STRONG--Robert Livingston, of Westwood, Massachusetts, died on October 5, 2007. Born on June 2, 1914 to Theodore Strong and Cornelia Livingston Van Rensselaer Strong, of New Brunswick, New Jersey, he attended Rutgers Preparatory School and received his A.B. from Rutgers College in 1936. After graduating from Columbia Law School he served in the Judge Advocate General Corps in World War II, and was recalled to that service in the Korean War. For most of his professional career he practiced trust and estate law for the First National City Bank of New York. For a decade after retiring from Citibank he was Executive Director of the Cleveland H. Dodge Foundation, of New York City. His public service was long and dedicated. Mr. Strong served for many years as Treasurer of Lighthouse International, as President of the Charlotte Palmer Phillips Foundation, and as founding President of the Summit (New Jersey) Area Public Foundation. Mr. Strong married Mary Johnston Sutherland, of Atlanta, Georgia, in 1947. Their devoted marriage of 59 years ended only with her death in February, 2006. Mr. Strong is survived by his son, William S. Strong, and grandchildren Mary and Robert, all of Lexington, Massachusetts. A service will be held on Saturday, October 20th, at the Second Reformed Church in New Brunswick, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memoriam to Lighthouse International, www.lighthouse.org, would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Strong was a very nice man. He always seemed happy to see me when I visited him. To his family, my father and Mr. Strong became friends when they were at the Clark House. Even when my father was moved to Natick, they kept in touch. He will be missed. He and my father would always laugh and joke with each other at lunch and any time we visited.

Mr. Strong,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army in WW II and the Korean War and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
