I REMEMBER MEETING MR. PARKER AT THE BOOKSELLERS CONVENTION. HE WAS STANDING OFF IN A CORNER DRINKING A BEER. WE ASK HIM WHY HE WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE CELEBRATION THAT THE YOUNG LADY NOVELIST THAT WAS PAIRED WITH HIM, WAS. HE SAID THAT IT WAS HER FIRST NOVEL, AND HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE AWAY ANY OF HER LIMELIGHT. WHAT A 'GENTLEMAN'. SINCE I AM SURE THAT SUSAN WAS REALLY YOU,JOAN, IT MUST BE A TERRIBLE LOSS. I AM SO SORRY. PAM

As a young man, Mr. Parker's words brought me from ignorance of literature with his novels. His stories led me to explore other writer including Hammett, Chandler and the like, then to leave my boring occupation to purse an education. I left the Midwest and went to Lowell, Massachusetts where Parker had actually taught early in his academic career. I have met the man a few times and even been graced to correspond with him a few times. I have since met other authors as a result of the interest Mr. Parker stirred in me, and have actually written some myself. I can never repay the debt this fine gentleman writer has given me. I wish the best for his wife Joan, and his sons David and Daniel. God Speed, Mr. Parker.

For Robert...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I secretly surmised that Robert Parker was Spenser. I am in love with him and his dedication to his wife, Joan, made me love him more. It was a delicious treat to obtain a new Spenser or Jesse Stone or Sunny Randall book. No fillers here, just pure characterization and action. I am so sad that this wonderfully gifted writer had to go so soon. I will keep his books and continue to re-read each one. Spenser,aka Robert Parker, was the kind of man we all look for and hope to romantically capture. Godspeed, Spenser.

I loved this man. I think he was probably just as humorous as the characters in his books. God bless him for many years of enjoyment. His fans will miss him terribly.

Thank You Mr. Parker, sir for inspiring me to spend most of my spare time, during the day, as a RIDE driver, reading. You and your books will be sadly missed. Who will I read from now?
