Julien Renaud Hug

Julien Hug Obituary

Julien Renaud Hug, 35 RANCHO SANTA FE -- Julien Renaud Hug, well known restaurant host, was admired as a true gentleman, who treated everyone regardless of status in a kindly and respectful way, died in Riverside, California on November 1, 2010 at the tragically young age of 35. Julien, born in San Diego on February 4th, 1975, was the son of Bertrand and Denise Hug, owners of two of San Diego's premier restaurants, Mille Fleurs and Bertrand at Mr. A's. He began his restaurant career at age 14 as a dishwasher and worked his way through the ranks to become restaurant host and manager. Blessed with good looks, he was a debonair face on the San Diego restaurant scene and was picked as a contestant on the well known series, The Bachelorette. He was a graduate of Torrey Pines High School and attended Cal State San Marcos. His interests and achievements were many and varied. He was a certified skydiver with over 700 jumps, a keen motorcycle and sports car enthusiast with an encyclopedic knowledge of both. He had a love of writing and he enjoyed expressing himself through the written word. He was known for his gift of mimicry and sense of humor. He could often be found relating entertaining stories which generated laughter and mirth from family, friends and co-workers. Julien personified to many a genteel man of a bygone era; courteous, engaging and intelligent. He was gracious to all and made friends with young and old alike. He had a special talent for making people feel welcome and comfortable in his restaurants. He was active in many charitable causes in his community, most notably Kids Korps, where he was honored along with his parents in February 2009 with the National Leadership Award. He is survived by his parent, Bertrand and Denise Hug of Rancho Santa Fe; his grandfather, Alfred Hug of Figeac, France; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a dedicated son to his parents and proud of his French heritage. His kind spirit will be greatly missed by all. Memorial services will be held at The Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe on Friday, November 12th, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Julien Hug Memorial Fund, c/o the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe, Post Office Box 704, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. 92067. To Julien's Parents,

Although we've never met I have been to your restaurant several times in Rancho Santa Fe. Your son was always so welcoming. I'm the mother of three children and the thought of losing one of them is beyond anything I could
imagine. You've been in my thoughts all week and I want to extend my deepest sympathy in the loss of your beautiful son. In my heart I feel that you will be reunited with him again. He will never be forgotten to all of those who knew him and loved him. My oldest son lost his best friend to cancer in his senior year of high school at La Costa Canyon. That was over five years ago and we still love to share our stories with each other about him. He will live on in each of you. Peace be with you.

To the Hug family and friends,

God bless you all. May you find peace and comfort to help cope through the tragic loss of your son and friend. It is unbearable to lose someone you love so dearly, as I have lost my dad at 18. Let others comfort you and go on remembering all the wonderful memories you shared with Julien. Know that he is resting peacefully now.

Bertrand And Denise Hug words can't express how sorry i am that Julien is gone. He was one bright light in a sea of many. He made everyone smile by just being in the room, he brought joy, love, and pure happiness to everyone around him. There is not a single person that knew him or were his fans that could say one single bad word about Julien. He wasn't just a son but a friend ,cousin, and inspiration to everyone around him or his fans. We loved him as much if not more then you did. I am so sorry for your families loss. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to Julien and The Hug Family.

Dear Bertrand and Denise,

My heart is overflowing with grief for you both. No words can describe the pain.

My son went to Torry Pines H.S. also. He died at the age of 35 in 2007 by police bullets. He also suffered from depression among other things.

Please, please do not blame yourselves. For his sake, live on and bring joy to others. Let people comfort you. He would want that.

Kind and sensitive people sometimes die young. His soul is nonw at peace.

My son, Alan, was also a loving son, and part of me died with him

"God saw you getting tired
A cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come with Me".

With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating
Your tender hands at rest.
God took you home to prove to us
He only takes the best."
