Ross Moir Obituary

GLOVER, Vt. Ross A. "RAM" Moir, 65, formerly of Marlborough, died Sept. 12, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Alexander and F. Catherine (Crowell) Moir. He graduated from Marlborough High School and attended Worcester Polytech, before joining the U.S. Army, in 1963. Upon his return from Germany, he lived in Sterling, where he was a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and a member of the Civil Defense team. He was employed as a senior product engineer in the abrasives department of the Norton Co., in Worcester, for 20 years. Following his retirement in 1986, he moved to Glover, Vt., to pursue his passion for collecting and restoring military vehicles. He was a well-respected military historian. His favorite pastimes were attending flea markets, auctions, working on his vehicles and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his companion and friend, Patricia Berwaldt of Chicopee; his daughter, Kimberly M. Curtin and her husband, Mark, of Worcester; his son, Dwight H. Moir of Englewood, Colo.; and several treasured grandchildren. He had been the husband of the late Audrey (Holdridge) Moir, who died in 1995. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the Slattery Funeral Home Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Rocklawn Cemetery, Stevens Street, Marlborough. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Baystate VNA & Hospice, 50 Maple St., PO Box 9058, Springfield, MA 01102.

Dear Family & Friends of Ross: Ross was a good friend during his time in Sterling. He was an active member of the fire department, ambulance, and rescue. Ross was known for his kindness, willingness to contribute and his great mechanical skills. I enjoyed his company and friendship. We will all miss him.
