Carrie Porter Obituary

Carrie J. Porter HOLLISTON Carrie Jean Porter, 73, of Holliston, died with her family by her side on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham, following a gallant six-year battle with cancer. Born in January 1935, in Bradford, Pa., she was the daughter of Dorothy V. Calhoun and the late Milford C. Calhoun. Carrie graduated from Union Springs Academy in Union Springs, N.Y. She was employed at Warren General Hospital and Warren State Hospital in Warren, Pa., as well as several clothing manufacturers in the Framingham area. She developed a sewing program for SMARC in Framingham and finally retired from there as an employment supervisor. For many years, sewing was one of her strong hobbies. She also enjoyed gardening and attending to her flowers and plants. She is survived by her husband, William Porter, of Holliston, whom she married on Jan. 7, 1959 in Warren, Pa.; a daughter, Lucy Marcigliano and her husband, Dominick, of Worcester; two sons, John Porter and his wife, Karen, of Northbridge, and Brian Porter and his wife, Mary, of Aurelia, Iowa; her mother, Dorothy Calhoun of Rochester, N.Y.; a sister, Florence Flores and her husband, Martin, of Rochester, N.Y.; a brother, Johnson Calhoun and his wife, Ericka, of Lawton, Okla.; and several grandchildren. In addition to her father, she is predeceased in death by her two brothers, Milford L. Calhoun, formerly of Texas and Harry Calhoun, formerly of Warren, Pa. There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held for the family following cremation.
