you are and will always be Daniel
Daniel as we gather here today to honor you
We have your perseverance and power to help carry us through
We all can see your strong smiling face
Taking each stride and new step with grace
Your whole life you helped others to make sure things fell into place
Making close personal connections with each and every face
Each day you made life possible for someone else to live
Your whole life you continue to give and give
Your legacy lives on in each of us as a gift
You touch each one of us giving us this needed lift
If all of us can be half the individual you are
We will 'make a big difference' like you as we reach up towards the stars
With your sincerity and genuine love, you make us believe we can go far
Thank you again for reminding each of us to raise the bar
To you Daniel our forever hero, brother, and friend
You will be remembered as always in our hearts till the end

Daniel-our nephew, our cousin, our soldier- you were, are, and always will be an inspiration to us. You not only lived your faith, but showed others how to do so. All of us will miss your kind and broad smile, your truly caring heart, and hearing you say “ Heeeyyyy, Aunt Cheryl” as you embraced your aunt with your strong arms. She credits you for her children- you were such a great child that you showed her how great kids can be! We watched you play football at Downey High, and cheered you on. We rejoiced when you went to West Point, and waited for the stories of your experiences there. We bragged about your successes, while you were always humble. Watching you grow into the man you became, and seeing your graduation from West Point will live in our memories. You made the most of each day, and wanted each new day to be better because of you. You demanded the utmost of yourself, and unfailingly supported others to attain their best. You were among the most brilliant of stars, and now the world seems dimmer. As you marched through the Sally Port into our Father’s Kingdom, we know you heard our Lord’s voice saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
The golden evening brightens in the west;
soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest;
sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
We will miss you ‘Da B’!

I really don't know where to begin...Daniel you will be truly missed! When I received the call from my mom, I couldn't believe it. It hurts my heart that a good person, doing a good thing for our country lost his life. I have known Daniel since he just a little boy. Daniel started taking karate with us at a young age and was always a very respectful, happy and well behaved boy. He was the cutest kid and grew up to be a very handsome man. Our families are close and I will miss you Daniel!

To the Hyde Family,
I am a member of the Patriot Guard Riders that was honored to accompany the return of your son to Modesto yesterday. I am one of the persons that was thanked personaly while standing in the flag line. As stated yesterday is was an honor for me to be standing there to honor Daniel, a Hero, in the hearts of all who have served in the military.
All that I have read about Daniel speaks to the type of family he was raised by. The type of son any Mother and Father would be proud of in every way.
I am greatly saddend by your loss. The world is also at a great loss.
Sincerely,
Austin Hall

To the Hyde Family,
I knew of your wonderful son Daniel, through my daughter Jessica Tillman (and friends). I remember her always speaking very highly of Daniel, and what an amazing friend he was to all who had the blessing of knowing him. He taught many lessons, and touched many lives in a very positive manner during his short time here. He will forever live in the hearts, and memories of more people than you could ever know. Thank you for raising such a beautiful soul! Your family will remain in our thoughts and prayers. With Peace, Judie Tietjen
P.S. While listnening to the song "Save us all" (by Tracy Chapman) the other day I couldn't help thinking of your family. It's a very uplifting, comforting song.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Dear Hyde Family,
We are holding you all up in prayer.
We thank you for raising such an outstanding young man. I have read all of these entries and I am amazed at all of Daniel's many accomplishments and his wonderful treatment of others.
I know that Dick Hyde, Daniel's grandfather, was very proud of him.
However, Dick never bragged about Daniel,
even though there sure was a lot to brag about! Daniel must have learned some of his humility, kindness and calmness under pressure from his grandfather!
Know that your family at Grace Lutheran wraps its arms around you in Christian love and in the sure knowledge that your Golden Boy is now in the Golden City with all the saints who from their labors rest.
May God grant you comfort.

