NORMAN R. SHAFTO
AGE: 89 NEPTUNE
Norman R. Shafto, 89, of Neptune and Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away at his home in Neptune which he shared with his son and daughter-in-law, George and Candace Shafto. He was born in Bradley Beach and lived in Neptune most of his life. Norm worked for the U.S. Navy as a Leading Man-Ordinance, at N.A.D. Earle, retiring in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the Japanese invasion force when the war ended.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Felicia (Grande), in 1996. He is survived by his two daughters and a son-in-law, Norma and Howard Freemen and Joyce Shafto: his son and daughter-in-law, George and Candace Shafto; three grandchildren, Karen Freeman, Jill Simard and her husband Frederick, and Stephanie Bruther and her husband Brendan, and four great-grandchildren, Nicolas Simard, and Andrew, Erin and Megan Bruther.
Visitation will be Monday, September 7, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ, 07712. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1201 Asbury Avenue, Asbury Park, with entombment to follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Wall Township. Donations in his name to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Restoration Fund, 805 Pine Street, Asbury Park, NJ, 07712, would be greatly appreciated.
