Michael Walter Obituary

Michael Edward Walter ~ IN MEMORY ~ Friday morning, April 27th, 2007, a great light in many eyes dimmed. Michael Edward Walter was lifted from earth and taken to sit before Buddha to await his rebirth. He left behind his beloved wife, Carlinda Sylvestre; brother, Gary (Mary) Walter; his two cherished children: Rockette Heil (Rob) and Edward Walter (Sarah); as well as his much-loved stepdaughters, Liz Schunk (Bryan), Jennifer Owens, and his goddaughter Raytchell Cosentino. Also mourning him are his grandchildren, Ryan Heil, Nikki Giambattista, Trevor Schunk and Katherine Schunk, and his god-grandchild Carlie Cosentino. His best friend throughout life, Andrew Segal will forever miss his fine spirit and encyclopedic mind, as will his previous wife, Barbara Walter. A '66 graduate of Tamalpais High, Mike became a vinyl record expert, amassing over six thousand albums, a thousand 78s, numerous 45s over twenty-five years of collecting. He was a true music scholar beyond all others. Michael spent his happiest early years in Mill Valley working for some of the Bay Area's finest independent musical groups such as Clover, Morning Glory and Quicksilver Messenger Service. One of his favorite claims to fame was that he was the inspiration of Charlie Deal's toilet seat guitars, still in place in the Two A.M. Club in Mill Valley. Mike was also a founding member of the Muir Beach Volunteer Fire Department. At this year's annual picnic, May 27th, all the music will be dedicated in Mike's memory. He was THAT important to people! Look up www.muirbeachfire .com for information on attending. ALL MIKE'S OLD FRIENDS, PLEASE SHOW UP!!!!! A complete Wake will be held at Oddfellows Hall, 545 Pacific Avenue, Santa Rosa on June 2nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Please call Sam at 707-526-4633 for more information.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I knew him well when I was very young and living in the Clover house. I also bought the horse that he is with in the photo taken at Slide Ranch. I paid Mike $100 for her and she bucked like hell. Her name was Girl. My condolences to all his loved ones.

Mike first contacted me several years ago via email and shared his vast knowledge as a music expert regarding Clover. He even wrote up one of his stories for the website and stayed in touch over the years. Although I never met Mike personally I am very saddened to hear about his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Mike will be missed, and remembered.

I am greatly saddened by this news. I had spoken with Mike three months ago. Mike was a good friend and I have known him since High School. We roomed together for awhile. Mike will always be remembered by me, and my whole family, for his lending me a hand at a time when I was lost and deeply in trouble. Mike reached out to me, and literally saved my life. Thank you my old friend, I will never forget you and I will remember you with admiration and love. and Godspeed.

Mike was a good friend through high school at Tam. He could always make you laugh. He visited me here in Hawaii twice, once with Barbara and then just a few years ago right after he married again. He will be greatly missed. I send my prayers and best wishes to all of Mike's family. Rhonda
