James McCurry Obituary

Mr. James Stanley McCurry, 73, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at his residence following a period of declining health. James was born on Feb. 24, 1936, in Rutherford County, to Clara Mae Swink McCurry and the late Fred Frank McCurry. In addition to his mother, Clara Mae Swink McCurry, he is survived by two daughters, Darlene Lee and Carol Pittman, both of Marion; two brothers, Fred Frank McCurry Jr. of Lenoir and J.P. McCurry of Connelly Springs; five sisters, Brenda M. Garner and Shirley M. Carlisle, both of Morganton, Edith M. Miller of Hickory, Betty M. Taylor of Valdese and Frankie M. Stanley of Valdese and his former wife, Dorothy McCurry, of Granite Falls; four grandchildren, Crystal Reel, Cody Horney, Dillon McCurry and Skyler McCurry; one great-grandson, Trenton Reel; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Fred Frank McCurry, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann McCurry Sain; one son, Tony Scott McCurry; one sister, Barabara Ann Smith; and two brothers, George Sam McCurry and G.W. McCurry. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese. Memorials may be sent to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690 Heritage Funeral Service & Crematory of Valdese is serving the family.
