Melissa Cornejo Obituary

Melissa Gail Mayfield Evans Arias Cornejo, 43, of Zirconia, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. She was a daughter of Lawrence Preston Mayfield Jr. of Lake City, Minn. and Carolyn Jean Rose Mayfield of Morganton. A native of Burke County, she lived in Henderson County for more than 20 years. She was of the Catholic faith. In addition to her parents, survivors include her loving husband of 21 years, Martin Arias Cornejo; two sons, Samuel Thomas Evans and Andrew Clate Evans, both of Morganton; a brother, Mark Steven Mayfield of Morganton; two sisters, Teresa Karen Mayfield of Morganton and Sheila Diane Strickland of Hendersonville; two grandchildren, Lacie Paige Michaels and Gavin Clate Evans; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Morganton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Martin Arias Cornejo, PO Box 373, Edneyville, NC 28727. Forest Lawn Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences at www.forestlawnhendersonville.com.

I wish to express my heartfelt sympathy in your time of great sorrow. Only those who have lost a loved one can know the depth of your feelings. I have experienced the death of my parents, a child and my grandparents. I know how difficult these times can be for those left behind.
