Dear Mrs Speake
I have just learned of Scotts death. I am truly sorry. Be comforted by the fact that I have great memories in grade school and high school. I lost contact after Carroll but recall him often. May God Bless and comfort you.

Harold, I am so glad you called me. I did not know about your son's passing or I would have contacted you. You really have a wonderful attitude and I am glad that you know the COMFORTER (Holy Spirit) The HS has a way of getting us through trying times.

Hello Mary Lou,
I tried calling several times after Jimmy Doyle told me about my dear friend Scott. He and I were always matched up in grammar school because we were the same height. I was sad to hear that Scott died and I hadn't seen him in many years. He used to come over to Gulf Shores and visit me (and my ex wife Pam) He always liked Pam better, but he has always been my dear friend. Just want you to know that I will miss him and only look forward to the great day that we will be together again. Please tell Ruthie I'd love to hear from her, and you. I'll try again in a few days. My heart goes out to you and I will remember you, Ruthie, and especially my old buddy and dear friend. I love you both, Rocky Monteleone

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Speake and Ruthie. I am so sad to hear of Scott's death. We have been friends since Birmingham in the '80s and have kept up in visits and emails. We had a great pre-Katrina visit with my husband and three kids and have talked and emailed often enough to keep up. It is impossible that I can't call him and hear him say something is 'outrageous!' I will miss him so very much.

Dear Mary Louise,
I was shocked to read of Scott's death.
Having lost Kelly I know what you are feeling.
The only thought that gave me any comfort was thanking God He had given Kelly to us for 46 years.
There will always be a hole in my heart from missing him.
You and Ruthie will be in my prayers.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Scott's death from a neighbor of his on Octavia Street. I have so many fond memories of Scott and our delightful Sundays together, playing volleyball in Audubon Park. He always had a sparkle in his eye in spite of playing the curmudgeon, and he was a fun player. He once convinced me to work at his annual volleyball tournament and I had a blast. I will always remember his humor, intelligence and positive attitude. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Speake family. I knew Ruth many years ago in Birmingham and even though the years and circumstances separated us, I still consider her a good friend.
God's peace and comfort to the Speake family and all who have been moved by Scott's passing.

Mrs. Speake,
I was blessed by all the fond memories you and Scott's friends shared at his memorial service. Even though I did not know Scott very well, when the Octavia Street neighbors had to 'pull together' in the few days after Katrina, he was right there with us. He was my co-pilot on the treck from New Orleans to Jackson, and was waiting to help us when we returned 6 weeks later.
I will let my parents, Dora and Emory Watson, know of his passing. They really enjoyed his visits when they were neighbors.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Scott's death. We had many good times going to some of the more outrageous Mardi Gras balls. I was amazed at the amount of effort he put into his costumes. Scott was a good man who left us too early in life. My condolences to his family and friends.

I first met Scott Speake in law school at a Cumberland Young Democrats meeting in 1976. He engineered my election as president of the Jefferson County Young Democrats in 1979 and has been a friend to me and my family ever since. He was a great host for New Year's eve and Mardi Gras. He introduced me to New York City at the 1980 Democratic Convention. He was a great son and brother. I will miss him terribly.

Harold, Mary Ann, Vicki and family,
I was so sorry to hear of Scott's death. I met him when you first moved back to Lawrence County so many years ago. I know it is always difficult to lose a family member, but especially a child. You have my deepest sympathy.

Ruthie: So sorry about your brother. Linda called me when she saw the notice in the T-P today. She lives in NOLA now and had no idea Scott was there. I know I haven't seen you in years but remember you both fondly.

Scott was our neighbor for 2 years on Octavia Street. I enjoyed chatting with him over a cigarette about random subjects, often political. I also remember calling him directly after Katrina hit--amazed that he had stayed behind and watched the house. My wife and I are deeply saddened by his death.

Scott was a terrific friend to me and we always enjoyed talking about politics. In fact, we met when the Young Democrats of America held their national committee meeting in New Orleans in 1984. He introduced me to the Big Easy, to the Sazerac, and taught me how to relax when I was in the South.

Scott and I have been friends since 1976, when we first met at an IBM seminar in Birmingham. Within a few years, we both moved away, but have managed to periodically have a meal together time and time again over the last 30 years. Even though we have never spent a lot of time together, I feel like I have lost one of my good friends.

Scott was the founder and originator of the Octavia Books Science Fiction Book Club. I have attended virtually every meeting of this club since he started it seven years ago. It's a source of great pleasure and enjoyment for me, and I have Scott to thank. He was a sweet man and we'll all miss him very much.
