You were so full of life,
No matter what mood,
You were carefree in all that you did
Your smile and lil laughter will never leave the streets for all to hear
Your Bud and smokes will be waiting for your return
Life loved you being a part of it,
And we loved you being a part of ours.
You could make anyone laugh,
If they were having a bad day,
No matter how sad we were,
You could take the hurt away.
Nothing could every stop you,
Or even make you fall,
You were ready to take on the world,
Ready to do it all.
But God decided he needed you,
So from this world you left,
But you took a piece of all of us,
Our hearts are what you kept.
Your seat is now empty,
And it's hard not to see your face,
But please always know this,
No one will ever take your place.
You left without a warning,
Not even saying good-bye,
And we can't seem to stop,
Asking the question why?
Nothing will ever be the same,
The streets are empty now without your ducks and skates.
But we know you're in Heaven,
Watching over us and looking after.
We didn't see this coming,
It hit us by surprise,
And when you left this world,
A small part of us died.
Your smile could brighten anyone's day,
No matter what they were going through,
And we know everyday for the rest of our lives,
We'll be missing you.

Rest In Peace Lil One

I have your poster that you signed in my den and it will remind me of our many laughs together.

Dearest Miss Ruthie!

We will miss you much but a group of us got together yesterday to make sure you are never forgotten. We have established the Sunday before your birthday (1/18, birthday on the 19th) as RuthieFest day. we are now building you a wedsite called RuthieFest.com. RuthieFest will be a time where we can all gather, wearing wedding dresses, cowboy boots, roller skates, while carrying toy ducks, to share the stories that you engraved in your hearts, celebrating your life. You are the reason many of us live in the French Quarter. We love you Ruthie and you will not leave here forgotten. Every year, the Sunday before your birthday, we will stand on Bourbon Street in front of Johnny White's and make a toast to you, Ruthie. You made the French Quarter what it is truly is, unique in every way.

went to your funeral - nice touch having the silent second line dancer. How appropriate that you had rainy "duck" weather while your funeral was going on.

What can I say? You, the bead lady & the Luck Dog vendors, and The Parade Sunday Tea dances have collectively altered my persona forever. Sorry for the time I slid down the stairs of the Parade and knocked you down and ontop of your flock!

Ruthie, you were so special! I hope you don't mind but I have borrowed so many of your phrases and use them almost daily. Hope I will be able to contribute to a memorial that would be placed in the Quarter. You do deserve that much at least.

Ms. Ruthie - You will be dearly missed. You are such a New Orleans Heritage. I remember you in my younger days in an about the quarter. I had always heard of you but only until I saw you and met you did I see the wonderful, youthful, and wisdom behind the Legacy. You will be greatly missed here, but your legend will remain.

Dear Ruthie,
I never knew you, I never talked to you, but I do remember stories of this tiny little lady being followed by ducks. Thank you for being such a survivor. Thank you for showing all of us that you can make it in this world, if you just relax and live life. You will be missed. You are a French Quarter icon. To your family and friends, she lived her life on her own terms, the best way she knew how. May you always remember her as the sweet soul she was. Bye Ruthie, New Orleans will miss you.

Oh Ruthie, I mourn the loss of you. While you never knew my name, I, like many others knew of you, spoke to you, marveled at your roller skating and gave a smoke when you asked. Thanks for the being yourself and for giving our city the story of You. It was a great story and your legend will live on for many a time. Rest in peace, Ruthie Girl, and enjoy the love of God.

I will sadly miss my "Duck Lady" Ruthie. As she rolled down Bourbon street, drink in hand, ducks in tow, veil flowing with the wind, oh what a "only in New Orleans " site. Those were the days!

Ruthie was an original New Orleans character. No trip into the French Quarter was complete until Ruthie passed by on skates followed by her ducks in a line. Locals loved her and tourists went back to their homes talking about an unusual and kind gentle person they had seen.

Is there anything better than to be remembered as a kind and gentle person who contributed to the ambiance of New Orleans and what makes it a special place?
