Maurice Krumrey Obituary

Maurice W. Krumrey, 89 OCEANSIDE/ CARLSBAD -- Master Sgt. Maurice William Krumrey, USMC, (Ret.), husband, father, and devoted Lutheran, passed away on October 26, 2010 after a two-year battle with bone cancer. Born in Libertyville Illinois in 1920, he played on an undefeated high school football team, worked in the CCC and then joined his beloved USMC in 1940, coming to boot camp at San Diego. Sent to the East Coast to help form the 4th Marine Division, he made all four of their landings, culminating with the landing on Iwo Jima, February 19,1945. Seeing the historic flag raising on Mount Suribachi was one of the great thrills of his life. He later fought in Korea from 1952-1953, retiring from the Marines in 1964. He always said that he wanted to retire in Southern California and he did, after working for the City of Oceanside and being a Federal Firefighter on Camp Pendleton. Along the way, he married his pen pal from World War II, Theo June Armson, brother of his best friend in the Corps, killed on Saipan in 1944, who survives him, with Steven Maurice Krumrey and wife Kathy, and Ned William Krumrey and fiancee, Susan Farrell. He touched many lives along the way and now takes his place in the hall of heroes reuniting with fallen comrade, Blake Armson. Funeral will be at Redeemer by the Sea in Carlsbad on November 2 at 10 am. Burial at Eternal Hills in Oceanside at 12:30 p.m. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Maurice Krumrey was one of the kindest, gentlest men I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He was hard working and God fearing. He reminded me much of my father in nature, and the fact they were good friends for many years may have been part of the reason why. He cared deeply about this country and was a strong supporter of it in many ways. I will always have good memories of Maurice. I was tremendously blessed to have known him. He is missed.

Uncle Von will be remembered fondly by our family! He had such great stories and different experiences than we had had, that it was always interesting to talk with him. He helped our daughter with a High school project about WWII. A very giving man. We were blessed to have him in our lives. Our sincere condolences on your loss.

Though I only met Maurice about 5 years ago, it was apparent from the first that this was a special man. He was a man who loved and served his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; who loved and served his country as a Marine and as a civilian; and loved and served the people he came in contact with every day....and those he came in contact with were always left richer than before.
