Robert Dyer Obituary

MYRTLE BEACH | Mr. Robert ''Bob'' Braxton Dyer, 75, died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Dyer was born July 4, 1932, in Bluefield, West Virginia, a son of the late Nathan Sanders Dyer and Marcia Clark Taylor Dyer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950 until 1954. Following the military he graduated from the University of Richmond in 1958 where he was a member of Kappa Sigma.

Bob was in the automobile business for 37 years, of which 25 were in Conover, N.C., at Bob Dyer Ford. He won the ''Top Hatter'' award for being one of the top automobile salesmen in the U.S., and was a member of the 20 Club for Ford Dealers in the Charlotte, N.C. district.

He retired in 1996 and moved to Myrtle Beach. His hobbies included golf, boating, football, racing and the stock market.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Dyer of the home; two sons, Robert Dyer Jr. and wife, Ellen, and Bruce Dyer and wife, Ginger, both of Columbia; his daughter, Marcia Yocum and husband, Mike, of Spoken, Wash.; a stepson, Scott McKinney and wife, Tammy, of Richmond, Va.; a stepdaughter, Donna Shuster and husband, Patrick, of Atlanta; his brother, Dick Dyer and wife, Beth, of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and his beloved ''Duffy Dog.''

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2008 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Dr. J. Kirk Lawton officiating. A second memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008 at his home church, the Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, N.C.

His ashes will be entombed in the Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Va.

Kay, I am very sorry I did not get to see you and Bob before he passed away. I have many fond memories of Bob while he was stationed in Norfolk and while he attended the University of Richmond. I am glad he got to share so many good years with you and Duffy. I wish you the best for the future and I'm sure Bob will rest in eternal peace, he was a good man.
