Lee J. Streit, 88 CARDIFF BY THE SEA -- Lee J. Streit passed away Friday, September 3, 2010. He was born in Ipswich, South Dakota, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Streit. Lee enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1943 and was commissioned as a Marine Aviator. He was assigned to the Marine Bombing Squadron (VMB) 611 and saw action in Zamboanga, Mindinao Province, the Philippine Islands. He flew 42 combat missions in a PBJ-1 (B-25 Mitchell bomber). Lee earned the Distinguished Flying Cross with a Gold Star, the Air Medal with five Gold Stars, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Pacific Campaign Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was discharged from the USMC as a Captain. Lee graduated from the School of Business at USC and was a Sales Executive, retiring in 1985. Lee is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Louise Higgins; three children; and eight grandchildren.