Hyde Family:
After hearing the news about Daniel I was in complete shock. I kept asking myself why Daniel of all people. About 5 mins later i received calls from about 15 different team mates asking if the news was true. Then it all came to me. Daniel had already made a difference. He had already touched so many lives and had helped so many people. I remember being brought up on the basketball team my freshman year. This was not very easy to do, as i felt so much pressure to do well and fitting in with a bunch of older guys was not the easiest thing. But Daniel took me under his wing. Anytime i would get frustrated in practice or after a game he always had positive things to say to me. I then found myself the next couple of years trying to imulate his leadership. He was the a true leader and inspiration in my life and i will never forget him. I want to thank you for raising such a great son and man. And want to thank Daniel for all you have done for others and for myself.
Thanks Again

As part of your Grace family we watched Daniel grow to be an outstanding young man. You should feel so honored and proud of the Christian values that you instilled in him. You are exemplary parents and it is shown in his legacy and the people's lives that Daniel touched. He will never be forgotten. Rest assured you will be reunited on that glorious day that is still to come.

To a man who gave his all, so that all could give some back.
1st Lt. Hyde has done his part, now don't let HIM down.
When you read a fellow solider stating they would follow this man into combat any day, it says it all.

Dear Hyde Family,
Our son, Lt. Jim Comfort, is currently with the 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan. He was in IOBC and Ranger School with Dan, and he called us last evening, so deeply saddened by the news of Dan's death. He asked that we order memorial bracelets with Dan's name to send to him and his brother who is also deployed with the Army in Afghanistan--I am doing that today. Our hearts go out to all of you, and we pray that God will give you strength in the weeks ahead. Thank you for your son's service to his country and for the sacrifice that you and the families of all our soldiers make. Dan is a true hero to all of us.
With Deepest Sympathy,
J.D. and Julie Comfort and Children--

My deepest sympathies go out to the Hyde family and all to of those who had the honor of knowing Dan. Dan was in my IOBC class and we were in the same squad for the first phase of Ranger school. He was known by many of the Infantry Lieutenants as "Superman." Dan was always the first to lend a helping hand and the last one to take a break. It was an honor to have trained and served with Dan. Be at peace Brother.

Brian, Glenda & Andrea:
Marcia will have much better words for all of you than I; but Brian, for whatever reason, the first thing I thought of when I heard the terrible news is when, 10 or more years ago, you, Daniel and I went golfing at that little Escalon course. And of course he whipped my ____. He was a winner then, is a winner now, and is a role model for ALL of us....no matter what our ages, backgrounds, education, etc. We ALL need to reflect on Lt. Daniel Hyde, and ALL strive to emulate that great gift God had given us, albeit for a much too short of time on this earth. "Because what else do (and should) you do when Superman dies for his country!!!"

I am sorry about your loss. Daniel was a wonderful person, leader and friend. I really don't have the words to express the impact that Daniel had in my life, I just know that I am so proud of him and am lucky to have called him my friend.

Glenda, Brian and Andrea,
My heart is just breaking over the news about Daniel. What an amazing young man! Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, I remember hearing so many wonderful things about him when we were planning our 25-year reunion, Glenda. I am totally in awe of him, what he accomplished and how he touched so many people's lives in such extraordinary and profound ways. I am especially grateful to him for his selfless service to our country and his leadership. Thank you, Glenda and Brian, for giving the world Daniel. Please know that so many people have called me and asked me if I've spoken to you and they send their love. I am sending you lots of love and prayers from me, too.

The Hyde Family -
Unfortunately, I did not know your son. But, how proud of him you must be! As the mother of two sons, I can't imagine the depth of your pain, but would like to offer my deepest sympathy to you. What an honor to have parented and loved such a truly wonderful young man. He is truly a hero. I would like to offer this poem to you, hoping it will give you some peace, in this time of great pain and sorrow.
Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Dear Glenda, Brian, and Andrea,
I graduated from Downey High with Daniel in 2003. It is shocking to hear that he is no longer with us; however, he will live on in the memory of all of us who were fortunate to know him. He will be missed.
