Thure Stedt Obituary

Thure Ragnar Stedt, II ESCONDIDO -- Thure Ragnar Stedt II, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at home on Sunday, August 22, 2010, surrounded by his loved ones. Thure is survived by his wife, Michele Adams; sister, Marlana Barry; brother, Jan Stedt and his wife, Deborah Stedt; nephew, Eric Rice and his wife, Aimee Swanson, nephew, Brian Rice, niece, Jasmine Stedt, nephew, Forrest Stedt; and innumerable dear friends. He was predeceased by his son, Justin Stedt in 2002. Thure loved life and never surrendered in his 1-1/2 year battle with "Lou Kemia." Although "Lou" finally claimed him, Thure realized many of his own victories over the course of his illness. With humor, poignancy, and candor, he related his hopes and dreams on his blog at : web.me.com/thurestedt. Thure was born August 5, 1946, in Biddeford, Maine, moving to San Diego as a young boy. After spending four years in the Air Force, he attended San Diego State University, graduating with a BA in Comparative Literature. In 1981, he started his own land use and environmental consulting business, TRS Consultants, which has been well known and esteemed in the development community ever since. Employees consider TRS Consultants family. Thure was also a sculptor, an archer, and an avid collector. His doll, book, and music collections were sources of endless joy. He loved animals and gave a home to many otherwise homeless cats and dogs. Thure will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him; he will be sorely missed. Donations can be made in his memory to the Thure R. and Justin D. Stedt Memorial Fund, c/o Palomar College Foundation, 1140 West Mission Road, San Marcos, Calif. 92069. I just found out of Thure's passing as I am just getting on Facebook. We knew him in the early 90's when he was helping our family business in a land use issue. He became a dear friend to us during those very difficult times. Then as life goes sometimes, we lost touch. But we have never forgotten him and have the fondest memories. He was one of the first people that came to mind when I was thinking about who I would look for on Facebbook. I loved his approach to life. Aside from our business relationship, he introduced to me to different art venues and shared his philosophies with me, as well. He was a delight to be around. We miss him!

I was so sorry to discover today that my cousin had passed. I last spoke to him via internet before i broke my hip in April 2010 and have been in a nursing home ever since. I contacted him years back about our shared STEDT genealogy. I have been researching our families for years.

I knew Thure in the 60's...I loved the way he made people feel special - his eyes would always light up and he was one of the most creative people I have ever known...I wish I had stayed in touch - if I had to pick a handful of people in my life that I admired to the core, Thure was one of them. I shall see you again, dear Thure.

We sat next to each other at our reunion and had some good laughs and I thank you for that. I also thank you for your kindness to so many animals. The world needs more of you.

There can't be that many Thure Stedt's in San Diego, so this must be the same one who was in my 6th grade class at Cubberly Elementary School in Mission Village in 1960. I was first alerted to the coincidence of running across an old school mate's name when compiling the list of Veteran's names for the Unified Veterans Memorial Service back in 2002, after reading the heart-breaking obituary for his son Justin. So it was a shock to find Thure's name in the obituaries for this month's service - I thought it must have been his father, having lost my father to cancer in 2003. I just want Thure's loved ones to know that his name was read and his military service to this country was honored Saturday. May God give you strength in the face of your loss, and comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with Justin.
